New Year's Eve Tuesday

I guess this will be my last post of the year. Happy New Year's everybody.

Hugs to (Sadie) for upcoming surgery. I know what you mean about the charges. It took us a couple years to pay off DH shoulder surgeries. The hospital bill alone was enormous. Then there was the hip and that hospital bill was huge also. I started making payments on it and they called and said they weren't set up for payments and had to turn it over to collections. Collections called and we made a 1/2 price deal with them if we'd pay that much all at once. So, they okay'd that amount and we paid that. Made our actual deductible much less. If they'd have been patient with us, they'd have gotten the whole thing. I'm praying for your surgery to be successful.

Harriet, too bad everything is so complicated. Won't it be nice once it's all done. What will you use your DDad's old truck for?

Ivy, it's fun trying to picture a little one with leg warmers on!

Our get together was nice. We got to see our northern relatives (they moved up to VA in the fall). Talking with DSisIL was interesting. She's a very social person and was constantly having get-togethers and parties with all her friends. There was always a cooler of beer somewhere. Now none of those people come to visit since her DH died last year, and she doesn't drink much. She expressed how she'd thought they were all her friends too. She's trying to make new friends now. I found it sad, but she seemed to be taking it all in stride. She's usually a very happy person but I sorta felt sorry for her.

DH went off to bed. I finished correcting my last spreadsheet and typed up my 199's and 1096. All done, but I need to pick up 9 x 12 envelopes, the IRS frowns on having their forms folded.

I'm off to watch TV for a bit. Out with the old and in with the new!

Watching Joel O. This evening as we have not heard of a watch night service where we go. Less snacks to avoid here too! Got ten mi. Done on the ex. Bike while I watched too.

Oh, what a nice thing to say Mike and Cathy.

Have meant to say how much we miss hearing from mamapiano, and if anyone happens to "see" her on fb or elsewhere, please say "hi" for us and wish her a happy 2014.

Harmony, it's a solid pick-up, a 2005 that looks newer, frustrating in a tight parking lot, but a lot of help around here. We must not be ready to change vehicles - we can't seem to get excited about any. So I guess we'll stick with the same ones a while. Also meant to tell you that the double meals the other day were almost a surprise to me, or maybe I could have used one of your suggestions. I found out I'd also need a big luncheon meal just the day before. So not enough notice to work in-advance cooking into my time, plus there would have been no room in the refrigerator to store 2 pans of lasagna anyway, what with the turkey already taking up nearly a whole shelf in there. I do not want to go through that again. Dishes, dishes, dishes. Next time, take-out! Or at least something that works with paper plates.

All best wishes for an optimistic and bright 2014 to everyone, and may all your resolutions and new habits be successful. I've been reading about habits in the book I mentioned in the reading thread. Even though the concept of 21 days to a new habit really can't be proven (studies show between 20 and 60 days, dependent upon difficulty, how different the new habit is from regular routine, etc.) , good news is that the first days of trying to form a habit do the most good toward it. Also good news is that missing a day during the habit forming doesn't seem to have any effect on the outcome, so no reason to beat yourself up if you forget, you're still on track. By the way, time-consuming or very athletic or weather-dependent habits, such as daily running outdoors may take 60 days, but one thing it really does only take 20 days to form as a habit... ... wait for it... ... drinking an extra glass of water! No, no I didn't make that up, really, it's true!! Ducking and running!

The cuckoo clock just sang out 11 pm. Only one more hour left in 2013....hard to believe this year is almost a part of history.

We have heard fireworks here all afternoon and more this evening. Dh and I are both trying to stay awake till midnight. We're watching That's Entertainment II now. As far as I know we will be just the two of us tomorrow. That's ok with me; we'll have a nice time watching the Rose Parade and some football or a movie.

Nancy, that sweet bread sounds good.

Harriet, I'm sorry there is so much red-tape to deal with.
