Name your Wednesday

Post by Lynlee »

Dd rang with dgds name tonight. Very sweet. They have bought new tiny things. I told dd what I had bought.

today
walked to mtg hall, got a lift home
washed a load
weeded a little
walked dog
caught up with dishes.

I am so sorry for the losses in Dee's community. I know many will be deeply affected.

Harriet - I often think when someone tells something thoughtlessly, it says more about them than who they were talking about. Dare I say - I think criticizing those affected by dementia is tempting fate. Many do it. They seem to have no understanding. Prayers of comfort for you, and the other grieving family.
Just begin.
Living this day, today
Take a reality check; Remember to breathe; Do what I am able to do.
Look for the good in all.

Yay, Kathryn's driving again. Progress slow but sure. Dh was talking yesterday about how much longer this healing progression is this time. I reminded him that when he went back into the hospital he was a hair's breadth away from having a stroke. Was helping him realize that the recuperating he's doing now is so much further ahead and better than it would be were he recovering from that stroke. You're right, Harriet, his progression will be more perceivable once this horrendous heat dissipates.

Supposed to be 92 today -official heat wave.

Maybe I'm just not ready for decisions.I believe that to be true, Harriet. Though you've walked this path before I'm sure you don't think it can be shortened just because you've been here before. Let yourself heal too.

DD, DGS8, dh and I are heading out this morning to an animal farm (Hidden Valley, NY). Going to see the wind farms on the way. Just hoping it doesn't prove to be too much for any of us.

Time to s2s, breakfast, etc. 9am will be here before I know it.

Laundry discussion: I used to do laundry every day too -when we were raising 5 kids. Now I usually only do 1 load at a time -when either the "lights" or the "coloreds" build up enough for a full load. Part of that stinginess is the fact that doing laundry at the 'laundromat' here at the campground is so expensive. At least it seems so to me. About $3.00 a load. We have enough 'whites' that I can usually extend it to about 10 days.

One sad moment from yesterday's accident. A mother came to the scene and said, "I have 2 children and I'm sure they're both in that car". Unfortunately one of those children had died in the accident, plus the driver. Everyone else was ejected. One is in guarded condition -and as sad as it all is part of me hopes that one's not her dd. The other 2 were in 'satisfactory' condition. Pictures of the car were barely negligible as a vehicle. Could see tires and that was it. It is a horrible intersection -part of the problem is that vehicles coming from the north are coming over a rise & it's 55mph there. So often by the time you're in the intersection there's a vehicle coming on you. We try to avoid it as much as is possible.

By the time I got this posted, Lynlee already had, so simply deleted mine & posted over here.

Harriet, rant away btw. Rightly so!

Rough night.

I gave up at midnight and moved to the living room but the new couch is not as comfortable as the old one. Probably got 4 hours of solid sleep. Went back to bed at 6:00 but was out of bed at 7 because I couldn't sleep.

Today will be a long day. I have much to do and little brain with which to do it.

(((Kathryn)))

Harriet, it is apparent that your cousin's wife suffers from an acute case of foot in mouth disease. To make such rude, tacky comments at anytime is not right but just 5 days after his funeral and to you. She probably never had a second thought that the comments she made were wrong. For that, I think the appropriate southern saying applies, "bless her heart".

lynlee, I always enjoy your posts.

Dee, enjoy your day trip. Maybe your dhs slow recovery is to give him time to smell the roses, instead of working so hard.

Dd1 called last night. Her conference is going well. I enjoy our summer walks. Then school starts and our time together is limited, but I always know she will drop everything for us if need be.

Mentioned bikes to dh last night. He thought getting one was a good idea and mentioned getting him one too. Then he commented that they will just get dusty and not ridden like the last 2 bikes we had were. Dd1 needed a bike for gym while in jr. high, so we bought 2. We lived in a rural subdivision at the time. Then we moved to town and they didn't get ridden much because there were always tire or gear issues. They hung from the high ceiling in the garage at the other house and we sold them at the garage sale we had with dd2, before our moves. If I get a bike, I intend to ride it.

Dgd2 had gotten a F isher P rice red and yellow car for her 1st birthday. Sunday they noticed it was missing. It had been on their back deck. Dgd2 thought it had blown away like the trampoline. Dsonil had an air compressor hose and a boot dryer missing also. Dd2 says there goes the theory that living in a gated community is safe from theft. :o

Well I need to mow but think I will check in with dm before I do. I have gotten where too many days go by between phone calls, since the days fly by.

What a horrible accident, Dee. Will be in my thoughts.

Kathryn, was it pain or just couldn't sleep?

Lynlee, congrats on the new little one with a new name. Last night I "met" the new neighbor family - they moved in and had a baby in the space of about 2 weeks. I haven't viisted or gone over there because I'm sure she is exhausted. Beautiful baby girl and so tiny...hard to remember how tiny new babies are. Need to make a casserole soon....

Just a mention that we are loving this neighborhood. Two new babies last summer, I think, and will be two this summer with another due in the winter. Yet there are older people - some older than us even.

