Stormy Tuesday

Good morning, villagers ~

The weather forecasters are saying 70% chance of thunderstorms for today, which for me means 70% chance of the electricity going out.

I'm trying to finish a couple of loads of laundry before the storms start.

Must run several errands this afternoon, and then we're meeting a friend for a burger for supper.

I'm grateful that my life is not more exciting than that at the moment.

That is probably the storm that we experienced last night here in Rapid City, SD. The weather bureau said until 11 and at 11:01 it was like someone turned off the fan and we had a quiet night after that.

Today we are going to do some sight seeing in a town we know and like. We haven't been here for several years so will hit a museum or two, a cafe or two and check out the changes.

We have 30 amp, full hook up with wifi and cable TV for $18 per night, so we will be staying until Sunday to rest up, stock up and see the sights.

Then we are headed to a lake in northern Montana for more R&R. We might even make a day trip or more into Canada as we are near Saskatchewan and have never been there.

It was stormy last night where CathyS lives so I expect she'll have some stories to tell when she returns.

It was nice to see Harriet posting last night. I'm glad dd33 is there for her. When the news came, I realized there was no way that dd33 had got home before the death and my heart went out to her. There was nothing she could do and her presence is far more important now, but I still know she'll feel a bit left out. I'm glad she is there for dd14 as well. Dd14 has been an amazing person through all this upheaval over the past few years, I just hope she realizes this is an example of doing one's best in difficult circumstances. It isn't something she can put on a college application form but I feel it is a solid indicator of her wonderful character.

I'm going home today. Because, basically, I have no medical reason to stay in the hospital. In theory, I'm fine.

I'll make an appointment with my GP when I get home to talk about pain control (since I shouldn't be needing the pain pills around the clock - the 'bad' doc was surprised I still need them since I'm better according to the tests.) I also need to find out about healing expectations. The 'bad' doc keeps saying I shouldn't feel sick and thus dismisses my every concern. I'm in Dep ends now because I've lost control over my bowels. Don't know how long that will last and whether it is the introduction of solid food or the enema or a combination of both that caused that. Don't know when it will settle.

I'll also try and get an earlier appointment with the 'good' doc (my first surgeon.) I have an appointment in 15 days and he's still on holiday so I may have to wait until then to see him but that's all I can think of doing.

I'll also order a copy of my complete chart. The 'bad' doc says I don't need that, if I go to any other ER they will just order up a copy of my chart from this hospital and have it in 30 minutes, but I know that isn't the truth. My son does medical record requests overnight and it requires him to find someone to cover his switchboard or admissions office, go downstairs to the basement and pull the file and then fax it over to the other hospital. Since he isn't a doctor, he has to fax virtually everything or just a one page summary because he can't decide what the other ER needs.

I had an awful start to the day (woke up for blood at 6 and then counting the time until I could ask for my next drugs.) But now that the drugs are taking effect, I'm feeling a bit more optimistic. I am in a complete sweat, though. And was in the middle of the night as well.

My breakfast is here so I shall see what I can try and eat.

Awful night last night. I accidentally backed into Maia with my van while heading out to book club. I headed to the emergency vet clinic instead. She will be fine; she has some bruising in her lungs, and that is it -- though, that could be serious on its own. The vet called at 12:30 last night after the X Rays to let us know about the bruising and that they were giving maia extra Oxygen since she seemed to be dipping low w/out help. A call this morning let us know that she was stable last night, but still needs O2 support. They'll try to wean her off it today and see if she can come home tonight.

I can't tell you how awful I feel about this. I know it was an accident - but still. It is a really awful feeling. I had no idea Maia liked to sleep under cars, something the other members of this family seem to know. I also did not know the dogs were outside last night at 8:15 - they're usually inside in the evening - let alone that one was sleeping behind/under my van. When my van is parked in front of the garage, it is impossible to see anything behind it for several feet if one comes out the house door and walks straight to the driver's door of the van, which I did - as I usually do. Understandable but still awful. I've stopped thinking of the "what ifs," which is helpful. SO glad I backed up slowly and didn't gun it when I felt the car meet something in the driveway. SO glad it looks like Maia will be OK. SO glad I immediately took her to the emergency clinic, even though she looked fine.

I woke up about every hour last night and had some stomach issues, due to fretting and anxiety, I believe. SO, I'm hoping for a nap later today.

Not as serious as what others here are dealing with, for sure; Maia is a dog not a human, after all. But that is what is going on with me right now.

I'm off to try the Sec. of State again for dd15's learner's permit. They open in 15 minutes.

Good luck, Helia! I understand how awful you feel -thank goodness, Maia will be ok. My favorite thing to dislike is backing up ANYWHERE!

Dh is out 'walking'. Been gone for a while so I suspect he's actually 'talking' somewhere.

I'm not even dressed yet. Have tested bs and had meds -that's it. I was still awake at 3 -as was dh. Woke back up at 5:20 and then again at 7:30. I see a short nap on the horizon. Dh has an appointment with the heart surgeon at 3. Know he won't be doing anything about the current symptoms, meds, etc so can hardly wait for nurse tomorrow or cardiologist on Thursday. Dh is supposed to have a stress test on Thursday -imagine it will depend on his condition.

Ah, yes, Kathryn. Harriet's dd14 is a fantastic girl. Wish they were closer so I could watch her finish growing up. Glad for all Harriet's family around her.

Need to get my dishes done this morning. Want to leave about 1:30 for Dr as I have no idea where he's located (in or near the hospital).

Off to s2s and hopefully get on with my day.

I'm feeling optimistic this morning. Yesterday I worked almost non-stop and was able to complete 53 cards. This morning I have completed 55 cards before 7am. Once again, I find that it REALLY makes a difference being on top of things (maintenance mode) or having to put extra time/effort into catching up. I have a long way to go, but at least I can see progress being made.

Yesterday I was also able to complete 2 projects. I delivered the 2012 tax prep to CPA (finally!!) and also delivered documentation to lawyer office for Motion to continue.

It has been 21 days since it has rained here. The ground is rock hard where the irrigation system doesn't reach. I tried harvesting (digging) the potatoes....nope. I used several different tools and none of them made any progress. I finally gave up. The areas of the vegetable garden where the irrigation system has been installed is growing like crazy now. This morning I harvested tomatoes, beets, carrots, green beans, asparagus, mustard greens, turnip greens and 3 kinds of peppers (bell, banana, jalapeno).

I went out w a friend for a few hours today.
bin day - threw out some things - a token effort. also old ph book.

I'm up late - been reading online. Its past time for teeth cleaned and lights off.

Ate 3/4 slice of toast, 1 cup of tea, a couple of bites of egg, 1/2 cup of apple juice. I'm burping and crampy but not in pain. Remember, I'm also under the effect of narcotics right now.

I'm all sweaty. I need to get up, wash as best I can and then wait for dh.

Dh should be here in 45 minutes.

One of the great things about only having one car is we now always back into the garage. Don't know how many times I nearly hit, or hit things coming out of the garage backwards and backing into the turning area (we always drive straight out of the long driveway.) Took out the basketball net twice, hit dd's car once and scared myself when there was a kid on the driveway when I glanced one day. With one car, it is easy to back into the double garage.
