Happy Thursday!

To clarify from yesterday - the scout BBQ was a potluck type of event, so I only provided the food I would be sending over nevertheless plus some BBQ essentials like sauces, cups, cutlery etc (my life's so much easier since I designated a box with all the specialized BBQ cutlery from the two BBQ sets that DH was gifted over the years, and now that the box lives year round inside the BBQ cart, it's only a matter of pulling it out!). But still it felt good to be able to say yes :-)

Home from work. Not going in the office till Tuesday, and I have tomorrow off completely (though once again I have to send off some documentation which was not ready today). It's end of school year, so kids will be off after the first period, and though theoretically I could work from home, I have one more personal day to use in first half of the year (I have 25 vacation days for the whole year plus 2 extra days for each half year). It's hot and it's gonna be even hotter tomorrow and on the weekend!

kittykatt, what party are you organizing?
Bama, crossing my fingers that the nap works out!
kitkat, what kind of summercamp is DGD attending?
L.Ann, welcome home! How was the trip? no health scares?
lauralind, you remind me I should really get serious about my supplements too!
congratulations to DD28, helia! What topic is her book?

- sort and delay start load of lights

Hello everyone!

I'm glad Little Man is feeling better already, Bama.

Congratulations to DD28, Helia! The invitations are for our annual street party. This year the theme is cream tea amd Prosecco (Nosecco for the non-drinkers), and will take place in DF CW's garden.

KitKat, I think it's partly because our pets can't talk and tell us exactly what's wrong, and we have to follow their behaviour cues, that we worry so much. I would say follow your gut feeling with DPup. In my experience,. sometimes our subconscious picks up something that tells us all is not well, even though otherwise others nothing obvious.

Laura, if you put your supplements next to something you do every morning, like the coffee maker, do you think it would remind you to take them?

Did you find some nice fresh produce with the Amish, L.Ann?

Trissie, I'm still very impressed that you were able to pull out all that equipment at a moment's notice! DF CW and I are organising our annual Street party.

Well, the weather hasn't got the message that it's supposed to be cooler today. It was already 27 C when I left home soon after 8 am, and 34C by lunchtime. Fortunately, the church was beautifully cool inside, and the Farmers Union is only a short walk away for lunch, and they had plenty of ventilation and everyone enjoyed themselves. Afterwards, M from the vet rang to say Fred's food had arrived, so I drove down to pick that up. (I would normally have left the car at the church and walked down the hill (and back up again!) but I am not doing that in this heat!

Hello, all. Another exciting day. Our fire alarm was going off, but when I didn't see or smell smoke I ignored it. Sure enough, it was turned off shortly after the fire trucks arrived.

Kittykatt, thank you for starting us off, and for all of the compliments! You are very kind in your assessments. The needlework I did was very basic stuff. And the portable air conditioners are designed to be easy to install and move around, unlike the old window air conditioners. But I appreciate the vote of confidence!
I take extreme heat seriously and I understand that it can kill. But if I were where you are, I would be more concerned about extreme cold. If you draw a line across the globe to the same latitude in Canada, you could be looking at a similar climate if the gulf stream got diverted by climate change. Then you're looking at whether the city's water pipes are buried deep enough, if the materials holding up the bridge will turn brittle, the roads will require a LOT more maintenance, how fast can you adapt to the shorter growing season, etc. etc. If you keep getting more heat, I would anticipate that your governments will start subsidizing the installation of heat pumps. And for today, I hope that your church is nice and cool and that the walk is short and not too bad.

Bama, I'm glad that Little Man is feeling better. I know that I don't appreciate an involuntary early start, but seeing that you are also in the heat, it could work out to take a nap in the heat of the day.

Familiar dogmom worries, kitkat. You are following the vet's recommendation in observing her.

Do you think that you and DD33 will make it through the day, L.Ann, or is a nap in order?

That is so frustrating about the coffee, Lauralind. I hope that it didn't take too long to clean up.
I can imagine that the air conditioners sell like hotcakes at this time of year. When my last one broke, I was impressed that Home Depot still had some in stock in summer.

Congratulations to your dd28, helia, on both counts! We'll keep our fingers crossed for her book to be published.

trissie, you also had a clean enough kitchen and bathroom that people could come in and wash their hands, etc. I am impressed.
I saw that France was the heat spot of the globe, so I imagine that FFB is dealing with substantial heat.
Today I'm joining kittykatt in gardening. My dsis3 has left, and I have many flowers to "deadhead."

spent part of the morning at local coffee shop/ bakery visiting with dfJD, a long time (50 year) friend and neighbor to my mother's house.
Stopped at insurance office to check on reimbursement for hail damage to mother's roof.
Time to hydrate, then go outside and work on my gardening chores. I have 2 green peppers visible. My tomato plant branch broke off with its little cherry tomatoes just starting. The "early girl" has fewer blossoms than the supposedly later plant??? I am eager for those little cherry tomatoes to form so I can snack on them. I haven't had much luck with gardens in my life.
I'm trying!

I love snacking on cherry tomatoes too, gma! The downstairs bath is so tiny that it's really easy to keep clean - just a shower, toilet and sink; no cabinets or counters to clutter!
Well, glad it was not a real fire, Dogged!
oh, right, the Coronation party, kittykatt?

TaDas
- midday routine
- spiff up kitchen (it's somehow BAD again)
- label all jars
