helia, there is a reason why the Spanish love their siesta and don't eat dinners till late in the evening! The weather just dictates the way of life!
Sagrada Familia is really something, isn't it? I visited it in... another life, actually thrice over the course of one year back in 1995, because in June, we had a school student exchange in Zaragoza with trip to Barcelona, then during summer hols with my mom's partner (OK, this sounds weird, but by then they were together for several years, we were already spending weekends and vacations together, and they had a romantic trip planned with a group of his friends and their kids, and she got sick just before leaving and just sent me instead because it was already all paid for), and then in September I was accompanying my sister on her school trip and since I was the only Spanish-speaking person in the entire group, the teachers took me as an interpreter on their day off to Barcelona). So, lots of Sagrada one year and then never again, but I can add it to my destination list again :-)

L.Ann, I see you're already ready for the Christmas thread, I was just thinking about it this morning! :-)

helia, yes, I did know the kids from before (the year before that, we spent a week at a rented yacht), and since there were two brothers and another girl my age, I did round up the kids' group quite well. Actually I didn't realize it was a weird set up till many years later (I was 14 at that time). I liked that guy - him and mom, they were together for about six years, he was very active and into sports, he taught both me and my sister skiing and riding a bike. But he wanted a child of his own blood (he had one from previous marriage but the ex cut him off completely) and mom felt like she was too old for a baby, so they eventually broke up and he went on to have a baby with a girl 15 years younger than him. But I have very good memories of the time they were together.
I actually think that us having bought a cottage is due to him, because he had one in the mountains and as a kid, I absolutely LOVED being there! It probably wasn't that much fun for my mother, but it was kids' heaven :-)

The wonderful photograph stopped me in my tracks and made me feel wistful, FrenchFlybebe! Too good for a calendar, etc., it needs to be on a wall in Dad's den, doesn't it? Precious child.

Gee, Kittykatt, I don't know if I've seen that movie. Will have to check it out.

I've got a lot of catching up to do around here. Our door lock malfunctioned yesterday and when we returned from a medical appt, we were locked out of the house for hours. Ds got us in, installed new door lock, and we were able to stay in ddolder's dining room until then, so, very blessed to have some alternatives in 90-something heat.

The mending basket is next up.

Hi, all. I am thrilled to report that my dbrother's dcat is home safe and sound. And even better, nothing evil or traumatizing happened to him. As near as we figure, he snuck in my db's bff's basement, where he is not allowed to be. He waited until my db and bff, who have stopped him from going into the basement before, were distracted, and followed bff's elderly mother into the basement without being noticed. This is not a typical modern apartment with a hollow cardboard door to call through. The basement has a trap door in the walk in closet, with cleaning supplies stored on top of it. When he cried to be let out, it sounded as though the sound came from outside, probably from a heating vent under the window. So they would examine the hedges on that side of the house and check with the neighbours if they had seen him. Today my db tracked the sound to the cleaning closet and from there the trap door, to general rejoicing.
I had a good phone visit with my db to celebrate.

BBL to CUOP :D
