Dh and I were out of the house at 8:30 this morning to get him to the airport - afterwards I went to Tar-jay for a walk around, then to the new house to see drywall up (how exciting - rooms!) and then to Walmart for a humongous grocery run. Dkids unloaded it all, and I've put away the perishables, at least. Now they won't starve to death!

Going to need a nap - I was awake when dh got up at six to finish packing. I had started reading at bedtime and read until past midnight. Of course, I like a power nap most days.

Going to try for a family supper for the three of us tonight - make your own pizzas...

Lucylee, I had to laugh about Wasted Days and Wasted Nights - I feel the same way much of the time.

It is a good thing we walked as often as we could this morning. It is getting cloudy and I looked at the radar and the rain is just west of us across the state line.

I switched to Chrome awhile back (1-2 years??). Now I can't remember why I switched, but I am happy with it. During the recent installation/configuration/troubleshooting of MPB camera/security, I alternated between using 3 browsers to make sure the problems weren't browser related. The software that displays the camera picture online was written to be used with IE....but not IE 9 (the most recent version). By the end of the troubleshooting session, I ended up installing IE plugin to use inside of Chrome browser. SHEEEZ - Waaay more information that you asked for. Let me try again....

Yes, I use Chrome browser and am pleased with it.

Sobered to read George Lindsay, Goober Pyle, has died. What wonderful memories of his comedy.

Joining those who have ended up napping. I finished the jeans washing and my ddad took a nap. HRH and dd were watching Journey to the Center of the Earth together. So I took a nap.

Yes, a lovely nap. I can't believe how much my house is trashed, tho. DD is asleep on the couch - I've been trying to cut her some slack because she's obviously not feeling well, but we can't continue to live like this!

I've gotten sucked into watching a food network program about Jewish food. Once it's over or I can pull myself away....

Yes... just saw the news about George Lindsey.... y'all know he is from my home state, right? One of my high school teachers went to college with him. (She's not in real good health, either... sad to see this generation getting away from us.)

I've pretty well wasted this day so far, too, Twins. But I did go to church, and enjoyed it very much. Guest speaker -- young man who is a "lay speaker" in our church, not an ordained minister, but as I told him afterwards, he always says exactly what I need to hear, every time he speaks.

Also have talked to ds this afternoon. He & ddil are on their way home from baby shower & weekend w/her family. Sounds like everything went really well and they got a lot of nice things.
Dh's cousin is diligently trying to get church shower underway... and I'm feeling kinda nervous, but I guess it will pass. She keeps mentioning it kinda in passing to some of her friends, and no one is really rising to the bait to say, "OH!!! We MUST help!!!" LOL... and she would like to have more non-family involved... * sigh * I'm just hoping people DO show up when she gets it planned. * sheesh *
Everybody's great fear, I guess, what if you throw a party and nobody comes.
I just don't want ddil to have her feelings hurt, and ds is going to be out of town the only weekend dcousin is available, so... if there's not a good showing, it'll make ddil feel worse, I guess, to be there without him. Of course, he wasn't planning to be AT the shower, anyway, really, b/c we don't do a lot of co-ed baby showers around here. (Dmil was just amazed that ddil wanted it to be co-ed; she had never heard of such a thing, LOL... but I thought it would be kinda nice for ds to be there. However, there is just no way to schedule for him. Dcousins are gone the week before; Father's Day is the week after. * sigh *)

DH here is still staying close to the couch, too. He has not ventured outdoors since Thursday. That is VERY unusual for him.

Afternoon y'all...

I am having a slow and pokey day today. In fact I stayed in bed and drank coffee while watching a movie on TV. That's something I haven't done in a very long time.

Yesterday I had a Derby Party, with more than 30 guests. I made Mint Julips and Kern's Derby Pie, which is sort of like a Toll house cookie pie. Most of the women came wearing hats...baseball hats were welcome We took a slip of paper, choose our rides and put our names on it. Then we tossed it into a silver bowl and put a dollar in another for each horse we picked. A person could put as many slips in as they wanted. After the race is over, we counted all the slips with the winning horse and divided the pot by the amount of slips. Last year my friend was the only one to pick the winning horse, and this year we had 12.

A good time was had by all. I ordered 6 foot long subway sandwich and made 3 pies. Several other people brought other things to eat. I had plenty of sodas and water which I kept ice cold in a tub of ice water. People started coming at 2:30 and the actual race was at 3:30 my time. This is becoming an annual event for me and my friends kept telling me how much they were looking forward to the party. Even Sweetie got in to the swing of things becoming the perfect host.

We said good night to our last guests around 10:30, and because of the way I had organized everything...garbage and recyclable cans in the right spots, I was done with clean-up and in bed by 11. Everyone who was interested took a turn looking at the moon through binoculars. It was spectacular and added a magical touch to the party.

I now have papers to grade and a few more retirement papers to fill out this afternoon. Looking forward to the "killing" and "Mad Men" tonight with Sweetie. Tired enough right now that I might join others with a quick nap.

Yes, the Andy Griffith show and Mayberry RFD, were hits here, and I remember George Lindsay well! I think that Jim Nabors had some kind of link to this area - perhaps relatives here?

News from the rabbi that an elderly member of the congregation passed away last night as the result of an auto accident in which he was one of two drivers. I remember seeing him at Wal-mart maybe a year ago and thinking that he might be too frail to be driving. I need to make a DPC to his son, I think. Funeral on Wed, my day off, when dmom has dr appt.

Did not do that round, but did this:
-restarted washer, where laundry had sat for several days wet (Yeeeeck!)
-cleared kitchen counters
-fed and watered ddogs
-took out kitchen trash
-emptied the dishwasher

DD still asleep, which means she will be up all night - I probably need Harriet to enforce some sleeping hours here to get her back on track when she's over this. Clearing kitchen counters drew ds to fix himself some supper. We had talked about watching a movie together this evening but it looks like that may be off....also since I need to do some super straightening up here.

-fold laundry from dryer
-continue to work on kitchen table clutter
-10 pieces of paper gone
-put away basket of laundry
-bring down dirty laundry

Ooooh, envious of Cowinkie counting down!

BTW, in response to my request for ds to move some of the stuff he dumped on the kitchen table, he started unpacking stuff...."I didn't use this, do you want it?" "Do you want to put this away?" (Soap) I finally had to tell him that I was trying to put stuff away, not unpack right now.

Well the house showing apt. cancelled after all that work ~sigh~ at least I have a clean house now.

Yesterday I got the see the tractor that h. drove in the parade last weekend.

We went to church and stayed for the business mtg. things are pretty much a mess there but
no surprise. Got a phone call for got to turn off my phone and was distracted so I did not get much out of the sermon.

Had a chat with a friend on my walk and that helped me to feel better, she was a bit down sold the pull trailer for camping now that her hubby is gone no need for that. Got to see a baby horse on my walk today as well as the baby goats that was fun.

Store run done. Some of the stuff I needed was out of stock will have to check later in the week for it.

I saw a gal I knew at the store a couple of her kids were recovering from different surgeries made me rethink my attitude! I need to work on it.

Jim Nabors was also born in Alabama, but in the southern part of the state. (As far as I know, he and George Lindsey were not related... except in Mayberry. )

I have checked off several items on my to-do list... making progress... of course, the things I'm putting off are the more difficult chores. That's always the case, isn't it?
