Good Morning! still 30 minutes left in my morning

Preparing things to take to family gathering this afternoon was a breeze. I sliced up the chicken salad tortillas wraps and cheese/pimeto tortillas wraps which made 2 huge platters of swirls. Made big container of queso dip . Cubed up watermelon into finger size chunks, I'll also take some chicken italian brats to put on the grill. All-in-all it only took about 30 minutes to get our contribution ready to take. I like that kind of easy/quick meal prep!

This morning i pulled up pumpkin plants/vines from one raised bed. The heat and bugs had the plants looking 1/2 dead so I finished the job. I threw a dozen pumpkins over the fence (into the pasture) for treat to the livestock and have twice that many loaded up on a wagon to do something with. Need to research pumpkin recipes.

Okay--Great idea to slice up those wraps!

DH is working today, so it doesn't seem like the 4th. We're having chicken pot pie for supper. Unamerican, I know, but needed to use the last chicken breast that I cooked on the weekend!

Met another neighbor on our walk last night. He will take some firewood that we have piled up. Yay! Our fireplace is gas, so all the free firewood on our property does us no good, except to use outside in the firepit.

Getting excited about DD being here in a week. Then we will all drive up to DS's wedding. Not going to stress about the house. She is our DD, after all, and knows better than to expect things to be perfect around here!

No big plans for us today - just relaxing at home. Our block party starts at about 5pm, with fireworks when dark.

Sad about Andy Griffith's passing - he was a treasure of Southern charm. I loved his singing voice and his video with Brad Paisley - "Waiting on a Woman".

Went out to the antique co-op where I worked for years to see dfriend again. Was there yesterday but left my purse -because I had several other things to carry out and simply forgot.

Just drove over to dd's in the golf cart but they weren't there. Met gd13 & dgd17 on the way back. Said hi to T as I came to her and then called her by her full name and said hi, she finally said "hi" to me like this: hi . Then passed dgd17 who came over & gave me a hug and a kiss & said that she'd told T to stop being so rude and nasty to me. She is SO jealous. Our one big hope is that dbaby doesn't arrive until she's gone to camp. It's unbelievable how obnoxious and hateful she can be. I was still feeling the effects of the adrenaline rush from last night for a good share of today. Feeling better now.

Now it's time to go back over to dd's with food. I am determeined to be nice as pie to gd. I'm sure if her behavior toward me contnues one of my dk's, ddil or dh is going to have it out with her. Sad. I really don't do anything to her or say anything to deserve her treatment. Okay, vent over. But she sure can make things miserable for everyone.

So sorry, Dee. Don't know if I would trust her around the new baby. Seeing her mother snuggling the baby might be too much for her. Just ignore me if I'm out of line saying that...

Helia-- meant to say that your DH sure has plenty of energy! I prefer my DH to stick to garage and basement chores. Oh and he gets to take care of anything with an engine! Seriously, that's great that your DH is so helpful.

Friends called that we usually see on the 4th. That was nice. They will be at wedding--can't wait to see them!

Just gained an hour as we passed into the USA.

We ended up eating at McD's because the Schnitzel place had no room for us. We couldn't remember the name so didn't think to call for reservations even though it was just luck that we got in last year and we were arriving at 6:30, not 5:15 this year.

We'll check into the motel shortly but I need veggies first. Was planning to buy some at Walmart down the road to eat at the motel but just remembered the owner warned me everything in town will be closed. I'm going to go back to the counter here and buy a salad.

It has been a rough two days. Last night in particular was awful. I had an allergy/asthma attack, plus the room at the inn was really noisy, plus my TOM was out of control and I stained the sheets really badly. Knowing we had to travel all day today and needed a good rest just added to the anxiety, plus knowing I was 35 minutes away from the closest medical help if I couldn't get the attack under control on my own. I did (extra allergy meds plus 2x500g of chewable C to stop the coughing until the allergy meds got into my system and then sleeping sitting up which put me farther away from whatever was the trigger (probably the eiderdown because there were no feathers in the pillows.)

All this was complicated by the fact the inn owners are the children of our friends so hadn't even taken an imprint of the credit card so I felt we couldn't leave in the middle of the night. Dh finally walked up to the house and came across her on the path and told her we might have to leave so she said just email info if we had to. Then the husband came down and told the people who were being noisy to quiet down (at this point it was past 11:30.) That helped but didn't solve the snorer in the next room nor make me less worried that my coughing would disturb others.

I am feeling for you both. Oh, I could write a book about motels we have been in. OMG! One of them in Salinas, CA, they were selling drugs to the truck drivers from the room next door. It went on all night long. I wanted to call the police, but you never know who might be in cahoots with them at the PD. I let it go. I remember how mad I was and I wouldn't want that experience again.

Today was just another day for Mr. Guy and I. We don't usually do much on the 4th anyway. We use to go to dfriends for a wonderful potluck picnic, but I think that will never happen again because we don't hire him to do contract work on our place because he is so expensive - sometimes twice what others charge. Oh Well! Sorry to lose them as friends, but that is the way it goes.

Norma: Our breakfast ($25 - this wasn't a motel but an inn) was comped this morning over our objections. The problems we had were all beyond the control of the inn keeper.

Tonight we are in a motel, the first real one I've stayed in since 2008 when we drove up into Northern Ontario and out of the reach of Holiday Inn Express. We are staying in the nicest place in this town according to Trip Advisor. So when my stomach did a flip when I walked into the room, I reminded myself, this is the best the town has to offer. I've got all the windows open, airing the place and I'll take allergy meds in moment so they are in my system by bedtime. With dh and I at such ill-sorts, the double bed is going to be a challenge!

Aside from the ratings, I picked this place because it was way more affordable than Bangor and had a fridge and free internet. Plus it is out of town so a bit more quiet up here than in town proper where it is fair time.

Tomorrow night is a Ramada so that should be more what I'm used to.

Apparently our 9.5 hour trip tomorrow will take way longer because of the holiday travel. I never thought of that, assuming people would take Thursday and Friday off in order to have a long weekend. Anyway, the owner here suspects the traffic will be bad from Bangor on and awful once we get near to Boston since everyone will be driving back to Boston and New York tomorrow. Sigh... He told us to get on the road early. We have to stop at a bank first and get a roll of quarters for all the toll roads, and at Walmart to get some food for our lunch since we won't be stopping to eat along the way, just bathroom and driver breaks.

Fireworks are going off now from the camp ground across the street so I can see those from our room. Hopefully, they'll end by 10.

Edited to add: the fireworks in town started. We are 2 miles away and can see and hear them (though we are hearing them long after seeing them!) It is very impressive but it is Maine where the state bird is the mosquito so we only lasted a few minutes watching them.
