helia, this is one reason emailing isn't the best communication. E-mails always seem to suggest fast reading. But if read with just a different inflection, someone could misunderstand intent. And if not re-read carefully, then that impression lingers. ((hugs)) Good gravy, you're just trying to send her presents!

Kathryn, I'm so sorry dd and dsonil are having to put up with all this inconvenience, plus dealing with the icky feelings of dismay.

Dstepson has been here working on outdoor projects with HRH and brought dstepgd. So I took the two girls to McDonalds for a mini-girl's-time. Bringing the two men back McRibs was a huge hit. Nice to find the dollar-for-the-2nd-one special on those.

Earlier, dd and I changed out the two hanging full size quilts to Christmasy ones and I changed the two hanging small quilts as well. I decorated the cabinet in the dining area. Two more boxes of Christmas storage put back away now. Very close to gift-wrapping time.

As I think of lucylee my thoughts also go to Cowinkie, who must be pensive about this as she considers student vulnerability. I also think of my middle boy-cousin's wife, who has retired as an elementary school secretary and must be going over this in her mind. My oldest girl cousin is an elementary school librarian in a school just getting over a (parental) child-abduction case, so this must hit so close to home.

We use a water spray for Tobias sometimes, Ivy. I seldom need it. His relationship with me is different - I will cut off his food supply in a minute, even taking it straight out of a more tenderhearted family member's hand to deny him, and that amazes him, so I am rarely disobeyed. Dd14 and HRH need the spray. In his office, HRH will use the computer air spray thingie, which gets Tobias' attention FAST.
If you don't believe in miracles, you're not being realistic.

Went to the cookbook signing, saw dfriend who used to teach with us, sampled some delicious cake and hot cider, came home and started grading papers.
Couldn't get through the first one without falling asleep.
Took a nap.

Well. That sums up my accomplishments for the day.

Going back to the papers now... and will TRY to stay awake.

Hope dh will go to town & get his dmom's mail (she called earlier) but he may ask me to do it while he is in the shower.

Wishes...
Oh, my constant wish & prayer is for good health for myself and all my family...
for financial security, college & carreer success for ds & ddil... (He is a college graduate but she is not, yet.)
for happiness & peace w/my decision to retire...
to get through this school year w/out losing my mind!
and ... a self-cleaning house would be nice... along w/a 40 pound weight loss... and hair that would never turn gray.
Tomorrow is another day.

Waving from Sunday across that other wide pond.

My wish is for an end to senseless violence.
Wish for better health for a friend who is off the rails but not so far to get compulsory help. (yesterday I talked to a mutual friend who was amazed I think with 1st ones lack of insight. And a serious lack of anything anyone else could do. I think she was glad I had suggested letting her stay in her home was not a good idea.)
My wish for today. for me
not to just sit here in heat, but seek somewhere the air flows a little cooler. With agreeable activity that gets me somewhere.

this morning I went to church/mass. talked later to an old friend and her friend. I wonder if I was the deafest there as I could only catch occassional words to make sence of the conversation.
This afternoon is sunday at another friend in need - though the few of us who go all find it helpful.
I have 5 free hours next up to do whatever.

Also done this am - pulled a few weeds and grass tufts that ddogs running clead would catch around and bring him to a halt. At some stage I need ask neighbour's teen to mow for me.

fans a running here though it is only 30c 88f inside. Outside in the shade is cooler.

Kathryn - ss for dd's burglary. I had one of those too - though thankfully we were out - And they managed to find a purse in bottom of my underwear drawer - empty - it was a spare. Just took cash no cards so that was one thing. Another time had a purse stolen on a group weekend. so disappointing. and purse was found in the grounds after I had ordered all the replacements, after I had proved who I was to begin the chain..

Ivy - I've had luck with sprinkled pepper on surfaces to convince mice my place isn't where they want to be. That might be a bit radical for end tables and your dear kitty.
Just begin.
Living this day, today
Take a reality check; Remember to breathe; Do what I am able to do.
Look for the good in all.

I'm calling this speedy Saturday because it sped by!
I got the rest of the stuff of the most urgent any way done before we left this morning to take dgd to her bb tournament, then brunch w/ h.
Chicken news;
I got the chickens and we did a few minor modifications on the play house and got the new hens introduced to their flock mates. Boy did that ever make the roos start crowing like they have not done before! We got the nest box ledges on them so eggs will not roll out I put the straw in them, and we cut open the opening a chicken door to the pen.

[Then it was time to go pick up dgd #1 who's 13 and see her last game and took her home.]

