Can't wait to hear about dd15's first day, Harriet! Dd17 has math last. Not her favorite class so not great for her. Dd15's schedule is currently missing, but I think symphony band is the last hour for her, a nice way to end the day.

It is 84 outside and I can hear the cicadas, so it feels like the late summer day it is. I'm not sure it will get up to 90 after all.

A.m. routine is finally done. I've done a little bit of puttering, have sent email to dfriend, church children's programs director. Menu plan and groc. list are complete, so I'm off to the groc. store now.

Good morning! The weekend went well, I had DD11 and she had to accompany me on 3 outings that were not of her choice, but she did pretty well. Friday, we went to a dinner with some church friends. She was ok until the band started, too loud, but by that time, it was only a matter of paying the bill and leaving. Saturday, we went to the survival expo and she felted a snake, made a bow, and shot at Cruella d'Vil, who was trying to kill baby dragons. We ate Chinese then went to a pre-memorial service gathering downtown. I am SO glad she is walking better, I could not have carried her from parking to the gathering! I let her take books to entertain herself, and she met a teacher who is going to email us a reading list of things she thinks DD will like.

Sunday, was the memorial service itself, and she was very bored, but did ok. We did not get lunch until 2:00 and we were both ravenous! Then we went to the amusement park and tried out their 'water mania' section. Very fun. Then we put on dry clothes and rode some rides and played a fishing game for a prize. (This game is great, because you always get something. The default is a small stuffed animal, the bonus is a large one. DD knows to count on the small prize and in this case, she said if she got the large prize, she would ask for the small instead.)

After DD left, I attacked some weeds, did a small amount of box work, planned meals, and did a massive car clean out. Tonight is: drive across town for cat food, get power cord for radio, buy groceries, cook, more box work, LOL, look for crochet pattern for a quiver for arrows, and put away fabric.

I am still not sure which cat has (had?) the UTI, the problem has not recurred. I got an email about a stray cat. I know I can get it spayed or neutered, but we are short of foster homes.

Dd17 has 2 (different) church friends here, and they are chatting in the living room, so I'm trying not to go in there. I'll be glad when she won't be bringing friends over all the time. She has very nice friends, I'm just craving a quiet house by myself.

- DPCs. . .
- start prepping for supper: juice lemons, cut up and brown chicken, grate parmesan?

I'd like to leave around 4:30 for my jog. I'm not sure if dh is on board with that so we have to go separately.

Now, I'm going to change clothes and meet him for a jog. Dinner prep will happen afterward, but dh will be here and he is great help in the kitchen.

No idea what is going on with my internet and being able to get to our site. I'm here now at least for the moment. I'll try to post quickly.

Took dh to rehab this morning. His cardiac nurse took him to a room to talk with him after. Obviously something is not right even yet. She is writing a letter to dh's cardiologist, his pulmonologist and his GP. Hoping that somehow they can figure out what's happening. He gets quite light headed and can't breathe.

Came home, and his GP's office called -we had been about 3/4 of the way there. They needed him to come in to sign a release form for an extension of his disability claim. He will have a chest x-ray Wednesday, down from the cardiac rehab. I'm almost hoping that shows something. Praying for some good answers here.

DBIL/DSIL will be here in about 3 days. Guess they went to dd's house (in FL) Saturday -gave her the $2,000 in cash that he plans to give each of his nieces and nephews.

Dee, I'm thinking of you and your DH. I hope they get to the bottom of this and he heals, gets stronger, and healthier soon.

((Dee and Mr. DeeClutter)) How frustrating. Happy for both your dbil/dsil and your dd that this pleasant moment comes for them. That's so nice, to be able to give gifts.

Awww, I wish I had a better school report, but I have a sad teen on my hands so far.

helia, dd continues to have confusion about her schedule. There is general confusion about her geometry class first period, where only 7 students who appeared in the class were supposed to be taking geometry. Something went wrong with the computer scheduling, and this teacher says she's afraid she's about to be told she'll teach the majority in a different math instead, and the 7 (including dd) will be dispersed to other teachers, maybe other times. I don't think I'll jump into a schedule-change demand on this yet, since I assume guidance counselors already see the problem and are trying. However, students have been told that a change in an academic class can spin the entire schedule.

