I'm s2s.

The car is 'bathed' and back in the garage. There was enough moisture on it that using a sponge and squeegee, I got the dirt off. Enough rain was falling that the second time around the car I just rinsed off any remaining dirt with the squeegee and then put it in the garage and dried it with a towel. It looks nice and shiny now.

I'm going down to the basement to work now. I'll listen to a video (part of my Lent stuff) while sorting through the videos and bookcases in the family room part of the basement. Dd isn't being helpful - I sent two emails yesterday with photos of stuff and she wants to keep all of it. Sigh... Makes it harder on me, since I want to get some things gone so I have more room to sort, pack and sell. The worst part is that she wants to keep the sofa in that room, the sofa that she hates with every fibre of her body and has never liked. But she figures if she has kids they'll make a mess of anything she buys so she wants stuff she doesn't like in her house. When I had small kids, I had a balance - stuff I really likes but well protected against stains and I told the kids not to eat in the living room and wiped their hands when I let them out of the kitchen.

I spent a few hours in the basement. Sorted through my material (not much of a sewer so don't have too much) and have started two green garbage bags of material that I would normally toss (i.e. old sheeting that I had saved) that I can use as packing material.

I've also tidied up a bit of storage room, moving all of ds's things to his room, and dd's things into one spot. Found a 3/4 sized antique mahogany four-post bed that I had completely forgotten I had saved from Dad's house.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that I'm going to have to dejunk the storage room first, then put the things we are keeping in there. Sigh... the headroom in there is only 5' and I'm 5'4" so it is hard on my back to work in there.

I'm done with qt today.
Dgd is here ill with a cough and has a bit of a fever today so we are staying indoors.
Before she arrived I got a letter out to the mail box for my mom & sis today.
I baked up the last pan of cookies for lunches from this batch of dough.
Lunch is done & that reminds me I do need a plan for dinner. Oh I've got it have planned left overs from cooked ahead turkey sausage I can use that.

OKay, impossible to explain to LO, but I am actually somewhat pleased to hear that there is a "Mr. Principal" at the school who handles discipline quickly (and, I assume, in a way that meets school criteria). I realize that could go either way - possibility of that being done incorrectly, of course. Still, if LO only knew how sometimes in life the disciplinarian creates the better atmosphere for the future. Disclaimer from HRH, who says no, it cannot be done correctly and is not the principal's domain. Both of us agree it's a shame other students were made aware. It is true, isn't it ... occurs to me it might be a rumor.


Sometimes I am the one who takes a check for HRH, to drop by the bank to deposit in our joint account, receiving a portion in cash back. I've banked with the same institution for 35 years, through its incarnations as First-U, W, and now WF and done this same thing for all of the 35 years. Today for the first time ever, they wouldn't give me cash back. They said that it didn't matter that my name is on the account, it didn't matter that money in my account would far more than cover the cash back. The check is made out to another person and I can't have funds from that deposit unless I am willing to endorse the back of the check myself. They said they were "sorry for the inconsistency". I said there was no inconsistency - it had never happened before in 35 years of constant requests for the same service, so it must be a WF practice. They insist it is "common banking practice". So here's my question - do your banks allow a spouse (or any joint account holder) to receive cash back when the deposit they're making at the time is a check made out to the other spouse?

Harriet - dunno - haven't had a bank account in 40 years (only use credit unions) also haven't been in a bank or credit union office in 10 years - we do all of our financial stuff online or via snail mail. Sorry I couldn't help. I know some friends of ours has a rebate check from their credit card and the bank that issued the check wouldn't cash it because they didn't have an account in that branch. DUH! Nationwide bank - full time RVers - couldn't get any money.

Back from massage. She wasn't as good as the guy I saw last week but she was also less than 1/2 the price. I'll see how it goes until Monday then will maybe make another appointment. Dunno which one yet.

Since I am so relaxed - I'll check the inside of my eyelids for leaks for an hour or so. Dinner tonight is left over fried chicken from Monday night. Might have to make more veggies to go with.

Oh, my, Harriet! I'd be so pissed! Common banking practice when you're MARRIED and in a joint account? This is just too weird! Sorry, but it just doesn't make sense to have a policy like this in place now. Just my two cents' worth. I would've been SO frustrated and angry!

Our bank allows money back when cashing in a spouse's work check. They always have. Of course, now, everything's direct deposit. So things could have changed.

Nancy, Sorry dgd is ill with a cough and fever. Hope she'll get well soon,too.

Emptynester, Did you see on the news how sage brush had blown over to a man and woman's house and it entirely covered the whole front of the house? He has a lot of work now, to get rid of it. Just wondered if you get sage brush there. You travel around, so I don't know if you're currently in sage brush country.

