WEDNESDAY WRANGLIN'

Post by DeeClutter »

What are you trying to 'wrangle' this morning? Now that I've started this it's time to leave for rehab. BBL

Have a good day everyone. At least I have my dishes done before I'm out the door. Have to wrangle a load or two of laundry done today -that is if machines are working. :| Think dcampowner is thinking of putting in new and his own machines next year. We can hope.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

GL Dee and DH - and thanks for opening.

My washing - bedding changed to summer cotton last night - is on the line still. I'll bag flannellette sheets up with warm summer like sun in the morning..
Started on the cobblerpegs (1/4" long seed sticks with hooks on the end) my ddog has collected. The worst is his tail. It will take a few goes to get them all out I know.
A good result from screening clinic I hope. Treatment for other injuries in neck and T back. My fingers are crossed the physio is helpful.
Just begin.
Living this day, today
Take a reality check; Remember to breathe; Do what I am able to do.
Look for the good in all.

I'm continuing to wrangle some order into my life.

Yesterday was a good day for me professionally wise. My volunteering to help get the meeting materials was both fun and made me a new friend. I also got some questions answered and continue to have a good conduit to the Presbytery minister.

I was able to come home between the two after returning the defective computer bag to Costco. I had bought myself this gorgeous purse/laptop bag but the zipper was defective so returned it. It was a struggle between want and my policy of not buying new and I finally gave in to the want so I'd look chic and professional when I took my laptop places. Of course, there were none left 6 days later so it was a return not an exchange and I'm back to using my free bags from conferences. These are very functional, just not chic. Sigh....

Had a nap at home for a very long time then headed out for the dinner and meeting. Dinner was excellent. I was given a 'newbie' to keep company through the night and we also did small-group work where I contributed. The meeting was about budget & money matters and was extremely well handled and, dare I say it, fun. Best of all, I got a number of connections made with people about the survey and was invited to join the 'clergy cluster' meetings (area clergy meet once a month for devotions, study and support.) I can't make the first meeting but I'm thrilled at the invitation and will attend other meetings. It is both a continuing ed opportunity and a chance to get better known to be able to preach at other churches in the area (although I've already been to 3 out of 5 of the churches in this cluster.)

Finished up the bulletin when I got home and will finish the service today (three prayers to write.) Hopefully I'll get to work on the sermon as well.

I'm also hoping to work on ds's room in the basement (I'm responsible for storing/decluttering the remaining things there and I want to clean it) and my parcel is ready to be picked up in NY so a border run is on my to-do list. That will take at least 90 minutes out of my day. Don't know if dh can take the time away from work to come with me. It is a beautiful fall day, perfect for a drive.

So ds, as you know, is in Australia. At his going away party, everyone was to write out 3x5 cards of things he's to do while there. He needs to take a picture of the card and some aspect of the activity in the same shot. In total there are 90 things he is to do before returning to Canada (although a few can be combined.)

Some are generic (like my "Eat a tim-tam"), others are more specific (like go to a certain bar and order a certain drink.) One was date specific, for this week in Sydney "to participate in a once in a lifetime event". Turns out it is the International Fleet Review, celebrating 100th anniversary of the Australian navy entering Sydney harbour and the harbour is full of ships, not just the Australian navy but naval vessels from around the world and a tall ships gathering as well. On his own, he already stumbled across this by accident and has taken shots but didn't have the card with him.

Now he's in orientation with a group of other backpackers and they went out clubbing the other night, ending up in a club with a group of British sailors from the HMS Daring and he has a shot of his female group members wearing the sailor caps. I've appealed to the card writer that, even though the card isn't in the shot, it should count as proof that he is experiencing this event since he's been hanging out with sailors from it. Of course, in Sydney right now it is pretty hard not to bump into some of the 8000 sailors, they are all over the place (and part of the reason he had trouble finding a place to stay over the weekend.)

As his mom it is great to see him having fun with new friends. On the other hand, as him mom I wasn't thrilled with him being out clubbing until 3 a.m., especially when he had a 9 a.m. start time the next morning!

