Dee ~ I've made it a habit to write my posts in Notepad (or whatever freebie word program is available on your pc) and then copy/paste into the posting window.

I know my Email program interferes, because it changes its ad content on a regular basis. That means inevitably if I have both the Email and this site open together (either in separate tabs or in totally separate windows), I will lose my post because of a timing issue with the Email program loading an ad. Or another site that includes ad content. Seems like the browser mixes in there sometimes, too, no matter which browser I use.

Therefore, it's just a lot easier to type in Notepad and then copy over. That also lets me make notes if I'm cuop through multiple pages.

I should say that it isn't a problem [typing directly into the post window here] if I'm just writing a couple of sentences. Unfortunately, as y'all know, I don't know any short stories ...

Quick post --- our afternoon thunderstorms are moving in quickly. No time to cuop or respond.

I'm having a quiet, lazy day here; just puttering. I consider puttering to be any quiet, slow and steady job I can do while talking to dh, listening to radio or keeping an eye on tv and working during commercials --- those quick jobs that are done in a few minutes.

Oh my goodness gracious - as dgd16H used to say when she was little. The thunder is shaking the house in continual bursts......bbl

Has everyone seen the Google page today? It's an animated & musical doodle for Claude Debussy.

Booksaver: That postcard sounds perfect!

I'm not making good progress here. The nice part of being alone in this building is I can practice the sermon aloud to check timing. Unfortunately, I was checking what I had and used my countdown time (from 15:00). When I saw I had 9:10 I was thrilled, forgetting that meant 5:50 of sermon! I added a bit more, went to time the 'finished' but obviously shy of words product and discovered my mistake. Ever hopeful, I checked and only have 7:15. I need 10:00 for the first service. I'm giving up and hoping some brilliant plan will hit me on the way home. On the bright side, it is the perfect length for the retirement home! So one of the two is basically done.

We had a storm here also - poor DMacs has been going nuts. We've also had workmen in and out making noise and talking so it's been really hard to get things done...

-call about 401(k) rollover
-two additional emails to bookkeeper for religious school and temple
-look at email re: genealogy assn and see what needs to be done, will probably have to be done during biz hours tomorrow
-email temple secretary about proving a listing of members to nat'l org

All that is done, plus a couple more. Two days left, some of the other stuff is on the run. I need to call Paypal for the family genealogy assn, but would prefer to do it when the house doesn't have workers here since I need to give them the info so I can access the account.

Dh and I are going out for dinner once painters are done. I'm going to feed dogs, start a lol, and make the bed. Oooooh, dcleaning lady will be here again in the a.m.

Hi everyone! Indi would have loved this puttering thread :) .

For me, puttering is most similar to what Harmony, Harriet & Cowinkie said. The one thing all my puttering tasks have in common is that they are usually not scheduled & not physically demanding. Many are erasing footprints, both mine & dh's, & those often have to do with mail & other paperwork left on the kitchen table & countertops. Dh also likes lots of visual reminders instead of lists so for example if he runs out of vitamins he'll leave the empty bottle out, or if he needs to return something to a store he'll leave it on the counter by the door for days. Those things have to have a time limit, or else they become part of the decor ;) .

Some things are pet related --pick up & put away dog toys, clean nose prints off the window, sticky roll the chair cushion dcat has been sleeping on (& then give him a quick brushing :) ).

Some things are inventory related, like refilling tp in the bathrooms, softsoap in the dispensers, sugar in the sugar bowl, dry pet food into their containers upstairs (we keep the big bags in the basement).

Sometimes it is leftover tasks from the previous day that only take a few minutes to complete, like folding & putting away the last load of laundry, or putting away groceries that didn't get put away when the cold stuff was.

Some puttering tasks are things that will make that day run more smoothly, like getting a jump on dinner prep in the morning. I'm always so glad when it's time to start dinner & I've already mixed, chopped, or assembled part of the meal. Or unloading the dishwasher so that I can then deal with the dishes we used & left out while it was running. Or taking the kitchen garbage out to the can because it's full, & quickly adding the contents of both bathroom garbage cans to the bag.

But of course my favorite is fun puttering -- taking ddog out for a stroll in the yard on a nice day, reading a magazine or browsing through a catalog, researching something online, making lists & plans for house projects, menus, future vacations, crafts I want to do, etc.

Oh, & visiting our village!

Oh, BookSaver, thank you. That was absolutely beautiful and engaging, with little mysteries, and I would have missed it.

Sunny, stay safe! (yikes)

BookSaver, hmmm... ... didn't realize you had time to wait on an online order. That gave you selection.

Speaking of packages, we continue to get them re: our big dishwasher makeover scheduled for Sept 3. Neither local small-business repairman I called can think of any way this problem did not come about during the manufacturing process. Both say impossible otherwise. Told the first deliveryman, who brought the first 3 parts packages, what they were. He became animated and said the same thing is happening to him, only on a Sam sung that cost him $1,000, and which he has now decided is a lemon. Both of us were able to say our previous dishwashers had long lives with no repair.

Twins' Mom, I would think your dbro should hurry and apply?

We went on a school supply run and found 3-rings, composition, pencils. Also one pair jeans and a patterned tank that should both expand her wardrobe a little. Oh, a goose-neck lamp. Ya'll may remember I like her to limit blue light (computer, overhead, tv) in the late evening for a better night's sleep, and the lamp can hold a yellow/orange light (or possibly a bug light) that won't be a problem as she gets ready for bed. We had a lamp last year that was okay but it was cheap and I felt it was getting awfully hot with even short use. The glasses that give this same benefit are getting cheaper, so we may invest in them later.

Good afternoon. I did not call the state fair people, instead someone called me about the feral cat situation I am working on. Nothing dreadful, they just wanted to know how the process would work. Then an animal org person called to check on foster kitten Levity. We decided that he needs another vet trip, so authorization forms are being sent. I have dinner with a friend at 630, so I will go home and do a few things then go there. I was not able to get the music on the google doodle, don't know why. I am about to email a copy of my July paystub home, then follow it there.

kathryn: I have never been in a church where people were upset about a sermon that was too short! When our pastor runs short, he tells us we can beat the Baptists to lunch.
