Glad there's no more follow up for DS, trissie. Wow - that's hot! And glad you had a good time at the BBQ.
The evening sounded fun, kitkat. Good luck with the appt. for dh.
I'm jealous, Kitty! I would SO MUCH like to have an empty house for a day. That's not going to happen; even if dh travels, which he does less these days, our housemate M is here. I'm thinking of booking a weekend retreat for myself sometime this fall, but the girls (dniece + friend) will be here through October. Maybe I could still do it.

Up and drinking coffee but not yet quite "at 'em" this morning. I didn't get enough sleep last night, maybe 6 hours. I'll be fine today, but I can still feel the stress. If I didn't have such a busy session at payroll it would help a lot.

I'm going to try to make a comprehensive list of todos before I can leave. It seemed so daunting before, but I've gotten some things done so maybe not quite so daunting now?

In terms of payroll before we leave: basically, I have 8 hours of meetings which I'm leading (8 classroom hours) Monday and Wednesday + 45 minutes in a meeting in which I will actively participate. Can't be passive or "off" for any of these hours. Plus - prep, grading, updating gradelink, updating notes on my tutorial, setting up S7 GGT spreadsheet (might do in Switzerland), and probably other things which I can't remember right now.

Social: We are hosting dinner for CG2 tonight (dh's idea to host  ) BUT someone else is picking up take out for us all. Tomorrow night, we have a nice dinner for us, the girls, the Cs, and M at a fancier restaurant to celebrate major milestones in most of our lives. Also, it just happens to be our 36th wedding anniversary. ❤️ This dinner party was also dh's idea.

In terms of shopping: I need to go to REI to buy rain pants. I need to go to the grocery store as we still need to eat here through Wednesday.

I also need to do early voting as we'll miss August 4th primary election here.

And, of course, I'll need to do laundry and pack (1) backpacking stuff in my backpack and (2) France and Spain stuff in carry on bag. I could get by with 3 pairs of shoes: hiking boots, Tevas for in the hut (wear with socks) -- they only weigh 7 ounces so not heavy in my pack, and walking shoes. I might add a pair of loafers as nicer shoes for restaurants, etc. - but still not too fancy.

Next:
- payroll: prep tutorial
- payroll: tweak AAS lesson
- some qt

Later:
- back exercises

Hello, all. I hope we are all having a good day. :) I think that it's going to be another software day for me. Yesterday the McAfee was actually functioning even though the expiry date had been changed, so I'll check it out today and decide where to go from there. And this morning my db messaged me to say that the backup software that he wrote for me and his ds is ready, so I'll be testing that out. It will be a good learning experience, as I have no experience with installing software on Linux.

Kittykatt, I think that the best possible thing that you can do is to buy another chair. That way, whichever chair your DH takes, the remaining chair will be good for your back.

I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit last night, trissie.

The countdown to the vacation begins, FrenchFly. And the anticipation makes it all the sweeter.

kitkat, I hope that the traffic is not too bad, and that you find your energy.

That brings me to the end of Page 1. I have just been waiting for my joints to loosen up so that I can clean up after Germane.

The upside of being an adult is that when you wake up with a sweet tooth, you can make a lettuce/apple/carrot salad with French dressing. You take last night's pasta from the fridge and add pesto. And then you can say "You know what this needs? Oysters, drenched in lemon juice." You can do that, and nobody can stop you.
The downside is that nobody stops you to ask "How many people were you planning to feed with all that?"

That's good news, kitkat. I have driven into Toronto exactly once, and the traffic blows even Montreal away.

You and L.Ann are sailing through your lists. I will start on mine eventually, LOL.
Don't be impressed by my computer knowledge. The Linux is all my db!

helia, a weekend getaway sounds perfect for you. A chance to unwind.

I hope that your day of doing other people's errands has left you enough time to work on your own priorities, trissie.

Monday
Cleaned up after Germane
Washed the floor around her pee pads (and under) and the front of apartment
Germane woke up
Rushed to get some pee pads on the floor
Used up the last of the box
Germane used her pee pad (good girl) then pooped on the floor
Raced her to stop her from walking through the poop.
Cleaned up after Germane
Gave Germane her heart pill and peanut butter
Set up new recycling box
Started new peepad box
Finished putting out pee pads
Made breakfast

Doggedly that's true, anticipating the vacation is in itself a pleasure. Lovely salad recipe, I'll skip the oysters, maybe for mussels ? As for installing Linux, MrNG was dreading doing it by himself until he started using chatGPT on vocal mode, he installed Linux on an old laptop we had in no time, now the kids use the laptop daily - we had thought the thing was useless and doomed to be recycled. I suppose installing stuff on a Linux machine is simpler than installing Linux itself ?

trissie how is the dress project going ? I see it is still in your "me time" list, so probably not finished yet.

helia I hope you can book yourself a retreat somewhere, something hermit-like if you need it, or at least quiet.

Waving to kittykatt, L.Ann, kitkat, anyone I forgot ?

Payroll is done, dinner was prepped and served and cleaned up, now I deserve some computer time. The kids spent time with MrNG in a small wooden area nearby, they cut sticks of wood from hazelnut trees to use as walking sticks, after watching a video showing how to. MrNG did the most difficult part. After dinner he was showing DS10 how to use a wood file ? (word?) to make the top smoother. DS10 is planning to carve decorations in his stick tomorrow, he discovered how to remove the bark from it... It was mostly a no-screen day and MrNG is proud of his idea. The project can last one or two afternoons longer, discovering some wood tools and being creative...

TADAs
day at payroll, commute
made dinner (tomato and mozzarella salad, tofu, pesto rosso on pasta)
packed leftovers for payroll lunches
cleaned up
d-washer started

TODOs
get kids to brush teeth and head for their bedrooms
read stories ?
before bed routine (me)
maybe read a bit
