Tuesday never Too late

Was so tired this afternoon. And realized more things i need to do, things falling through the cracks. Trying not to feel overwhelmed here. . .

During dd15's oboe lesson, I checked online bills and started a book my student mentoree just finished and found very significant. I've read it before as have many of you here, I bet. . .. . Till We Have Faces by CS Lewis. It's been a long time since I last read it, so I'm hoping to reread it so I can share/discuss with mentoree next week. Dd15 and I had a pleasant dinner date at a favorite Vietnamese restaurant. In the middle of dinner, who should walk in, but -- dh and dd18! They were on their dinner date. We giggled a lot over that.

All 3 girls have tests tomorrow: GG - history; dd15 - math; dd18 - art history (part of humanities class). They are all intently studying. Dh is out at church elders' meeting.

I think tonight I'll just concentrate on getting caught up with laundry. And maybe also phone calls; I need 2 moms to work in the nursery Th. morning since 2 of our workers will be absent. We ask the moms to sign up for one week fall semester, so I have 3 names to start with. Two of them have babies in the nursery; I don't know if that means they'd like to be in there with them or they'd prefer not to be. We'll find out!! Maybe I'll get my cards organized too. And I need to prep some cards for the mail; lots of little things I need to do. I could always go to the gym; I'm really falling off the exercise wagon here.

OR. . . . I could just sit here and read the above mentioned bllk.

Before I make any big decisions, I think I'll finish my cup of tea.

What I thought would take 30 minutes turned into a 3 hour outing. I intended to take LO to basketball game for about 30 minutes. I just wanted to let him see basketball being played. About the time we were leaving the house, DH came home and decided to go with us. We enjoyed ourselves so much (visiting with friends) that we ended up staying for both games.

Been doing a quick CUOP.

Our several days of fog/clouds turned to sunshine! I napped this a.m. (nausea) and then s2s, folded laundry, took it easy. DH went to town to run errands.
I worked on a dfriend's letter, helped put groceries away when DH returned, and then suggested we celebrate his b-day early, since the KFC special may not still be going by the 27th. So we celebrated his deceased Ddad's b-day today. We ate early, are stuffed, and had cake later. (I didn't "need" it.)

There's a logger logging Maple trees behind our property, (on somebody else s' parcel) he's loud, lots of sawing and booms when the beautiful Maples fall. Hope it won't continue too long, and he met us, letting us know he'd be out there; even had photocopies from the country who was who and where the lines were, said not to worry. He'll stay on his client's side. (It's still a "concern".)

Got my letter done, next I'll do DD's letter and mailer for her and dgrson-turning 17, to go out. I hope for sunshine again tomorrow!!

Sometimes it is too late, to get a story in by the deadline because I get so busy with other things, I just cannot get them ALL in, so I shoot for 1 - 3 each month and leave the ideas for the following year. So in a WAY, it's never too late, because I can use the story for another year.

It's too late for me to start college as a freshman (61.5 yrs.) and major in medical journalism, as my tests said I should, when I was a Senior in H. S.; Dmom had a fit, said they're a dime a dozen and I'd never amount to anything, like my (divorced-from-her-) father, who had a vanity published book of Haiku poems; Divorced when I was 1, hence the reason writers were losers. I don't believe writers are, for I'm a writer and I'm NOT.

I still followed my dream, in 2005, and started to write professionally, thinking, after my major life-changing surgery, "IT'S NEVER TOO LATE!!!!" So went for it, lost a few friends, (due to my time being taken up with writing/correspondence classes) and I went out of the box, for their needs. But I'm happy with myself, proud to help DH out with supplementing income with his small pension and S.S. So it happened late for me, but NOT too late. ♥ I loved the open-upper today because, sometimes it can be too late for some things, but not for others or we can "tweak" things and get it done still, only in a different way. (If you know what I mean.) I edited this, so it sounds better.

I'm rambling, I'm sorry! It's been a long day. We had sunshine and it's gone to my brain.

Toured the house with dsil and he added a couple of items to their list. He also went through two boxes of stuff ds was tossing and took items. He wants more bookcases than we have to offer. Its too bad but that's the way things go. Dd is having a few second thoughts about furniture she put on the list. She wants it but doesn't want to clutter her fresh start decor (remember they left most everything behind) with things from here. Understandable.

My music friend phoned. First call since she got the word that she'll have to start addiction counseling. She hasn't started yet and has put it off for another 2 weeks. Hopefully her painkillers won't run out before then. I had to cut her off because dsil needed me so I'm hoping she'll call again tomorrow.