I slept in this morning until a little past nine a.m. I was up for maybe 30 minutes around 4:30 and was surprised to sleep so long once I got back to sleep.

Just realized I need to take recycling out to the street, if they haven't come through already....then I need to walk ddogs before it gets hotter. High of 92 here, not as hot as it could be!

Waiting for dm to call back. Someone called her on her cell phone.

I woke up at 3 am for a potty break and I realized that my lips were numb. Took my bs and it was 45. :o  :? So I had a large snack. When I woke up this am it was 301, but at least I woke up. I always end up overcompensating after a low.

Twins: just the heat. Couldn't get comfortable. The upstairs has 'lost it' in that despite the a/c running all the time, it is getting two degrees hotter each day. Last night the temperature went up 2 degrees in the bedroom from 9 to 10:30, despite there being no sunlight outside. So that's a sign that heat is working its way through the insulated walls and all the furniture inside the room is absorbing the heat during the day and releasing it at night. The main level of the house is mid 70's so I might just put out an air mattress tonight and sleep on that since the couch wasn't comfortable.

I'm feeling miserable today in my abdomen but not sure if it isn't just nerves. This is the first time I have to 'work' since getting sick and I don't feel prepared. It is on of the 2 hours surveys. At least it is in person so I can control the speed we go through the questions. On the other hand, it is over an hour's drive in each direction. Will take major painkillers with me just in case (dh is driving me.)

Just startled dh. He fell asleep sitting at the breakfast bar! (Guess he had a lousy night too - his tossing and turning was what finally drove me from my bed.)

BTW: weight was steady yesterday and up two pounds today. So the unexplained weight loss is over. And unexplained weight gain may be returning.

Dinner is started in the crock pot (which is in the garage to keep heat out of the house) and the first load of laundry is on the line, second in the washer.

Don't know if those of you who live in the desert and other very hot places suffer from this, but up here people get very 'stupid' during heat waves because we aren't used to the extended heat.

It is one of those days. .. .hot, yes. And packed with too many things to do. This is supposed to be my down week. . .Ha!

No time to cuops now.

Done:
x dogs out to potty - we take Maia to the po*p pen, trying to train her to go there exclusively
x fed ddogs
x medicated ears of both dogs
x 2 phone calls from dfriend B; we're still meeting downtown for lunch, even though the art fairs are starting today. It is a zoo!!
x dw and drainer unloaded
x s2s
x hair styled
x 2 emails sent
x quiet study time

I need to leave pronto to meet dfriend. I'm planning on bringing a copy of my resume and stopping by the language school where I sent one, just to find out more about their program. They were not advertising; I sent them a resume blind.

So much to do, but I'll post later after downtown trip.

Before I go:
- teeth and face
- change clothes
- print out copy of resume (just in case)
- stop by ATM en route b/c they're taking cash (jacked up fees) in the parking garages.

Kathryn, at least with the rapid weight loss coming to a halt, you are assured that you aren't diabetic. I had went to a health fair at dhs work and had blood work on Friday. Starting that Sunday I lost 4 lbs. before receiving the test results on Thursday. With the weight loss and being constantly thirsty, I knew I was diabetic. I only told this to dh and my dfriend who is a nurse. They both said there is no way that I was a diabetic. In my heart, I knew they were wrong and prayed they were right. My bs was 351. Even then dh didn't believe it. The next day I called for an appt with my dr and couldn't get in for 26 days. On Monday I went to the walk-in clinic and my bs was 421. The nurse practitioner called that evening and told me in no uncertain terms that I was diabetic. Dh was right there when she told me and only then did he believe it. Well enough of that, but I was rather alarmed at your rapid weight loss. You sure don't need another health issue.

I have a mostly at home day today and need to be sure it doesn't slip away, especially with the late start this morning. I have a massage/body work at 2 today and that's it for appointments. Had emailed re a meeting to try to set up today or tomorrow but haven't heard back, so assuming that's not today. I am going to Nashville with dh on Friday - he will meet w a couple of clients and otherwise we'll relax.

I felt like I pushed yesterday to get a lot of things done so today and tomorrow could be quieter.

Issues continue with dmom - not checking BS and forgetting meds. It looks like she's forgotten twice this week. When she checked BS yesterday afternoon is was over 300 - don't remember the exact number, but she had only taken her morning meds a few minutes before taking it. Her next appt w doc is Aug 10 so I'll give them a heads up before the appointment.

Dfriend realtor called this morning to follow up on dsis' house. I'm waiting for xbil to move cars but may have to bring the dumpster in with the cars still there.

Frankly, my attention has been in the temple falling wall lately. The one joy there is that I finally have an excellent successor in place as president. I hate on one hand that he's stepping up before he felt ready, but he has been on the board several years and is very well respected in the community.

-breakfast :o
-meds, me and ddogs
-empty dishwasher
-clear kitchen counters
-start a lol of delicates

I tend to wash one load a day, unless I get behind and need both darks and bright colors. My summer wardrobe isn't extensive, so there are times I need the laundry to turn over. Since we're going away on Friday, should probably be sure that things are washed up this week.

Need to get myself organized for next two days to be productive as well.
