Finally Friday

Post by scattered »

It is Friday and I wish I was looking forward to a quiet weekend at home but alas that is not to be. I have reserves out of town this weekend and I am taking DS14 to stay with his DGma.

Last night I was able to come home before school and pack my bag before I had to go to class, so tonight when I get off work I will just have to swing by and pick-up DS14. I also packed my lunch, and filled my pill keeper, so those are good to go. Now I just need to go put on my make-up, fill my coffee cups, take my vitamins, and get out the door.

I have to leave a little early this morning because I left my clipboard at the downtown office. :?

? cooking question time??? Yesterday was my first time making fried chicken... how do you get the inside temp to cook - I followed the recipe for 375 degree oil...then keep it at 330 to 340 degrees, inside chicken continued to register lower than safe. I put it in the oven and it brought the temp to 165 deg. for safety. what did I do wrong.

also my house smells like a deep fryer - so any suggestions would be helpful

Good Morning, Everyone, and to those who come later.

It's 32* here at 7 a.m. We're up early today. DH fixed the fire and the furnace runs when the house is at 68*. So it's cozy.

Our baby granddaughter, Megan Marie, was born the 8th at 8 a.m. via C-Section. She just kept her mommy going into labor so much with contractions 1 min. apart for a couple of weeks. Different meds were used and finally magnesium. but Megan didn't seem to care, so she wanted to be born. She's a 2-month preemie, is all filled out, no ribs showing, and has brown hair and is cute, too. I've been MIA because I've been crocheting a cocoon-hat-booties set, a "going home" outfit and other extras, too. :)

She was born 1 week before my 61st b-day, so she's almost like my pre-b-day gift. ;)

The roads are super icy here, a lot of schools are running 2 hours late. Some places have freezing fog, but we have just freezing temps here and it's clear.

Have a great TGIF and Conga, Everybody! :D

Good morning sorry blessed I have no idea on how to fry chicken you might try a web search. Ivy Way to go on the new gbaby!

Skippable/Vent warning/
Got a text nagging me to call mom on her bday sat. every time I get a text or photo from family or who ever when the bill comes I hear about it from h. b/c we do get charged so let sis know. Sigh I've already sent a gift card and long hand letter to dmom & called her you think she know's I've remembered and done some thing. Don't know why but it really set me off getting nagged via text message no less.

Two of the chickens slept outside on the roost last night so I left the chicken's door open but closed the door to the run. H. turned on the light for them so I was able to sleep in yea!

Today I got up to see a skiff of snow on the ground. My B.S. was excellent best it's been in a while. Hearing about the flu epidemic in the news makes me glad I got the flu shot and it's already made the rounds through the family and we are over it but it took a while. Considering skipping the pot luck at church this weekend.

27* lite snow out today 32* is the forecast hi.
I need a meal plan for dinner.
I've had breakfast.
It's light out so I should get busy and do something.

I vacuumed last night.
Kitchen could use some help.
Dining room as well.
Colorist apt. maybe.

Good morning, villagers ~

Blessedw2 ~ Sorry, I cannot help you as I don't care for fried chicken so don't cook it. DH buys it for himself at the WM deli on my sewing group nights when I have to eat my supper and leave before he gets home from work.
For the aroma, if you don't have a vent for the stove, maybe burn an unscented candle?

Okay ~ Did you stick with the noodles for N or switch to something else for Show & Tell?

CI: Adventures with Plumbing -- or actually, Adventures withOUT Plumbing
Message yesterday from the hardware store that the faucet insert we need for the shower is no longer being manufactured. They can get us a substitution but they need to see the part again. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it disassembled and DH couldn't get home to do it before the store closed.

I told DH that if we spent the evening collecting water to fill all the containers I could find, then he could turn off the water and pull the thing apart at bedtime and I would go to the hardware store while he's at work today. I thought I had a brilliant idea when I remembered our big water jug for camping; we didn't know it had cracked, so that made a big mess. There's a motley collection of buckets & bins in the bathroom for flushing the toilet, and the kitchen counter is full of pitchers and bottles for drinking water for myself and the cats. Also a thermos of hot water so I can wash my face.

