Birthday gift selection solved. We typically replace phones when currently phone breaks, however I've decided to replace his phone now. His phone is still working but is 5 years old and the software stops getting updated in 5 months (2027). So...he is getting a new (renewed premium) iphone 17 for his birthday. The new phone should be good on software updates for another 5 years. This gift solves 2 "problems".

I didn't know the difference between renewed and renewed premium on a-river. After researching it the decision was easy to make.

I ordered 5 pairs of new jeans for DS17 last week and they just arrived. I can claim them as part of his birthday gift even though he was getting them because I found them on a great price.

Good morning! (barely -- it will probably be afternoon by the time I finish here)

We had no luck on the trivia Saturday. Apparently, one must register ahead of time. The trivia is outside of the shop's normal hours, so they did not even open up.

Yesterday was pretty leisurely. Didn't go anywhere other than church. Spent the afternoon embroidering while watching the ballgame. After that, dinner, then played DD's newest game a couple of times as a family. Then just watched some TV shows that we haven't been keeping up on well. I finished embroidery #3; maybe I will post a picture in crafts later.

I don't have anywhere to go today, so I am dressed in ratty clothes and mean to clean the bathroom later. I'm always so afraid of getting bleach on myself. I need to get DC actually registered for classes if possible -- I think they may have done the registration part, but I know they haven't paid. I also want to synchronize the kitchen calendar and the one on my phone -- and I need to ask DC about play rehearsals; the schedule they last gave me only went through July. Plus we need to schedule blood donations and DC's driving retest.

So glad to read while CUOPing that you are hours away from the fires, Nancy. I've been thinking of you when I hear the stories on the radio.

I joined you in exercising, Harriet -- I hit the treadmill for a bit. I have no doubt you exercised more, though. "Embarrass him now while you can."

I'm glad to hear the doc is adjusting your mom's meds a bit, blessed.

LadyM, I swear, sometimes I can pull a muscle by breathing wrong! I hope your realignment goes well. I'm sure your DS will enjoy his new phone.

Have a nice workout, Twins! Does your DH's bowling mean you get a bit of quiet time before your workout? Ooh, I need ink, too. Maybe I do have to go out today.

I spent way too long this morning fussing through the embroidery floss trying to decide whether the floss I got for coral was too orangey. The lighting at Michael's was horrible. Lacking Cathy's floss stash, I would have to make a trip back to the store if I don't use the floss I already bought. I think I've found three colors that harmonize and approximate those the recipient said they liked. Now I have to decide which colors to use for which flowers. You see where this could lead to a bit of distraction....

Next up, start a wash, then have some lunch.

Morning all. So many sad fires south of me too. So far no where near us. At least 7 or 8 hours away

Wow. I'm tired. Slept really bad again. Now I'm trying to convince myself to go pick the rest of the berries. A patch inside the creek bed. Maybe put my strawberries in the ground instead of planter. Other than that I think it's a quiet home day.

Quick post -- JUMPED out of bed (after "lollygagging" for about 30 minutes) because the yard man/renter was at the door, wanting to pay his rent.
So I've done all my morning routine now except for s2s/etc -- and I am ready to go out and prune some shrubs.

I don't mind But-First-Syndrome so much when I carry it with me myself, but when it tracks me down it's just not fair.

Was mopping the kitchen and barely TOUCHed the bottom of the dishwasher and the metal kickplate fell off with a fram-fram. Anyway, with half the kitchen done and HRH saying let him get down in the floor, I vacated and did the deeper cleaning around the master bath floor I'd been considering.

By the way, we (the queenly "we") are doubtful about HRH getting down in the floor and repairing this. May be another job for ds, who is already going to have to undo the light fixture in the kitchen and replace lightbulbs. HRH says have faith. Also, I haven't had this dishwasher long enough for this, so I'm pouting.

Lauralind, I know my tiny dishwasher trouble doesn't match yours and I hope you get yours straightened out. I think the noise sorta scared me. What kind of berries are you picking?

Mystery, it does my heart good to know you are as serious about fiber arts color as I am. DgsW would advise you to give it up. He's partially color-blind and says he sees reality so he knows Grandma is making less sense than she thinks.

What a good idea, LadyM. It will be good for him to have this off his mind in the next few years, too. Will you surprise him?

Hi! I was up and out early.

I got to the grocery store in Niagara Falls right at 9 as they were opening. Just my truck and one other vehicle in the parking lot, other than employee vehicles which are parked on the far side of a huge lot. It's huge because there are numerous tractor trailers coming in and out all the time. I went straight to the back of the meat department and I got a LOT of meat. Now it's all in the freezer. I came home and unloaded it all into the chest freezer in the garage. I had also gone to the Italian bakery but they were closed because it's a holiday here today. Last year they passed a law in the provincial level that stores could decide whether or not they wanted to be opened on this holiday. This year a lot of big stores are open. I was able to go to a local grocery store and pick up some stuff for dh. We ran out of orange juice yesterday and he should have had some this morning. Instead he had some of my Sprite.

hi d harriet - but first syndrome - I had to look it up - I thought I knew but I wanted verified:

"But First" Syndrome is a humorous term for a chain reaction of minor interruptions. You set out to do one task, notice another minor mess, and tell yourself you must fix it "but first" before doing the original job. This repeats until your day is gone and the main task remains undone.

I understand the: I am not sure if dh's can do something like this. Dh has had a lot of that lately - things that I know will not be good for him (or me ). queenly we (over here) knows that dh keeps biting off more than he can chew or doesn't have the ability to do. (my dh is a lovely man but does not have one ounce of handyman in him.)

Yesterday dh wanted to walk the dog - on a leash - even after the dog took him down at the vet - she isn't bad but he is like a feather when walking. dd older went out and talked him into choosing a different path. he agreed after he was pulled a bit.

I felt a little annoyed by a few things this morning but I am saying thank you for them. "Just do it" thanking is going to be my focus and not let a comment by someone (not dh or family member) bother me It was really bothering me and now it is a little annoying - but soon I will it funny that I felt it was so annoying. lol. lovely person but I have been so busy for the last couple days.

DS17 birthday gift won't be a surprise because I wanted to make sure it was something he wanted before purchasing it. I also had him pick out a case for the phone so I could get that ordered too.

DS17 had an interview this morning and was hired on the spot. He called to share his happy news. He is super pleased to be employed again, and they wanted him to start immediately. The job is at a mechanic/tire shop so he will be surrounded by his favorite things....vehicles, tires, motors, etc. This is not his long term dream job, but after 3 weeks of not working he is greatly relieved to have a job. I could see signs that things were going in the wrong direction for him emotionally/mentally. He has always kept his personal care at the top level of clean but over the past couple of weeks he has been slipping with personal care. For him it was an ego hit when unemployed. ANYway, for many reasons I am pleased that he has a job again.

DS17 will be legal age in 2 days. He will still have his teenager status, but by law he will be an adult. I consider it the end of my child raising years with him. I no longer have the legal right to make decisions for him, and I don't have legal responsibility for his decisions. It is a weird moment to reach. I remember at the adoption ceremony standing in front of the judge with my right hand raised promising to care for him. That legal promise ends this week.
I am in over thinking it mode!

blessed, it's the "getting back up again" part of some handyman things that seem the most difficult for HRH. If it's at eye-level, I don't pay attention to him. But if he's on the floor/ground - hmmm... .. He always says when he has to get up from a difficult position, he somehow hears his grandfather's voice, grunting, and doesn't know where it comes from.

Two projects are tug-of-warring with my brain. Shall I sew a stitch or pot up a plant... ..
