Mystery Monday
Just begin.
Living this day, today
Take a reality check; Remember to breathe; Do what I am able to do.
Look for the good in all.

Re: Mystery Monday
Yes, the Douglas Adams quote about deadlines is wonderful and always gets a chuckle here at work during tax season.
We do miss "Mystery" woman!
Here at work again. Have been feeling somewhat low - with the formal notice of hearing on dis I received a copy of report from independent social work which was depressing, even tho I've been with her and seen the issues cited. Mentions difficulty with most ADLs (activities of daily living) and all IADLs. (Instrumental activities of daily living.)
Also thinking hard about not working - I don't want to burn any bridges and I may leave the door open to come back next tax season at a reduced schedule.
On to work....

Re: Mystery Monday
Good morning, villagers ~
Thanks for opening the thread, Lynlee. I love the Douglas Adams quote about deadlines. I should pull out his Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series and reread them, very funny sci-fi.
We had a quiet weekend here. It poured rain on Saturday and drizzled all day yesterday. Washed away a lot of the snow.
This morning I have some eye tests at 10 and a little shopping after. Not too stressful.

Re: Mystery Monday
I love the Douglas Adams quote!!!! (The Hitchhiker's Guide series made it into the 'keep' pile on the weekend so we can introduce them to our hypothetical grandchildren.)
I did make my empty bedroom for ds deadline (which was Saturday.) And I'm proceeding well with the bookcases - that deadline in April 12 to drop the books at the public school for their used book sale.
Most years we drop off a bag of books, most of which we had bought the year before, and then buy two bags of books to read on our trips. We actually have one bookshelf in the house specifically for these books and since we paid 25 cents for each of them, if anything doesn't strike our fancy when we start reading, we simply put the book aside and read another. There is a 'divider book' (on Jabber, a computer language) and the books to the right of that one are books ready to donate back, the books to the left are unread.
This year, we are dropping off about 6 boxes of books and will have the children's books (plus any books we read during the year) to drop off next spring. Dh is away during the sale this year, which is fortuitous! (Plus we have more than enough books on our 'to read while traveling' shelf, to last for the next couple of years. We take those with us on trips and just leave them behind since most places we go have a "help-yourself" bookshelf for guests/passengers.)
As for daily living deadlines:
I'm up and dressed. Bedroom is tidied. I didn't sleep well due to coughing and I feel super-lousy, muscle aches from the cough spasms, my chest is tight, throat hurts and I'm afraid to talk or move around because that brings on more coughing. Am sitting here sipping tea.
Physio is at 10 so I'm working up the energy to go.

Re: Mystery Monday
I woke to a beautiful sunshiny day. PLUS - my blood sugar is WAY below goal for the 2nd day in a row. I don't know what's with that as I had deserts and ice cream last night. But I'll take it.
We are having guests for dinner on Tuesday night so my goals for the next two days are to get the house spick and span. Bedroom is good, LR is good after I pick up a few foot prints, Kitchen needs dishes done and floor swiped.
Den is another story so that is where my energy will go. I have a plan written down of mini goals for the den so will try to achieve all of them today and tomorrow. I watched an episode of Food Hoarders last night for inspiration.
Next up: Breakfast and meds and then S2sox.

Re: Mystery Monday
Happy Monday!
CATHYS, are you going on a cruise? I missed that somewhere in following along.
HARRIET, way to go on the shower attendance!
KATHRYN, interesting about your tree tapping. We have a birch tree that Dh cut a limb off of last year. The poor tree dripped for 2 weeks. That is where they get the birch bark beer that I see for sale around here. It's like root beer. Also, we have a nordictrak from the mid '90's. We used it for maybe 2 winters, but it is still with us. I hurt my shoulder by having the arm setting too high. It took months for the pain to go away. Dh thinks we will use it again, but I'm not so sure.
Had a busy weekend. Dh cut down some small trees on Saturday. Many more to go. Sunday was church, lunch out, then grocery store. Church was wonderful. We have many young missionary families visiting this month.
Today I need to drop off recycling, drop books off at thrift store, and visit showroom for home remodeling. I have a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a basement that need help. Also need to paint 2 bedrooms, but surely Dh and I can do that. We are just not as swift as we used to be!
Looks like spring is here...for a couple of days, anyway. Wishing you all a great day!!

