Lilac, I'm confused why, if she is giving him this lifestyle prescription for the next 3 months, at the first visit she's mentioned pre-diabetes, she would put him on Metformin now. Doesn't he need (and she need) to see what the results of the lifestyle changes will be before deciding whether a medicine is right for him? Won't the Metformin skew the results and keep him from knowing what the lifestyle changes can do? It could be that at 10 pounds down, exercising regularly, and with better diet, he wouldn't need to be on a medicine. This is the none-of-my-business-dept, but if he could make lifestyle changes and see positive results from his own efforts, he might stick with the lifestyle changes more readily. At least i hope she'll give him a plan for coming off the medicine, as something to look forward to. ((you and dh))
Dd and I hit the grocery store, which was needed. I fielded a phone call or two.
Are you speaking of annual flowers, Dove, that are decisions of what to plant this year? Which are you choosing between?
((Lilac and Mr. Lilac)) That is a lot going on for you two! Why can't dd2 host? --Or maybe you don't want to drag all that out. Maybe being pre-diabetic doesn't necessarily mean he'll become diabetic?
It was nice to go for a jog, even if I am still woefully out of shape. I least I could keep going for 28 minutes. We went to the starting place we used to go to, the one in the arboretum. Dh stopped going there in the winter b/c (1) the path is unpaved and is not always cleared of snow and (2) he found out that bump on his toe is arthritis, most likely due to a past injury. The Dr. was enthusiastic about his running but recommended he run only on smooth surfaces. SO. .. .I'm not sure why he's back to the rougher surface of this route, but it is prettier, more wildly forested, with clear views of the river. It was a beautiful day for a jog, clear skies, sunshine, everyone and their dogs were out in it.
Dh helped me cook a simple pasta meal. He has now left to go to the concert with ds. It is some University talent show? Ds said some of his friends were in it. . . .
Evening chores:
-clean up the kitchen with the girls
-finish wiping/dusting living areas
-clean bathroom up
-maybe sweep front porch
-fold laundry
-put out Easter baskets after the kids go to bed. Oh -- this means I have to go to bed after them. They go to bed pretty late.
I was tickled to see I'm not the only one who still does Easter for their kids, scattered. Who doesn't want a chocolate bunny and some small gifts? (I keep it simple.)

Want to wish you all a very Happy Easter (weekend). We returned from AZ today, 1:30 this afternoon and it is so nice to be here. Back to our big TV, big Monitor, big Bed, etc. You get the picture. We had such a great winter and are so looking forward to December when we return to a new place, same park. It is new and is not for sale so we won't be bothered with the lookie loos like this year. I am excited. It is bigger and newer and has a big window over-looking the Superstion Mountains. We said our goodbyes to Cowinkie and Sweetie the other night. We will miss them. They are so much fun to be around.
(((Lilac))) This is such ugly talk - diet and prediabetic and all that. I arrived home to a message on the answering machine to make an appointment with my doctor. I know what he will say and I have already been threatened with meds for prediabetis. I shall follow through.

I left work around 6:30 - beginning to get work out - my inventory is down to only 14 returns or so - I was up close to 30 returns for a couple of weeks. It's nice to be home so early on a Saturday. DD is still out, and will be return to UT-Knox tomorrow. I think dh is going to make matzah brei for her for supper.
I am beginning to think about "after tax season" which is a dangerous thing.

Syrup is done, got 8 oz. This was another 14:1 batch so we aren't quite at the 10:1 they predicted.
Dinner is done. Dh made up the dinner and we watched the Season 5 opener to Mad Men which has just gone up on Netflix. It remembered we watched the other 4 seasons and sent an email to dh when the next season was posted. Nice.
I've washed up the dishes that can't go in the dishwasher, remembered to removed the second rack from the oven (for tomorrow), brought in the laundry and brought in the garbage cans. All the laundry was dry which seems miraculous because one of the pieces was the winter duvet. The other winter duvet was in the dryer for 90 minutes and still took overnight on the drying rack to dry. What a difference sunshine and warm temps make to drying time!
Dh is busy making up a song sheet with chords for tomorrow. Then we'll go over the music. All familiar tunes but I'm using new words to Thine is the Glory.

blessed and others cooking, if I had a family meal tomorrow on top of everything else, I don't think I'd be able to say "yes" to choir at all. I'm impressed with all the preparations.

Lilac, I was thinking about a man losing weight over 3 months, and the chances are very good that he could surpass 10 pounds and hit 15 or more. Men can lose weight so much faster than women. And yes, helia, a diagnosis of pre-diabetes (pre-type2 diabetes) can be reversed. There is a series of "30-Day" books for reversing it by Franklin House and Stuart Seale, plus Neal Barnard routinely does it for his patients and has written Program for Reversing Diabetes. I found these for HRH when his doctor first started questioning his blood sugar. Their advice is one of the reasons HRH likes to prepare vegetarian meals. Mark Hyman who's been on PBS so much lately sites a study that speculates it can be reversed in a week.
I still do very small Easter treats for ds, ddil, and dgs. VERY SMALL. I felt like I was really an Easter Scrooge, though, after seeing a picture online of a dcousin's spread for her grandchild! Oh well. I just did a little toy of stacking cup/balls (b/c dgs loves to play with some we have here from ds's baby days) and some little baby cereal-bite snacks, b/c he's able to eat those now. Put some Tootsie Rolls, Peeps, and jelly beans in for ds/ddil. It was not much at all. The other grandparents will probably go all overboard while they're up there visiting this weekend. Oh well. I'm not really going to let myself worry about that. We are all the time taking them out for supper, etc, and dgs really does not need clothes OR toys at this point.
I am so proud of myself!
Sheets are back on the bed & all laundry is put away.
There is one load that could be washed, but it will have to wait.

Sadie, I remember well those talks which trickle down from the top from when I worked at Sam's, but it never was. Sometimes they tried to make one feel that the next time would be your last! I also remember the store announcements as we did special photo packages on the major holidays while I worked in the photo lab!
((Lilac & dh)), I've heard of borderline diabetic -- maybe that's the same meaning as pre-diabetic. Hope dh doesn't have a hard time adjusting to new routine.
We still make Easter baskets for our dgkids and until this year we also included sweets for dss and ddsil. This time we did not use baskets, but used qt. size zip bags. Fri am we mailed a box for VA dgkids.
My weekend cleaning was done yesterday and this morning. No visit today from dfam#1 or tomorrow with dfam#2. Yesterday ddil#1 had a d&c procedure and is still hurting. We are going there for dinner tomorrow; ds had the whole weekend off and her dmom is cooking tomorrow with help from ds. Dfam#2 has ddils dmom and ddad visiting for the weekend for her dbro b'day.
I saw there was a 2.1 earthquake in northern Arkansas this afternoon.
It stays light here until nearly 8 pm now and I was surprised to look at the clock and see it light that late.