Kitchen is cleaned up. Bert and Ernie were running (dd needed them) and now I'll run the dishwasher. Dh is still on his conference call. It isn't going well.

Fluffy (the snake) will continue to travel with them because she needs feeding over the weekend. Dh was happy to do it and to let her out each day for a stretch but dd would rather keep her with them. She gets let out in bathtubs (with plugs in) for her stretch since it is easy to clean up after if she poops. Dd is so anal about things being cleaned I have no problem letting dd do this at my house since I know she'll over clean the tub after.

I wish I could report more TaDas. Beyond dailies, I did get our own household's Desk Day done today. I got dd to her dentist appt. in such a way that she didn't miss any school, yet we made it back home from the big city just ahead of the wave of rush-hour traffic, which was a feat of homemaker's calendar/appt engineering for sure. Frankly, though, this is still just making it from day to day, not much progress. I still feel I'm falling behind, with dd33's family arriving Friday with huge weekend plans that will have me walking until I drop.

Tomorrow night I attend a play with dd at her school. Somehow, I need to visit my colorist in the last half of the week without letting that interfere with all the work of getting ready.

I did not read my book. I did not make phone calls either. I toodled around on this machine a bit. Then, I updated laundry, folded another load, started another load in washer, put away a lot of clean clothes. Load #5 is now in the dryer. I am now caught up with clothing!! Towels and bedding - there is still a huge backlog. Tomorrow I'll hopefully tackle that. I also emptied most of the garbage cans in the house(I forgot about the laundry room and dd15's room) and put the garbage and compost bins at the curb. I also washed out the garbage can in the computer room; it was kind of gross for some reason. The girls are in charge of the recycling; predictably, dd15 did her chore. Dd18 did not. So that bin will not get to the curb tonight, which is OK; it will not be even half full. It's not great from a "keep up with your chores" point of view though.

Two girls have gone to bed; GG is still up, but I think she is done studying. I wouldn't be surprised if dd18 studied more in bed with a flashlight.

I'm going to crate the dogs and go to bed. ---And dh is home!

Helping dfriend this morning took hours longer than I expected, well into the afternoon, but we had a nice lunch and caught up on a lot of news.

More errands on the way home resulted in not enough time before supper to do much of anything.

I've been trying to do a few things this evening but used up all my energy earlier in the day. I did manage to take the new sewing machine out of the box and I started reading the manual. I was looking at the decorative stitches, those will be fun to play with.

I've been invited to coffee with a member of the library group first thing in the morning. My first impulse was to decline because I really wanted to stay home all day tomorrow and dig into the house without interruptions. Second thought was that I appreciate her effort to reach out in friendship. Even though 8 a.m. sounds really early to me for being sociable, I'll give it a try. This is the person who is going to loan her apron collection to display at the library group's cookbook sale. We have very little in common, other than the library, but she recently retired and is readjusting to a new daily schedule.

I think the only way to have a hope of getting out of the house in time, though, is not to turn on the computer until after I come back home.

You will find a post with just test from me every once in awhile. Then if it posts - I will go back and edit it with what I want to say. That is better than typing a long post and not have it post. Does that make sense?

Anyway - in the part of Never too Late - it is too late for me to remind myself that pulling a tote out from under the bed in the MH can cause a muscle strain in the back. I have spent most of yesterday and today in my big chair with ice on my back while taking pain pills. It is slowly coming out of it but I have to be VERY careful on how I move.

I have one cupboard from the MH emptied and put away in the house - mostly canned foods and dry good.

DH brought in the dirty clothes and I have 2 loads washed and dried and 1/2 of the first load folded.

The bathroom is now decorated but the cabinets are not restocked from the big box that is still siting in my bedroom.

I am still not too happy about the bathroom. A lot of the tile decorations is not like I want - but too late to do anything about it. The bench slopes to the back by over 1/4 inch. That's a lot of water to be setting against the wall. I use a squeegee to get it off after the shower - but it sits there the whole time I'm showering.

Also the temp on the shower control is set way too low. It is like taking a cold shower to me. We have the instructions but can't find where the Allen wrench goes into to take the control apart.

Oh! and while I'm whining - my satellite TV keeps breaking up and it took a 50 minute phone call to get them to tell me they will send out a tech on Oct. 31. At least I went up to the third tier and they are doing it at no cost.

Other than that - the weather is beautiful and it is very good to see old friends.