Re: Mystery Monday
Thank you for the quotes and opening Lynlee.
We too, bought a Nordictrak in the mid 90's. We donated it last summer to the Bible Bowl garage sale. We didn't move it and the sale was right before the closing of our house sale. Not moving it, we intended to buy a treadmill and still haven't done that. Everytime we find one we want, dh reads the reviews and we second guess our decision.
Twins, if you do quit working, it will make the caretaking of your dm and dsis, a little less stressful for you. I hope the hearing for your dsis goes the way you want it to. I would think that as long as you have worked there, that they would rather have you at a reduced schedule next tax season, than not at all.
I think I will stay at home today and clean. Still haven't heard from the bug guy, but it's only a matter of time.

Re: Mystery Monday
Good morning! It is a gray blustery day today but not too cold (for us this time of year), about 49 right now. Our snow is pretty much gone!
I got up at 9:20 after going to bed at 2 a.m. The flight last night was delayed by an hour, landing at 12:07 a.m. Fortunately, they had already gone through customs in NYC. Then, the luggage carousel was having issues. They didn't get out to my van until 12:45 a.m. Then, ds and and 1 other student realized they had toiletries in the bag of another student, so a call was made and we stopped by that other student's apartment first once back in town. . . I dropped off the last student at 1:45 a.m. - and then went home. *phew* That was a late night for me, but I'm so glad everyone is safely home.
Today:
-a.m. routine
-Hebrew: We're switching to bereshit (Genesis) and are getting our texts in class today. I have printed off the Hebrew for Genesis 1 from a web site; it is easier on my eyes than my Stuttgarten Biblia Hebraica. The web site version includes the English text, but I will want to look up some words on my own too. . . Many English translations don't stick precisely to the Hebrew text in some instances. Or, some words in Hebrew have several translation options. . . .
-read book club book? Not sure how strongly I feel about this. I will not be able to finish it by tonight anyway. This month it is To the Lighthouse by VIrginia Woolf.
-perhaps a groc. store run
x emailed steering committee with details of our next meeting; I heard back from the church secretary (1 of them) this morning
-exercise in some form would be good
-call orthodontist
-hebrew class at 5:05
-dd14 to band rehearsal 6:30 - 8:30
-book club at 8:00

Re: Mystery Monday
Also delighted to see Bobby McFerrin honored by Lynlee this morning with a quotable quote! I think he must have such a pure respect for music, to choose to create complete pieces of music without any instrument or accompaniment, even though he is so in demand as a conductor. Here is my favorite of his quotes :
"If I can bring joy into the world, if I can get people to stop thinking about their pain for a moment, or the fact that tomorrow morning they're going to get up and tell their boss off... then I'll be successful." And (except for his funny lyrics) this may be the funniest : "My songs are like my children: some you want around and some you want to send off to college as soon as possible."
Great job on blood sugar, Emptynester. You must be livin' right.
I feel like ellyphant did last evening, in that I've missed several things. Kathryn, do you have a virus?
helia, what a late night, but worth it to see each one safely back to home/normal.
We were so tired last evening that we forgot to close up the henhouse, even the gate to the yard, but we got lucky. All is well. HRH was surprised to look out the window and see hens in the yard at dawn. Yipes. I guess he was an earlier bird than the hawk! As a matter of fact, I hear the hawk right now as I'm typing. He's already dive-bombed the pen at least once this year, but thankfully only got a beak-full of HRH's chicken wire roof. He and the missus never let a day go by that they don't make several fly-overs here, testing our vigilance.
I am a little spooked by my dr's appt tomorrow. Never used to feel this way. Nowadays, when he's looking at blood work and frowning at this number or that, I have the feeling I'm taking a test. Can I bring up my LDL grade? Will I pass my triglici-test? Exactly how many aches and pains can I admit in order to get advice but keep from calling forth further testing. LOL.
Had one of my custom smoothies this morning, using the online food calculator to balance blueberries, blackberries, cherries, banana with coconut milk and protein powder and come up with Dr. Sears' prescribed Zone balance of protein, carbs and fat. This is exactly what he says not to do, btw, spend too much time on the numbers.