Second period is engineering and the teacher said he expects the students to use their geometry skills a lot. Everyone raised their hands and said that as sophomores, they were just getting started on geometry now (or next semester), had not yet had it as a prerequisite. His answer was, "learn fast". Hmmm... ... Graphic design teacher got right into a project to design something with the concept, "graffiti" - interesting. English seems straightforward, dd says, and they'll use the same online posting program from last year, so she's familiar with that. Tomorrow she gets her first hint at whether she will have electives she expects, or if everything will change to accommodate the math glitch.

As far as finding friends in this "year-of-the-moving-van" , they seem to be in short supply. At least no "mean girl" situations in any of her classes, so that's good news. All it takes is one or two new friends (or newly-discovered-through-schedule-change), of course, and things will likely improve. During our room redo we found an old copy of her K report card, and teacher had written that dd was "a spontaneous and outgoing child". (I remember my mother quietly telling me that was teacher-speak for a chatty child who needed to listen more!) Anyway, I made dd reread that and admit she could probably find someone to be a friend!

There's a small success for me today, in my attempt to encourage the African Violet that came to me as a part of a memorial bouquet from a cousin. Today I fed it again and trimmed away all spent stalks, thinking I'd be doing without color a while. But hidden deep under the leaves were two brand new clusters of bloom about to peek out. I was able to show them (sideways, pointing) to ds while he was here, something he remembered I used to do all the time when I had several blooming in the window, years ago. It was amusing to get him to squint into the leaf-shadows again and acknowledge blooms, like he used to have to do! How many times has that boy had to pretend he was interested in windowsill pots! LOL Nice that he remembered, though. Happy my feeding seems to be doing the trick - this food is for tomatoes! But it has the right composition.

Oh, I mustn't neglect to tell that my green-eyed boy and I were playing happily when Grandpa came home and stole the show! Sigh! But I was tired so I gave up some time without much fuss. We are trying to learn to call Tobias. We do not call, "CAAAAAAT!", but "kitty, kitty, kitty". This child cleans under furniture more than any I've kept - problem is, at Grandma's house he tends to find things you don't believe are there! I was insistent that there was absolutely nothing to be found and he came up with a stuffed pig, two cat toys (I know - ewwww!) and some quarters. We enjoyed a feast of yogurt and Cheerios. We do not approve of bananas, yuck.

Ds mowed the whole yard for me, so that was baby-sitting well spent.

I was checking in earlier when dh told me supper was ready and then we had a rain shower. At first it was just rain without lightning - just as the local weatherman said. I laughed when the thunder started; sometimes they just get it wrong!

Aww Harriet, love those fun times with dgs. And so nice for your ds to mow grass!

Hoping OKay is feeling better. Also Mr. MT, hope you heal quickly!

Elizabeth, sounds like your dd is adjusting to outside situations better.

Nancy, it's good that you now have a new tablet that you can enjoy!

I'm thinking of Harmony also, and hoping her new med is working properly and she is feeling better!

Schools...I just got a phone call from dgd12. She will be playing drums in her band this year. This is the dgd who has sight problems and they figured it would be the easiest for her to learn and be able to play on down the road if she should lose more sight. Dgd16K talked to me also and said she liked all her teachers this year; has one teacher from last year and all the rest new. She has all honors classes except chorus and color guard. We saw dfam#2 yesterday and dgd11 (first yr. of middle sch.) said she will be playing tuba and bagpipes this year for band. Middle schoolers do not march, so won't have to carry the tuba on the field.

One of the news articles on our local news this afternoon was about a new university being built in Lakeland, called Florida Polytechnic Univ. It will be ready for the August 2014 school year and as an incentive they are offering enrolling freshman full tuition of $18,000+ to cover the first three years and half of the fourth year tuition. http://floridapolytechnic.org/news/flor ... -students/ They also said there would be tuition help for grad studies and transfers from other schools. What a great opportunity for someone!

I liked your poem Harriet! Going along with our theme for the day I hurried through my morning routine, then spent a few minutes in each room as needed, from pick up/put away to dusting etc. Mondays are my easy day since house is mostly clean from the weekend.
