Hello, villagers ~
Celebrating that I get to see some of my family today.

My younger DSis has an annual summer party that she decorates in a Hawaiian luau theme, everyone dresses in wild colors and wears a lei. It's a pot luck supper and she provides soft drinks but everyone brings a cooler, too. The punch bowl gets to be dangerous as more people arrive and add rum and I don't know what all, so I usually try about half of a little glass when I first get there and then switch over to iced tea or water since I have a long drive home!
A bunch of family comes early in the party and we all have fun chatting and watching the little kids play. Then after 2-3 hours most of the family takes off to make room on the street for later arrivals to park.
Luckily DSis has wonderful neighbors and they all get along, plus she always invites all of them to the party, too, so she's never had a complaint about all the cars or noise. Actually I think it kind of turns into a block party, and DSis is good friends with several local police officers, so they swing through every now and then to make sure there aren't any problems.
DH refuses to go with me because he can't stand the crowd. Normally I would be uncomfortable with that many strangers, too. This party usually doesn't bother me, though ... I guess because it's DSis's annual luau and since I'm coming from out of town, nobody expects me to know very many people. I can make small talk with strangers in DSis's back yard, because there are always the little kids and DSis's flowers to admire, you know?
This is DSis's 14th annual luau, she pretty much has the preparations down to a routine. I'm going to try to go up early to help set up, because her newest granddaughters are toddlers now (3 of them!) and zoom around very quickly. I'm thinking an extra pair of eyes and hands for setting up tables, chairs, & decorations can't hurt.