Need to wrangle temple biz today as I have a board meeting to run tonight. I asked advice yesterday from one of our old rabbis and from a Facebook group of temple presidents who went to a seminar in April 2012 together. Several issues coming up and should do a separate OMM list for all that crowding my mind today. Expecting an always-disgruntled congregant tonight at meeting and I've determined that I will allow her to speak for 4 minutes, then move on because the board has no obligation to discuss or act upon her concerns. In one case, she needs to be going through a committee chair, in the other case, I am hoping to convince the rabbi to change his mind on the issue, but I do want him to be able to "save face" without a public discussion that might embarrass him.

Need to get busy as all I've done is to have coffee and read the paper, and a bit of online surfing.

-breakfast
-walk the ddogs
-meds/vitamins me + ddogs
-take out recycling
-hang delicates to dry

Good morning, villagers ~

Thankfully I don't have to go anywhere today. Making final decisions and packing.

2 or 3 loads of laundry to do but the only urgent one includes my comfy jeans. The others can wait until I get back Sunday evening if I don't get around to them today.

Technically our rental of the camping lodge for the sewing retreat starts at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon. I've been told that the building will be unlocked in the morning so I want to try to get there early to set up tables. I need to stop for a few last-minute groceries on the way out of town.

I did not get the new sewing machine yesterday. My friend gave me a very nice demonstration and it's a great machine. However, from my research online and conversation with the local dealer, I decided that her price is too high for me. If I really needed a new machine, I could buy an equivalent model brand new with full warranty from the local dealer for just a little more cash.

But the main thing is that I don't need a new machine. I still like my old one and it still works great. The new one does things faster (has a needle threader, changes stitches instantly with a button rather than having to move dials, etc.) and it has some additional decorative stitches that my old one won't do. Those are luxuries, though. Very nice to have, but right now I don't feel like I can budget that much extra cash for luxuries that don't involve DH.

So I made an offer of what I felt I could comfortably pay right now, and encouraged her to wait a couple weeks to see if she'll get a better offer. She sounded like she would have taken my offer right away, but when she talked to her husband he wanted to wait. I'm totally fine with waiting.

If I had brought home the new machine yesterday, I would have spent all of the sewing retreat learning how to use it instead of finishing any projects. I want to finish projects, I'm tired of having bags of pieces sitting around.

Booksaver Sounds like you made the best decision about the machine. Your comment about spending the retreat learning the new machine instead of finishing projects made me wonder if we sometimes go and get some new 'tool' as an excuse to put off doing something that we have to do? Like thinking buying a new smart phone or tablet will suddenly make our time management issues go away (instead of actually buckling down and getting to work?!)

I haven't accomplished much since my last post but did have a conversation with my senior friend. I have eaten breakfast and washed up yesterday's and this morning's dishes (dh was too busy last night working to do up his dishes from the day - I was out all day.)

Need to buckle down here. Will try and finish the bulletin then spend 45 minutes in ds's room.

Bookie, I also agree on the sewing machine since you are happy with the one you have! I've always felt like I would enjoy sewing more if I had a better machine.

I've done everything except breakfast, and I'll eat that as I ponder the next round.

-call dmom's dr office to ask about bringing her in for bloodwork and getting flu shot tomorrow - I don't think I need an appointment
-clear kitchen counters and kitchen table
-quick s2s
-review and print f/s for board meeting tonight (sigh, this s/b treasurer's job but he's MIA)
-make the bed

Have returned from rehab, stopped at T Horton's & got drinks and bagels. Lunch done -albeit a tad early. So that wranglin' hurdle is done. Told dh that actually it's just "Tim's" now as we're on a 'first name basis" after stopping there so much this year (after rehab stints).

Just asked ddil about dgs14's arm. They put his arm in a cast but are closely monitoring it -both his radius & ulna (which are the 2 main bones running up the arm and control how we maneuver their positioning) are broken clear through. The ulna is the worrisome one as they're not sure it will stay put and will quite unsurprisingly probably need surgery. He can't do ANYTHING with it right now as it's very fragile. Know he's having a hard time thinking about sitting everything out this fall.

I'm going up and doing a lol in a few. Dh said they came to fix the washers & dryers the other day so hoping they all work now.

Stopped at our storage unit & picked up one small suitcase for this weekend. Only plan to stay 1 night so it should be way more than enough.

Off I go to wrangle that laundry.
