Re: First Tuesday of Summertime
Those of you that have a kindle nook ipad reader thingie can you post here from that and did you get a key board for it? How easy is it? Thinking of getting one for our ann. or my bday. Shopping and lots of newer smaller ones 7" seem to be out now. Our son likes apple but I'm to cheap to get that one. He said to get ipad not net on the phone. So thinking of the wifi on phones when we upgrade not till next yr. I think how ever I do need to go in and get my update info. I think I might have info. overload at the moment! LOL! One other thing does Pinterest work on those or take up too much data.

Re: First Tuesday of Summertime
Sorry about that Twins....
Since you mentioned being a history buff....I would put this in the What are you reading site, but I am afraid some would not read about it if I put it there....
I just finished reading The King's Deception by Steven Perry. If you liked the Di Vincie code, then this book is for you. I can't tell you much about the story as I don't want to spoil it in any way....but like Dan Brown this story is interwoven with supposed facts and modern fiction. I see a tour of London's famous landmarks in the works as much of the back story can be documented.
I learned about the book from an interview on the TV I think...The premis is that a well kept Tutor secret..think Henry VIII is about to be revealed to the modern day world. Teaser...Elizabeth is not the queen you think he is...Try not to read the reviews on Amazon and such. The clue of the story is within what I have writen. Based on ledgend the backstory is of what if's and how the truth would change todays world. P.S if you read the book, don't cheat and read the notes found in the back of the book. Use your own brain...thats half the fun.
Bet Norma's on the way to her Kindle library by now....

Re: First Tuesday of Summertime
Thought I better post now just in case we get storms again today. Last night we had storms blow up rather quickly producing a waterspout that moved onshore and caused some damage for a small area about 10 miles SE of us. The storm was close enough and there was enough lightning and thunder to rattle the windows; I unplugged the computers, etc. http://www.baynews9.com/content/news/ba ... _for_.html
Good Grief....I didn't know how long this link would be (I don't know how to make a short cut)
Cowinkie...I liked the links you gave. I haven't heard that song in years!
Dee...I can understand the anxiety you feel; I hope you can stay calm and take one day, one issue at a time. I hope dh's meds will stabilize dh so he can recover without further problems.
Harriet....it's so nice that your dd can be of help to her dfriend's family.
Kathryn....I'm glad you are able to enjoy your trip.
Thinking of everyone up north who have had bad storms last few days...stay safe!
Happy Birthday Mr. Harmony!
Nancy...I have one of the older Kindles. It is only black & white, with it's own keyboard, no touch screen. It has internet in it, but is classed as "experimental" as they were just developing the Kindles with good internet. The Kindle Fire is much easier to use; my ddil#3 has one and I like it.
I have one week from today to get ready for dgd15 and her dbro, dgd11, visit to us. There's not a lot to do, I keep fresh sheets on the beds, but I do have to relocate a few things in the two guest bedrooms. I have blankets folded on both beds to put away -- won't use them in the summertime. I also have to make sure they have enough space in their chests of drawers. The only other thing is to tidy my sewing table in the small bedroom. We'll have to think of a few places to go while they are here. I want to keep them busy so they're not bored!
Supper is over and KP duty is done. I have a load of my clothes to put in the dryer yet. Want to get that done right away.
See you later....

Re: First Tuesday of Summertime
Nancy, I have (I think) a first generation iPad. I have a Zagg keyboard/case for it but found it somewhat clunky. When you type on the screen keyboard, you have autocorrect working for you, on the Zagg keyboard there's no auto correct, and I couldn't get past the learning curve w/o auto correct. I have seen people type very fast and well on the iPad screen keyboard. Sometimes I think I'll get out the keyboard again and try it.
Pinterest works well on the ipad, I use a free app from the iTunes store.
The only thing that I don't use the iPad for is surfing the blogs I visit frequently. It seems to take too long to load sites with a lot of graphics. I also tend not to use the iPad for long emails or posts here or any very detailed typing because it feels clunky either way. I do take it to dmom's dr appts and take notes in Evernote.
I get frustrated when I start cleaning up papers because the scanner seldom will talk wirelessly to my computer without a reboot of one or both.
Dogs are already getting edgy about walking and making me crazy. Or maybe it's the guy mowing the yard next door? I'd like to wait until 8:30ish to walk.
-another round of paper taming
-make the bed so it's comfortable to get into
-pack up another return if I can find the invoice
-record items listed in my book for follow up from the last few days of running
-start on li&t for tomorrow so I don't fritter it away

Re: First Tuesday of Summertime
BookSaver and Sunny, so sorry you have had to deal with scary storm situations!
Just to let you know where my head is today, I dashed out to the bookstore and bought the book Cowinkie recommended (no not THAT one, the non-fiction one - who do you think is posting here
I'm a non-fiction girl. ). It's about cutting back on sugar. Dropped by the McDonald's and had a hot fudge Sundae in the parking lot as I started to read it. ( ...
...what? ) I was going to be good (no, not about the Sundae, about the book purchase!), but I was 56th in line for the library copies
and it was on sale at the bookstore for as long as it stays on the best seller list, which may not last, and they only had 2 left. So, it was, like, an emergency purchase!
I told HRH it was for him. Virtually half true. He knows I'll bug him by reading parts to him.
Is it Mr. Harmony's birthday!? Well, sending happy wishes southward!