Then we put up a  light  up for the chickens hoping to get some eggs now! These are my Christmas present to myself. A light bhrama different than I expected and is a sitter and has raised chicks before so very excited to have an experienced one. The other is a black Austerlop sp? and Americana [the ones that lay the green eggs] and a barred rock to replace the one we lost to old age.

Learned about COB = corn oats & barley $14.95 a bag what I've been feeding is less but it's always good to know of new stuff to feed 'em.

I love seeing the chickens outside after dark it reminds me of a manger! We drove by a place that had a light set up and h. came home and put ours up as I had the stuff for it already here. I'm thinking we might need to put it in the coop instead of the run. But will try this for now and maybe if we get a cold snap keep that in mind.

Did not get the packages off today sigh oh well.

Posting without cuop. Apologies if I'm missing something important here.

Just wanted to say hello. I miss coming here but there just is no time. I am running from one thing to the next, and sewing my fingers off. Thursday was an evening at church helping with the women's prayer meeting, and the youth group comes tomorrow night also. I am barely keeping up, but I have a plan and it should all work out in the end if I just keep moving.

Yesterday DH pulled a muscle in his back or something popped out of place...and it was very painful, so he needed a bunch of help. Thankfully, he said he could hear something "popping" in his back this morning and he is getting better. He hung upside down on our inversion table. So, he was up and around today and that was good.

I got some groceries today and a gift for a family; our committee is getting gifts for their 3 kids as they weren't going to have a Christmas this year. 2 little girls were easy to buy for so some picked them, the 17-yr-old boy was a puzzle, so I offered to get something for him. Not knowing him or sizes or hobbies, I went to the local theater and bought a gift card enough to cover a show and popcorn. Teenagers love to go to movies together.

I'm going to read back a bit, then get back to my sewing.

Small group has met and gone home. :) It is always good to meet with friends this way, interacting at a deeper level. NOw we have a cleaner house and a lot of leftover lentils. :)

Thank you for your comments, Harriet. That is very true. The phone is better than email; face-to-face is the best, imho, though not always possible. In fact, dh tells me never to email much to dmom b/c of the history of this sort of problem. The funny thing was, I had called her this morning and the plan of action had been decided on peacefully and pleasantly at the time. She didn't even need to send that email. This made it feel more like an intentional zinger. Of course, maybe I am misinterpreting her email too. . . . I'm not going to respond. it will probably all be forgotten by the time they get back from their travels. :)

I may go to the mall to look for that blouse for dd14. Dh might join me. What an odd date! We are not mall people; I bet dh hasn't set foot in the mall here for. . . .several years.

Lynlee, The mice aren't on the end tables. They're stuck inside the tub under where the pipes are. One occasionally comes through under the sink, kitty plays with it, DH puts on gloves and puts it outdoors. I don't think pepper on my end tables will work. :(

Harriet, Water spray might work. But she LOVES water, so I don't know if that would phase her. It's an idea though. Maybe go the route of a squirt gun? ;)

Helia, It's my experience that emails, letters, and phone calls don't always work for the best communication, like face-t0-face does. But if you're in different locations, face-to-face won't work, but a phone call might.

I didn't know there was a computer air spray thingie. :?:

Kathryn, I hope your DD and Dsonil can get over the violation feelings soon. It's such an inconvenience to have to stop cards and replace them, too.

Yes, something like this would affect teachers, too, so sending some good thoughts and positive energy to Lucylee and Cowinkie, too.

DH turned on the Animal Planet, then watched boxing on another channel, while I read on my Nook and then a letter came, for me to read. I sat down with 4 magazines, reading through them, cutting out coupons, comics, recipes and things for pen pals, to brighten up their day when I write them. They're called "Envy Stuffers". Stuff you stuff into envelopes. We watched some news and DH is back on the Animal Planet Channel again. It helps to get a break from it and think of others or be entertained with kitties and doggies on TV.

Blessed, Your day sounded really nice! :D

Nancy, It's great you learned about COB! :D

We're going to have a shrimp-Asian noodles-veggies stir-fry for dinner. :) :) I think I'll work on some snail mail this evening and do the doggie crochet tomorrow instead. I need to sort through patterns, too, but just feel like keeping in touch with my pen pals tonight for some reason. They're great gals. :D

TTFN! ;)

Just as I was getting up from my nap, dd texted me, asking for a phone call as long as we didn't talk about the break-in.

So I got the phone, called, and then tried to get dinner ready to take to the pot luck while chatting with her. She was on with me for 30 minutes, then her brother and finally her dad. We were 30 minutes late getting to the party but weren't the last there.

Had a great time at the party.

Have cleaned up the kitchen, practiced the reading with dh playing the tambourine (we recorded it so we could better hear how it sounded) and will practice the anthem one more time before heading to bed.
