blessed, I once had a visiting girl tell me "let's not" about a movie because she didn't want to give up the time while she could visit here with dd. She said that in the theater, "We wouldn't even see each other's faces for a couple hours!" Also, at your dd's age, the friend probably considers her the hostess, not you, so is not assuming a lot of money for outings would be available.
lucylee, think to yourself at least you are not flat on your back in the hospital with kidney stones. That is the story from dd's teacher today, who's been weak, sick and unable to complete a full day all week during exam week so far, with possible snow day tomorrow. (Snow day - what a joke, huh? The phrase should be slippery-ice-slick day.)
I think dd is pulling a rabbit out of her hat today at school. Email that she finagled extra computer time after 2 exams (sub had said they were too tired and to rest) and completed her engineering folder in case of no school tomorrow. whew. I'm thinking there were aspects of all this work that could have been done weeks ago, before the only instructor she had to teach her was a substitute. She is probably learning life lessons fast.

Definitely agree w/other comments, blessed. Girls this age generally can entertain themselves, anyway. If your dd needs some suggestions, she'll let you know, but there is no need for you to feel like you have suddenly been appointed activity director for the queen of England or something.
When we have visited friends/family in other towns, we have always let them know if there was something particular that we wanted to do. Otherwise, we were just happy to chill out and enjoy relaxing and spending time with them.
Yes -- I'm home again!!! School was only from 10-12:30 today -- or more like 9:30-1:00 -- but it was a great relief.
And I did get to skip the crazy class, Harriet! All my classes are M-F, but since we've been going in late, we've been rotating the classes we miss.
Talked to ddad... who will be hospitalized a full month, apparently... and some of it in "Isolation" where he can only talk to visitors via phone, through a glass window. Just like prison. * sheesh *
Still don't know what sort of decisions dmom will make... what sort of time we will need to spend there... just lots of questions questions questions...
And lots to do do do ASAP re: dmom's tax stuff, etc.
Slippery - ice - slick day... that's the truth, Harriet! I'll take what I can get.
And I definitely glad I do not have kidney stones! Ooohhh... dfriend was having surgery for that this morning.

Re: Thorough Thursday
Paid bills and have entered the chits into Quicken. That took me two episodes of Big Bang Theory.
I'm defrosting some dinner for me now. We are off to a friend's house to check out his new tablet computer and then to pick up dh's dinner.

Oh, that reminds me, a few days ago BBTheory was in the news again, with a 3rd win of the same People's Choice award category.
I'm happy for them. Now, if I could just convince them all to embrace Sheldon's views on drinking and sex, and convince Sheldon ... of anything.
Kathryn, did you ever get to see them in the desert? I told myself "spoiler alert" and did not post a word when I saw you'd missed part of it.
Picked dd up at school and went directly to the grocery. If indeed all travel is done by slide for a while, we will at least have something to eat. Ds27 had called me to tell me to check my email (for dd) and was going to call back when he got a chance, but I could hear the very busy station in the background (or maybe he was on a call) and I wonder how bad his 24-shift is going to be. Haven't heard from him yet....
HRH was chatting with some online friends in southern Mississippi who have never seen snow there until today.
We will put the food and water inside with the chickens tonight. We may not be able to open their door in the morning, depending upon how much ice we have. And even if we could, it might not be good for them.
Was this a surprise? Uh, no. The Big Bang Theory won Favourite Network Comedy, making this their third win overall in the category. Star Simon Helberg eloquently thanked the fans for their support, and certainly the show's fan base is incredibly powerful and supportive. Bazinga indeed! - Sean Plummer, Entertainment MSN

Re: Thorough Thursday
Harriet my chickens have been out in the ice & snow and eating it!
I was surprised how well they adapted after the first day when it stopped snowing!
Sun is out and it's melting but not fast enough for me. I left the car out so it would melt off faster. Took some time to get it warmed up and the windows to thaw & clear enough from the frost the carport works great here but @ dd's only one rig will fit in their garage.

Re: Thorough Thursday
I've put the weather station on the tv to see what's going on. We were cooler today also, and about 3 the clouds rolled in and it's been grey ever since. It sprinkled a bit. Certainly not what you guys are experiencing, but different for us. I hope this doesn't ruin Twins time in our state.
I just came out of the bedroom for a break. Oh my goodness! I am stiff all over, my back, my legs, my feet all hurt. But I am done in the closet. I have tried on every piece of clothes in there except the ones I've worn in the past several weeks. I have 19 items folded up neatly in a big box for G-W. Probably a dozen things have been tossed. I have one regular size suitcase full of nice things to keep for if I ever get back to that size.
Everything's hung on the nicest hangars, dresses with plastic shoulder covers. Christmas clothes are zipped up in the garment bag for the year. And I went through the last couple boxes, put stuff in plastic bags and tossed a bunch of stuff.
I still have the dresser to do. But I must stop to do dishes, the rest of the house is getting away from me. Ah, will I ever get caught up?