I started chuckling while thinking "Someone besides me does that?"It's about cutting back on sugar. Dropped by the McDonald's and had a hot fudge Sundae in the parking lot as I started to read it.
We typically only have a few weeks of over 100 temps but looking for shade when scouting a place in parking lot is a typical behavior for me. And using my skirt tail as a hot pad when opening an older vehicle door. The newer vehicles don't seem to burn the finger tips like the old ones do.
Nancy - I second Twins comment about lack of speed. I love using the Kindle Fire but not for everything. Ditto on Windows Tablets. Ditto on Android tablet. If the question is "Will they do it?". They answer is typically "Yes". Similar to "Will a bicycle get you to a store 20 miles away?" Yes it will.....but it is going to seem like a very long trip if your used to making the trip in a car.
After LO finished up his craft project (stepping stone) at the library we visited DMom. Today she had 2 deliveries (new refrigerator and a recliner) which finishes up her home projects. I'm still very concerned about her not thinking "normal" (for her) but am hesitant on doing anything about it. I wonder if the partial blockage in her neck is getting to the point that might not be allowing enough blood through to her brain. She has appt in a couple weeks with cardiologist. I'm hopeful if that is the problem then fixing it will make a huge improvement.
I configured & installed irrigation system in another vegetable bed. this one only took me 1.5 hours. I'm getting faster but it is still seems slow working my way through them.

Re: First Tuesday of Summertime
Had an excellent day today but am tired.
We got off a bit late. I wasn't feeling well after breakfast and can't figure out why (raisin bran, honeydew melon, tea, apple juice, english muffin with a small bit of raspberry jam.) We bought a scone for my second breakfast which I ate in the car and I packed a cooler bag with milk, salad and chicken for my second lunch, and emergency rations of water and crackers.
The drive there was through pouring rain on a freeway but it stopped when we arrived in Brighton. We met up with our friends right away and then walked around the town for an hour, checking out the shops and chatting.
We then moved to a restaurant on the lakefront but there were no seats with a view. While eating the sun came out (it had still been threatening rain) and so we had tea out on the deck after finishing our lunches, staying almost 3 hours in total. I had just a roast beef dip sandwich with no sides and left the bread from the second half. It was perfect and probably the best I've had in years. I keep ordering it thinking it will be good and it is awful, but here the roast beef was incredibly tender and tasty. Must remember to write a review.
Dh and I took a scenic drive, complete with a ferry ride back to Kingston. The weather is gorgeous so we drove with the windows down and enjoyed the feeling of summer. I had my second lunch in the car while driving. Our route into Kingston took us past a dairy with great ice cream and cheap milkshakes so we stopped there and I had a frozen yoghurt (trying to cut the fat in my diet using baby steps.)
The hotel was offering a complementary bbq tonight so I had another salad and half a hamburg. They were offering Coke so I had about 2 oz to see how I tolerated it. It went down fine but didn't taste good to me at all, so maybe that will help me get over the 'want' feeling I have. I'm trying to stay off it.
After dinner, dh and I walked 1.75 miles (with a stop half way for me to rest.) I wanted fresh berries so we walked to a grocery store and bought some and then picked up a bagel for dh and sat there while he ate it. I had a glass of tap water.
I sat down by the lake for about 20 minutes before coming back up to the hotel room. I'm trying to get myself to do knee physio since I've skipped it over and over this week. I don't have to do stairs here so have no idea how I'd do on them after all this walking.
Tomorrow we'll take the ferry across to the island at the mouth of the St. Lawrence and go hunting for the shipping channel so I can see some ships. Lots of boats in view here but not ships. Then I'll go shopping in the afternoon and dh will go to a sunning spot.

Re: First Tuesday of Summertime
Thanks for the q's you gals answered about the kindle, i-thingies. I've used [briefly] the dgds b/w ones that don't do the net and dil's kindle fire that does and dd tablet. So at least I know how they work.
Now I'll be looking at the smaller p/cs as dson is convinced that I need the key board sigh they cost more is the only thing. Our phone does not have the wifi so maybe when we upgrade next time in a yr. It's fun to look and learn about the new stuff coming out.
dgd has left
h. is home now.

Good visit to the Dr tonight. Next up will be the cardiologist on Monday. Dh still has some of the same issues but Dr. thinks they're improving. We both felt better after that visit. I'll try to update more tonight. I'm feeling better and not so overwhelmed. You gals are the best(est!)

Re: First Tuesday of Summertime
LOL, Harriet, I'm a nonfiction type of woman too, although the fiction book Cowinkie recommends does sound good.
I am losing my mind right now and am completely on edge. Dogs continue indiscriminate barking, and ds comes through for regular chit chats. I guess I should be happy he is chatty but I wish ddogs would stop this barking at nothing nonsense.
I need opinions regarding a possible item to send to dd at camp for her 12 y/o campers: foam glow sticks? Are 12 y/o girls likely to regard these as too babyish? I picked up some at the Dollar spot at Target but now am second guessing whether they are age appropriate.
Oops, didn't get this posted before walking ddogs...signing off for now...