I'm in Pollyanna mode, though -- grateful that I'm in a warm house with electricity, and at least I don't have to haul all of the water from a well miles from home the way many people in the world have to do.

I'm waiting for heavy fog to lift before I hit the road for errands. We don't need many groceries today, I'm trying to use up what's in the cupboards before restocking. We have plenty of hand sanitizer but some fresh baby wipes would come in handy.

Oh how I hope the hardware store has what we need in stock. I would love for DH to finally have a stress-free weekend. Feels like it's been one thing after another since before Christmas!

congratulations on your new grandbaby d ivy

I love pollyanna way of thinking

I don't care for fried chicken either but I wanted to say I made it well once in my life lol dd's loved it but I know I did something wrong that the internal temp didn't go up to cooked level and that's why I put it in the oven.

blessed, can't answer the questions about the chicken either. If I make a batch, I sorta brown it in a pan with olive oil and then bake in the oven. Last night I made 2 boneless chicken breasts and cooked it through in the frypan without the oven part. As long as it isn't pink inside and the juices run clear I feel it's safe. I've never checked a temperature on it! Maybe you just didn't cook it long enough? For the smell, open a window for a bit.

I've done the last of my tax work. My last year's life is all in one redrope folder, copied, stapled, organized, filed. Sheesh!

Need to get to the bank and I need to do some cleaning around here. First, I'm going to tackle some work with my camera!

Hello all! I am just getting here - which is a good sign. That means I've been busy all morning. I'm taking a lunch break now.

Yes, I'm also curious which "N" word LO took for show 'n tell, OK.

Ooh, new babies - the best news in the world! :) Congratulations OK for new dbaby grandnephew! Congratulations Ivy for new dgbaby girl! -- Does she have any complications from being so preemie? How big is she?

I'm sorry I can't help you either, blessed. I don't typically make fried chicken. I think I may have made it once while dh was out of town, and I do remember having a hard time getting it fully cooked inside. We eat a lot of chicken, but I usually use boneless skinless chicken breasts. --I actually prefer dark meat, but dh prefers white.

We are curently at 46*. It was raining hard first thing this morning; there is so much humidity in the air from the rain and the evaporating snow that there is now mist in spots.

So, my morning:
-up to say good bye to the girls
-I was so tired this a.m. that I lay back down for 40 minutes; I have not been getting enough sleep each night and it is catching up with me. However, I didn't sleep well once I lay back down - I just don't do well sleeping once awake.
-s2s, teeth care, tea; finalized groc. list
-a couple emails sent out
-out the door at 9:15
-WW; down 1.8 lbs. even though I ate out 5 times in the last week (all sociallly geared - except for our traditional family outings Friday night and Sunday lunch). I wasn't particularly tracking, but I was trying to be conscious of my snacking habits, esp. in the evenings.
-specialty pet store to get the hay for the g. pigs. Got 2 bags.
-groc. store - everything put away
-lunch: may still be in progress. I just ate a 5 point vit ali cious pizza and am contemplating some yogurt, but may opt for more fruit.

It feels good to have errands done before noon.

This afternoon - things I'd like to do:
-finish a.m. routine; wash a load of towels
-finish going through the photos on the extra laptop
-finish going through the piles of my letters on the desk
-exercise - not sure whether outside or not. If it doesn't rain, outside might be a good choice. It is certainly warm enough for that.
-meet dh for coffee/tea? He had mentioned wanting to do this
-progress on Hebrew would be very helpful - but I'm not hopeful it will happen
-pick up dd14 from synchro. at 5:10; they're practicing earlier today b/c the boy swimmers usurped their practice time - or something like that. We all like this better; dd14 is done earlier and I only have to make one trip to the school.

This evening: I'd like to go to a meeting 7-9 at a church (not ours). This is a group of women who get together quarterly to discuss a book, hear a lecture, and decide which women in 3rd world countries to support with the $$ they had previously pledged. One dfriend from book club (and moms group) is very active in this group - and this is the church she attends. Same with another mom in my moms group small group. I guess the women of this church started this group after reading Half the Sky? - or some such book about the plight of women in underdeveloped countries.
