I am adding a new quote at the bottom of my postings in honor of the first peregrine egg of the season laid on top of San Jose City Hall yesterday. Mama Clara and Papa Fernando are doing great. I love this time of year when all the new life begins. I have watched this process in San Jose for
7 years now and have made some new friends also.
This coming Friday night we get to meet a very special person in Cowinkie's world. (That is if Sweetie's cold is gone!)
The house we rent here in AZ has been sold. Next year we will be in a different house, same park. We have been in this place for 3 years and I will be sad to leave it. The owners have been great friends for these 3 years and will remain so. Our Monday Lunch Bunch will not disband.

p.m. routine last night helped our morning go smoother.
Baby Chicks are fine. We got 10 [not 12] I miss typed yesterday RIR Rhode Island red, I'm sort of wishing I would have gotten 2 more. Not sure if we will have room. Chicks are easier than I thought they would be at this point any way. Looks like a couple are roosters. H. & I have diff. ideas of how many to winter over and how the replacement rotation works. Oh well one or two can be from the neighbor's move and we get those I suppose. Except they are older than we would keep. Speaking of hens ours have been fed. My granny used to have them and I remember he feeding them a half of coffee can of grain each afternoon before gathering eggs. My other granny had them when she was a girl as well and when we were kids that's the kind we had. The are both heat and cold tolerant & lay brown eggs win win with them I hope!
I brought in leaves to use for bedding will get the larger tote set up with dgd when she gets here in a while.
I need to sweep the steps to the basement today I noticed that is due.
I have a meal and menu idea to dinner chicken breasts, green beans, corn bread muffins, dgd can help mix those up & we will bake them this afternoon.
I've done 5 mi. on the ex. bike today. More to come later on.
Nancy, Clara and Fernando are Peregrines. Clara the falcon and Fernando the tiercel. Fernando is Clara's 4th mate. She has had over 20 little peregrines and some still are in the Bay Area. They are tracked by volunteers and we know where most of them are. It has been a fun diversion for me all these years. There is a nest box camera to watch and we usually try to get down to SJ once during the season.

Popping by to catch up here. Yesterday was a bunch of trips out for various stuff; got groceries, went to library, picked up Rx. DH was gone most of the day so I got my Bible Studies all caught up because the house was wonderfully quiet.
Today's list seems to grow every minute. I was up early and got chilli going in the crock pot after pre browning and warming. Smelling good in here. I won't be able to eat much of that though with my stomach. I do wait till I serve to put the spices in DH's bowl only.
Proposal typed and emailed off.
Calls to county office made, waiting for a call-back.
I need to pay bills, do filing, start a spreadsheet. The filing is extensive, will take a while. I need to start getting 2012 out of the file cabinets.
Phone calls to make now.
Today is still chilly, but it's warming up around here. We cleaned out the fireplace yesterday and sifted out the clinkers and added that to the garden. I hope it helps. Fog has burned off, it was thick this morning.
I hope LO is feeling better. Wow, now you have to factor in his imagination when you monitor his health! Suppose he just really wanted to come home from school and be with you?
Good morning! I stayed up too late last night watching trailers for movies I might like to watch -- or might not in some cases. I got the garbage and recycling to the curb very late - but before heading to bed. SO, I am having a late start today. But not as late as the girls who are just now appearing. At least dd14 is up. I know dd14 has been tired lately,at least partially due to synchro practices every day this week. We all seem to be over our colds from last week, though!
No scheduled appts. today for a change!! --Except for the synchro runs. There are some other errands I'd like to run. I may take dd14 in for her x ray today, checking her scoliosis.
That is SO neat about the peregrine falcons nesting on city hall, Norma. Also neat to hear of the people who enjoy watching them!!

I need to be humming along like Harriet, so off I go. . . . hhhmmmmmmm.......
I've spent the morning in the kitchen cooking/baking. The dishes required lots of prep time to chop/dice multiple vegetables
** Salsa
** Fruit cake
** pot of beans
** pot of beef & veg soup
Baking mystery (to me). I usually bake the fruit cake in a heavy bundt pan. After taking the cake out of the oven I turn the bundt pan over and put it on a bottle to cool. Usually the cake hangs upside down without any problems, however last time after about 15 minutes the cake fell out of the bundt cake pan It made a huge crash sound as the bottle and heavy bundt pan fell over when the cake fell out. Thankfully, nothing broke but now I'm a little leery of this method of cooling the bundt pan/cake. This time I decided to bake the cake in an angel food pan which has built in prongs to hold the cake upside down as it cools. When the cake had baked 45 minutes I stuck a toothpick in it to see if it is done....just like I do every time....however this time when I stuck the toothpick in to test if it was done, the entire cake FELL FLAT! Nothing changed on the cake except for the pan I used to bake it in. How could a cake pan make that much difference?!!?
Wow, OKay, I have no solution for your cakes, but I suppose the pieces of the cake are just as delicious? I do angel food cakes in the angel food pan, but this one has no prongs so I put it upside down on a bottle. I always have to run a knife around and between the bottom and cake to dislodge it. Once I tried them in a mini-bundt pan and they fell flat!
Working away here. Bank account reconciled. More paperwork done.
I did at least get the refrigerator cleaned out and food put into the freezer.
I wish I was accomplishing more, but stuff keeps coming up...
DSon has been in intense meetings this week but came home to attend funeral of his "2nd Mom" this afternoon. His best friend in high school/college Mother passed away earlier this week. She was one of DSon biggest encouragers and was always "in his corner". Her son and our son played sports and attended school together for over 17 years so we have a looonngg history of attending what seems like 1000's of games and school events together. She and I have enjoyed remembering good times together as well as those times when our DSon's made decisions they shouldn't have and we parents teamed up to "lower the boom" on them. We have laughed about it and been thankful that both of our DSon's survived their teenage stupid moments and are now happily married, fathers and enjoying benefits of being at the top of their careers. She will be missed by many.
DSon was hosting a conference call as he walked out our door to attend the funeral with DH. I am staying home with LO.
Harmony - Maybe the cake pan has more importance than I thought. The cake still taste great, but it surely does look UGLY. However, it wasn't ugly enough to deter DSon and DH from eating 1/4 of it before it had a chance to completely cool.