I did s2s, emails, checked obits & death notices, did hot spots, journal writing, and sheets are washing. I got a bit upset this morning and cried. I found a wonderful sailor sun dress with hat and jacket pattern for a 6-month baby girl, in my magazine from 2009, but I am right in the middle of a writing deadline. So I cannot drop everything, go buy yarn, and put all that time and energy into making the set. I DO have several easy-to-crochet quick sundresses, halters, dresses, sweaters, etc.... AND I have all the yarn, so decided to calm down, use what I have on hand, and just don't be so sorry I'm not doing the sailor sun dress set. I'll go with what I have, will slowly do things on and off, 1 at a time, over the spring and summer months. I'm not going to beat myself up because I don't have time to do such an intricate lovely pattern. Things I'm doing are cute, sweet, and just fine. I have a part-time job and work 20 - 35 hours a week, so I can't do everything. (Trying to give myself a "pep talk" here.)

DH was so sweet. He stripped the bed and put the sheets in the washer for me. He's getting ready for lunch, is watching baseball from the training camp, a game, and will soon take garbage up and check mail. I'm glad I tidied up in the great/dining room, so it looks prettier.

Harriet: Something similar happened to me once with dh's paycheque. According to the teller, he had to endorse it for me to DEPOSIT it into our joint bank account but since he was away, writing "for deposit only to account xxxx" on the back was insufficient. Dh was traveling, so that wasn't possible.

I pointed out that I wasn't cashing the paycheque, I was just depositing it. Into an account with his name on it. But the teller insisted that I could come back later and take money out of the account and 'steal' the money from dh without his permission. So I took the paycheque back, walked over to the automatic teller, deposited there into the same account! Since I write dh's paycheque, now I just put K on it instead of Ken and they assume I'm depositing my paycheque.

Popped into the storage room to see what would be involved in making it my first priority.

Off-season clothes storage - problem, want to wait until spring when I need to haul all those clothes out anyway.
Old paints - no problem (they are staying!)
Christmas decorations - problem, want to wait until next year to deal with these
Other decorations - no problem
Plant pots, old boots, skates - no problem
Record collection - no problem, I really need to make a decision on this (keep and transfer to mp3 by buying one of those turntables? sell?)
Extra linens from my dad's - no problem but easier to deal with when dd moves back so I can dump them on her!
Camping stuff - no problem but would prefer to wait until summer to pull things out and set them up

Baby things (travel crib, rocking horse, saved baby cloths) PROBLEM
Children's toys PROBLEM

For the last two items, I'm nowhere in the head space to deal with deciding what to do with them. I know I have to cut down on the number of toys but since dd is thinking of opening a daycare, it would be nice to pass them along to her.

Someone I was talking to on the weekend said that they did four passes on their house when they downsized. The first was to clear out the obvious stuff in order to prep the house for sale, the second was while they were packing things up, the third was when they knew what they were moving to and realized they couldn't keep everything they wanted and the final pass was after the move and they couldn't fit even that subset into their new home.

So I might just resign myself to several passes and start with the easy stuff (non-Christmas decorations and plant pots, for instance). If I can clear out one section, I pile some of the other stuff into there.

I need to decide what to do with VHS movies as well. We had done a pass through them a few years ago and so this time when I glanced through, all the ones that were mine were favourites that I don't want to give up. I'm sure dh will feel the same about his.

Having dd here would make a lot of this easier. She told me on the phone last week that she has no intention of returning to here until she's done at school (Christmas.) I can't believe she even said that. She spent the first few years she was there complaining about not being in Ontario, and she could move back NOW without any problem since she's doing distance learning with a college here and her dh works from home while awaiting news on the government job. Besides, who wants to move in a Canadian winter, especially when the Rockies are between you and your destination? I'm thinking she is completely off her rocker and needs an intervention.

I've put in almost a full 4 hours, my hands are getting numb, from the arm rests on my office chair, so the end is near, I'm going to let it rest overnight, and call it a day in the office, for work stuff. I'm off to stretch, crochet, and DH and I'll be making the bed soon.

I just got a "Prevention" magazine in the mail, so I'll read on that, because it's so informative and full of wonderful information! Today's flown by for me, so far. It rains on and off.

I owe 3 ladies letters, too, so I might answer them, too. Why is it they say, "The world's my oyster"? Is it because some oysters have a beautiful pearl inside them? My world today's an oyster and I believe a pearl is something nice, which blesses us and happens to us, during the day. I think I'll go enjoy some pearls. ♥
