Just popping in for a few minutes. DGS is having a sleepover, and he's keeping me rather occupied! Last night, he and DS rearranged all the living room furniture to make a big "fort" and watch movies. Then DGS slept on the top bunk...he's been wanting to for a while, but was still too nervous about the ladder. This time he had no problems at all!
So far this morning, I've put away the clean dishes, made pancakes for breakfast, played Mar*o Kart Wii, done the upstairs critter care, and generally puttered. Now it's time to get the both of us dressed to go over to dMum's for a quick visit (and possibly a trip to the toy store). After that, I'll drop DGS at home, pick up some groceries, and head home myself.

Long, exhausting, day but rounds one and two are almost done. The dishwasher is still running but the hand dishes are done up.
Church went well. We had 32 which is a good sized group for us. We move downstairs in 4 weeks but only have 2 more services in our sanctuary. Thirty in the basement feels like a 'crowd' which will be good but the acoustics are awful down there so that part of church becomes more ordinary. So I'm dreading moving down.
The brunch went really well. The last people left at 3:45. The boys were very good as usual and played in the basement. At one point I heard a basement door close and it because very quiet. I looked at the parents and dh and said, "Let's do rock/paper/scissors to see who investigates the quiet" but before we could even stand up from the table, the noise started again and three slightly bored boys arrived back upstairs and they played around upstairs for a bit (one playing the piano nicely because I put out the children's Christmas music, one reading the dictionary! and one dressing himself up in antlers and entertaining us.)
Everything is cleaned up now. I put plates under the syrup and the juice and blueberries and the table cloth will not need cleaning. Given that it is 16' long, this is a blessing because it is hard to handle.
I still have to pull the leaves out of the table and put away the china when the dishwasher finishes but the stuff that can't go in the dishwasher is cleaned and put away.
Next up is to start a big chicken dinner because that's what dh is looking forward to. I can't imagine eating another bit today so it is hard to think about cooking a roast!
We did not make it to DMIL's last night. DH felt awful in the afternoon and I made him call his DMom so she could hear how bad his voice sounded. He's still coughing today but seems better for taking some extra time to rest.
I'm trying to convince myself that I have not caught any kind of virus. I don't have time to be sick.
DH's workplace is collecting donations for a food pantry so he went grocery shopping with me this afternoon. We discovered a tail light out on my car, and he's on his way back to WM to try to find the part to replace tonight.
We had just planned on sandwiches for supper. However, now I'm thinking that he'll be out in the cold long enough, I should make some nice hot soup.
By the way, I think it's kind of fun that avadavis is pulling up some of our old threads. Lots of good info still in our archives.

Harriet, thanks so much for posting the article about Irving Berlin. I had never heard about that, & it is a wonderful story! There was a mention at the top of the article about the North Platte Canteen which got me wonderfully sidetracked . Years ago I saw that book in a bargain bin, bought it & read it in one sitting. I absolutely loved this true WWII story. I found a video on utube about it which has lots of original pictures. The narrator sounds like a man who was there at one time. It is 6 or 7 minutes long but time well spent :
DD, DH and I went to church this morning and then stopped at O Garden for lunch. Made one stop for quick shop on the way home and have been home ever since. Mostly we napped. Watched "Christmas Vacation" with DSIL tonight. One of his favorites.
DS-A called dh to make sure he voted in elections for tomorrow night at the fire department. So dh took care of that.
I just ordered meds from Med Co -a renewal for me -shudder!! I just refuse to argue with them until after Christmas -have enough to last me in to January.
Have a church meeting online tomorrow night (I hope) and then dh and I are going to Bradenton until Thursday. Picking dgd up from school tomorrow and again on Thursday. Try to help dd as much as I can there. She's putting a lot of miles on her car just taking dgd to catch her morning ride to school (bus is not an option). She has to drive beyond where the school is and then a pretty long drive for her to get back to her own school. But, so far she's not been late any day!
Kathryn, you've probably said, but how come you're moving into the basement at this church?
Dh is convinced we will still be moving "stuff" a month from now. I sure hope not. I have given up taking pictures before we move. I don't have the time to mess with it. Dh started measuring and cutting the vinyl remnant for shelf lining in the kitchen. He is no where near done and the $50.00 worth of vinyl is about gone. I will need to buy some more tomorrow. He said he will go over and work on it again tomorrow night. We put up our tree. It is pre-lit but we have 2 small sections that aren't lit. We changed the fuse and that didn't take care of it. I can't find any empty sockets, so I don't know what the problem is. The tree is a several years old. I had hoped to find one on sale so I could have a tree up and down next year. Since I have plenty of ornaments, the cost of the tree is all I would be out. Not going to waste time worrying over it. I'm not, really.
Need to call dfriend who moved away. They bought a K enmore washer/dryer set that was highly rated in Consumer R eports. Sears has a set on sale and I need to get the model # so I can see if that is the one on sale.
DMum has been visited, fabric store and toy store and bakery errands done, and Monsterboy safely delivered home. Driving home from his house, I realized I was much too tired to go grocery shopping. I could hardly see the road at times with all the yawning I was doing!! So, I came home, sent DS over to the little pizza/donair place across the road for something for supper, and I'll go get the groceries tomorrow.
I was thinking about doing some sewing this evening, but I'm not sure I wouldn't manage to sew myself to the fabric Mostly, I'm just going to try to stay awake for a couple more hours, then head to bed for a loooonnnnggggg night's sleep! Perhaps I'll do a little crocheting - a MUCH safer activity to fall asleep doing..LOL

The Little Drummer Boy special music got a standing ovation from the church family. The drummer had everything set up for LO success and he played wonderful with a HUGE smile through the whole song. He doesn't have an ounce of nervousness to get up in front of a crowd (about 300 today) and enjoyed every moment of it.
Church luncheon went smoothly and there was plenty of food to feed everyone and probably enough left to feed another 50 people.
The 4 hour drive was partly in rain but the roads were clear and almost no traffic. There was one horrible sight that happened right in front of me - a deer ran out of the trees and hit the car directly in front of me. The deer died instantly. The car was damaged but driveable.
DSon and DDIL are on a date so I have been super busy keeping 3 little ones (5, 3 & 1 year old) feed and occupied. The baby is asleep and the 2 boys are playing digital games. It is past their bedtimes, but we are ignoring that for now.
Speaking of kids toys in this day and time - I couldn't agree more! I'm watching a 5 year old play games on Ipad and a 3 year old playing on 3DS.....and it is considered normal???/
Dee: we are moving to the basement in order to not have to heat the sanctuary in the winter. For 30 people, it seems like a waste of energy (both from money and environmental impact.) We can keep the sanctuary at 50 degrees all winter and nothing will freeze but we don't have to take the big space (we have 20+ foot ceilings) up to 70 when it is 0 or below. There is no insulation and the snow actually will blow through the doors in the winter.
Dinner was excellent. It smelled so good we had no trouble eating.
Everything is now put back from today, including the stuff I gathered up for the stash and dash.
