Good afternoon everyone! I am enjoying my cube steak lunch with EXTRA gravy. (Last time, I didn't make enough gravy, so I definitely overcompensated this time). Unfortunately, last night, I did almost nothing. I did get the guest bathroom cleaned before my friend came to see the kitten. We don't know if the kitten remembered her, but if he did it was not pleasantly. Although she rescued him from a not so good situation, he either forgot her or saw her as the evil person who tricked him into a trap, took him away from the only home he had ever known (under a shed, he was a stray becoming feral), then dumped him and the trap onto a stranger's porch (mine). It was a long time before he allowed her to touch him and he was not entirely trusting. At least he didn't scratch or bite her. We are going to get together again and reintroduce her. She helped me get some Halloween bins into the shed.

One DPC done: Christmas pet sitting is arranged. Tonight is Girls' Night Out with DD11, so I will be eating Chinese. Not sure where she will want to go, but it is not likely she will have homework.

One more day until I get to meet Kathryn IRL!

So much stuff I need to do tonight. Bleah.

I had too much (fatty food) to eat for lunch and am feeling slightly ill. I think the baked Lays before contributed because all I had was a burger and I gave dh 1/3 of it. It tasted great but I'm regretting it now. Which seems odd since I managed a fair bit of fried stuff in OK but a burger sets me off again. Duly noted.

Back from nursing home visit w/dh & ds (and dgs). One of ds’s monthly nursing home/singing visits. DGS & I spent our time walking the halls back and forth w/him in the stroller, b/c he just gets fussy fussy fussy if he has to sit still. Am I spoiling him to walk him around when he’s like that? There doesn’t seem much choice when you cannot talk and reason to a baby. It’s either let him scream in the stroller or my lap, OR let him walk around and touch EVERYTHING & EVERYBODY… OR push the stroller around. Of course, I could just stay at home with him – but those older people just LOVE to see him, and he did clap his hands, every time everyone else clapped for the music, LOL.

Those tickets I’m not supposed to think about till Valentine’s Day, Booksaver… well… I’m not thinking about them… but THEY ARRIVED TODAY!!!! HAPPY DANCE -- HAPPY DANCE!!! I can’t believe I’m acting just like I was 13 again. It feels good to do something nice for myself for a change. And dh can take it or leave it; if dmom wants to go, he’d much rather let her go than have her disappointed when it’s just not that big a deal to him. I’d be the same way if the tables were turned and his ddad could accompany him to something that meant a lot to both of them, and meant very little to me. Even though I’d much rather share the occasion w/dh… IF dmom decides to go, it will be something I’ll forever be glad I shared with her, too.

Waving to everyone… just about time to go see about dmil for the day… wishing dh would take me to R ed L obster for supper…but we ate pretty heavy for lunch… so I bet that’s out. We should stay home tonight anyway. I need to catch up on ironing and watch a couple movies I’ve recorded.

It's so hard when we can't control other people, isn't it? Just thinking about Lilac's dmom, OKay's dmom and dd and my sister.

We received good news tonight. It appears LO guardianship is going to be non-contested. Nothing is 100% sure, but it is looking likely.

TaDas today on errand day - An extra load of laundry. A trip out to buy 1 gift and 2 items for dd with coupons. I got one of them for free because of the coupon. Don't usually take so much time with coupons but these were worth it. Also errands through the bank drive-in and grocery shopping.

Lilac, that sounds a lot like a Hoarders episode I watched recently, in which the expert gave a speech to the assembled helpers listing the potential hazards he had identified, so they would understand why they had to wear suits. He named the exact ones you did, plus typhoid, of all things. The cousin who had come to help literally dropped her jaw and was seen with her mouth hanging open through several more seconds of the show. Yes, I do believe that house had to be "razed" as the municipal rep said.

It was the damage to the floor that was the problem. They thought they could handle it but as individual men picked things up, the item weight added to their own weight would become dangerous, and one man, carrying an interior door he'd removed to get into a room, just fell right through to the ground, so they gave up. They saved chests of drawers by handing them out a window, drawer by drawer. Thankfully, there were 2 work retirements that those people could access early to buy another house elsewhere. I assume they also used money from the lot, unless it cost more to pay the city back for razing and hauling away the debris than the land was worth.

Sick but smoking discussion - HRH's dear aunt by marriage had terminal cancer caused by smoking. At the hospital in her last few days, he was there when two of her children discussed, over her bed, which one had extra cigarettes that could be borrowed, and did they want to go outside to smoke together, etc.

Sadie, usually generic or store brands are very good quality but there are examples when they're not. It's hard to decide whether to try them. I tend to be frugal, too, and try them if they are available except for true favorites. Dd15 is the same way with boxed mac and cheese, which she says must be "K r a f t" or it's awful. HRH says most store brands of bread are the same ones running on a production line when the bag supply is changed. One loaf in the line is still the name brand and the next loaf starts the ones going into the store brand bags.

Trying not to say "squeeeeee!" too loudly for OKay.

My sister and I have been talking about our parents a lot lately. When we share the news with people that don't know about my dad yet, we basically say "Not everyone had a great relationship with their parents." at the point where probably some of them are expecting us to show great sorrow/sadness, and man, oh man... have we ever been hearing/seeing people agreeing and nodding their heads.

OKay, I think what I am trying to say (and Lilac, too, and maybe some other names I can't remember... Dee...) not everyone has great fill-in-the-blank. Mother. Father. Daughter. Son. We would love for there to be perfect family dynamics, but they are like our homes. They look great when company is coming, but ... as I say to people about my ex husband when people say "WHY did you get divorced??? He was SUCH A GREAT GUY!!!" I just say "You didn't have to live with him."

As much as we would love fairy tale families, much like fairy tales, they really don't exist.

It's beyond fantastic that we all have a lovely long term relationship here and we can trust each other enough to share what we might not even share with IRL friends or family. What's really great is that some of us actually get to meet each other.

Now just watch, I'll try to post and this won't go through...