Re: Thorough Thursday
Yes, Harriet, I saw that episode and one prior to it this afternoon. My favourite part was the girls arguing over the Hammer of Thor. Oh, and giving Penny a head start on the reading!
The visit with our friend wasn't that constructive. Once glance at the tablet told me that it wasn't enough different in size from my laptop to consider it. It is the size of a netbook but I prefer the full functionality of my laptop, at least for now.
The visit ran 40 minutes over and only ended because I put an end to it (they are going out tonight too.) Because we were so late, I had dh drop me at home first and then head for his dinner. I made up mine and have eaten. He'll have to eat on his own when he gets home.
I have prep to do for the meeting tonight. I thought I was all ready but then a phone call came to our friend (she is also on the church board) bringing up issues I'll have to deal with tonight.

Re: Thorough Thursday
Harriet- It depends on the day, Tuesday I logged 200 miles, but yesterday it was only 50, and none today. It also tends to depend on which office, the downtown office has a smaller area so less miles, yet the same number if not more clients.
YEAH!!! Class was cancelled!
they cancelled evening classes at 11:15 am... snow did not start flying until 6:30.
I grew up in Alaska and Colorado... they never cancelled classes and only once did they start classes late. So this whole thing with cancelling class due to a forecast is just weird.
I am still exhausted, considering going to bed early again tonight, just one more day of work and then it is a 3 day weekend!

Re: Thorough Thursday
Good Evening, Villagers!
My Ta Da:
s2s, shampoo, dress
MT DW
Wrote 4 letters
Did back mat exercises with my kitty cat! She blew in my ear, too!
Did prayers, journal writing, read obits, emails, etc....
Sorted the mail and read mine.
Sorted laundry, 2 loads are drying/washing and #3 will be the last.
Set dawn simulator, got out a.m. clothes
Worked on my calendar remeinders.
My To Do tonight:
Read
Floss
Wash face, add face cream
Journal
Write my a.m. to do list out.
It's been foggy since morning, it's terribly foggy now, at 6:40 p.m. and there is 0.0 visibility here, too!
We might have freezing fog in the morning again, too.
We're having buttermilk pancakes for dinner, a fried egg apiece and Canadian bacon. Yummy!
I hope everybody has a good sleep! I think I'll sleep well because with DH up and down all night, waking me up, means I'm so tired that I'm BOUND to sleep well! Poor guy just gets stressed before he goes to the doctor. Gets up and down. Me?
I binge and eat everything in the house before I go to the doctor!
So I guess we all have our ways of dealing with that time before we see a doctor. Why is it stressful?
Take care, Everybody and have a wonderful night, too!

Re: Thorough Thursday
We lived in NW Colorado for 3 years and they never cancelled school. Boots and snowpants or snowsuit were on the list of school supplies each year. Dd1 wore her boots to school each day and took her shoes in her backpack. They had the kids play outside if the sun was shining, unless it was extremely cold.
Tonight dd2s shop closed at 6:00 for a private party for the young business professionals club. The boys had their 1st basketball practice. I offered to watch the 2 little girls so that she could go down to the shop for the start of the party. She had 2 workers scheduled. She called at 7:20 and said that they were so busy that she couldn't leave. Her dh was on his way to town to pick up the girls and her ex would bring the boys after practice, so her dh could take the 4 kids home. I had not seen dgd21mos since Sunday, Dec. 30. That is when I watched the 4 of them at their house while dd2 was at the hospital with dgd16. When she came home, I practically ran out of there. Then I went to the movie with dd2, the 2 boys and dgd3 on New Years Day. I have seen dd2 and the boys since then but not the little girls. I have never went that long without seeing them. With the snow and cold, I haven't left home any more than I have had to and dgd16 has gotten better about watching 2-4 of them for an hour or so, so that they didn't have to be drug out into the cold. Dgd3 told me that she had really missed me and loved me so much. I feel the same way. Dgd21mos has finally started talking more. Tomorrow night dd2 and her dh are going to a benefit dinner. I offered to watch the 2 little girls. They are so good by themselves but if the boys are around they act as wild as the boys.
Today the temps were in the 50's. When dh got home, he decided to get the tile unloaded so he can pick up sheetrock and I think it's called concrete board tomorrow after work. I didn't realize just how heavy that tile is. Tomorrow I need to get out early to get groceries and run errands. I am going to Home Depot and take a small piece of my Pfaltzgraff with me. I want to coordinate with it for my bathroom. I have a toothbrush holder, soapdishes and other pieces to use in there. I have decided that I either need to go simple on the tile and all out for the 8 ft. vanity top or else a simple vanity top and all out on the tile and paint color. Dh thinks we could find a way to do both, so we will see.
I need to be in bed at 10 again. I am just wore out and haven't done that much.
Better get the dishwasher loaded and the rest of the things handwashed...............
