Harmony, the knees were still a little sore but I managed to mow. Now I need to get a shower and run errands.

Walked 3 miles a little while ago. AOL weather says it's 91 degrees. I think our outdoor temperature registered more like 92/94 -- it's hard to read.
I also have 2nd load of laundry in washer... 1st load hanging to dry... one more to do.
Eating some Triscuits & cheese... trying to get my energy back. The heat just really ruins me for the rest of the day.

So glad to hear Twins is settling into new home...
and that work is getting busier for Harmony & dh...

We're under a tornado watch right now. Very unusual for us. Even when storms kick up twisters they tend to be along the Ottawa River which puts them miles from here. We tuned into the radio on the drive home because the sky looked dodgy. On the first station we heard there was an alert and I immediately thought of my friend up the valley, never thinking it would be for my area (the first station's, NPR-like, was so imprecise that it wasn't until I went to the AM talk radio station that I got a clear picture that the danger area was at home.)

They've had rain here but the sun is out again and it looks like the front is moving to our south. While we were driving along, the temperature, in a matter of 5 minutes went from 91 to 76. So I've opened up the windows upstairs since there's a breeze now too and outside is the same temp as inside but less stuffy.

We picked up dh some Chinese food for dinner and I'll make up a stir fry to use up some of the chicken leftovers.

My volunteering went very well, I'm now 80% finished purging the library. The recycle bins haven't been emptied but I emptied the magazine holders and the other stuff that will be recycled and stacked it on a shelf so once the bins are empty, I can refill them without thinking. Dh took 4 boxes of books and 6 of videos to the Bibles 4 Mission thrift store. I've got about 10 boxes of books left to pack up but am delaying that for as long as possible in case people want something.

Then we went off to lunch at the chip wagon and hair cuts. The stylist did mine 'curly' (I'd say mussy) and dh teased us. It isn't a look I'd ever bother to do myself but it was fun to see what it looked like and how it is done. Dh was worried about the cut underneath so I had to assure him it is my regular cut (only longer because I'm trying to grow out my hair.)

After that it was a bank run, Chinese grocery store, Chinese take-away and general store for the mail (since by then we knew about the tornado watch so wouldn't be walking it today.)

Now I'm home and will take a deep breath and check my email.

I love beadboard. In our hallway we have it up to nearly shoulder height. But stained, not white.

Vases - a lady won the $10 prize for "I'm so smart" or something like that competition in regional paper with this idea: She places a bud vase inside a larger wide-mouth vase and puts water in both. Then she arranges her tallest, or spindliest few stems in the bud vase. She arranges the shorter or stronger stems around the edge of the larger vase, paying special attention that some are quite short, blooms barely above the height of the outer vase, or slightly draping. This way her central blooms stay high and held well, but you can't tell there's anything different going on with her arrangement, because the view of the bud vase is hidden by both high and low blooms.

My ddad had a bloodwork appt this a.m., a bit stressful, then we stopped by on errands at pharmacy 3 . As we pulled into driveway, a car pulled in after us. It was an old friend of HRH's who had just flown in from Orlando this a.m. Sigh. He must have called the house to ask if he could come over right after we had left. We had absolutely no idea he was coming. My meal was postponed further and I got super hungry. Ultimately, dd and I went back out for take-out in order to provide a nice enough lunch. I just had no choice - we were caught so off guard. Still no word on how long he intends to stay - he is in the living room watching tv with HRH.

Well. I am s2s. Last load of laundry is in washer. I am heading out to the cleaners & the post office.

Oy, unexpected guests, Harriet.

Something of a wild afternoon here. I laid down three different times to take a nap; by the time I laid down the third time I couldn't sleep. Ds and his friend emptied the POD into the garage. While they were doing that, the neighbors' dog got out (this is the one that Macs/Moe jumped last night) and checked out our front porch peering in at my boys. Of course, they were going crazy and I was imagining our front door scratched up from the inside. The neighbor dog didn't have a collar so it was hard to get her going and off my porch. Just after that ds and friend announced that I had to make more room in the garage for boxes, and while doing that electrician showed up to reverse the dryer plug and try to get our stove moved back so it doesn't extend beyond the counter top. (Unsuccessfully, BTW.)

After all this I tried for a nap and realized I had forgotten to email the guy I met with yesterday re the old house, so I did that. Ds and friend came back in with food and settled in and ddogs followed them upstairs. Can't remember what else, but then I took dogs out for a potty break and tried for a nap again. Ds and dfriend came back through to ask about the rest of the tasks I had for them, then ds informed me that a (not)ddog had peed upstairs in his room. So I cleaned that up, rebooted the laundry and tried the last time to nap, but never drifted off.

Lucylee's DH - Our SF Giants are playing the Braves in Hot-lanta tonight, so we'll be watching the game. They did not do well in the heat/humidity when they played the Nationals in WDC. They are used to playing in the cold fog - it was 50 degrees the other night at AT+T Park. Do you know the famous quote by Mark Twain, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." Go Giants!

Thinking about Sadie getting ready for her trip. We're leaving on about the same time - July 29 - for our annual week in Monterey, on middle Calif. coast. I want to start packing now to avoid the last minute rush. I like to watch Sadie plan her trip and count the days.

Some day, dh & I would love to go to San Francisco. I know I've told y'all before -- dfil was stationed there in WWII and dmil stayed out there with him. They LOVED it. Not enough to make it their permanent home, of course... which is good, b/c then I would never have met dh... but they always talked about it how much they enjoyed their time there, and encouraged us to go there sometime. So... maybe after I retire...

Well... I got the cleaning & went to the post office... and I need to do other things... but like I said before... my 3-mile walk has just zapped my energy. DH says it is supposed to give me MORE energy, but I don't think that works in this heat.
I could enjoy a nap too.

GO GIANTS! No, Sherinjoy,I agree, our Giants do not do so well in the exteme heat. Maybe tonight will be different, except the Braves are doing so well. (Just so we get ahead and stay ahead of the Dodgers )
We just said goodbye to two of our favorite people, our landlords from AZ. They are headed back home from visit to Oregon and lunch with our other favorites who are part of our Monday Lunch Bunch during our winters in AZ. We hated to say goodbye as we have become so fond of them. They are like family. We are anxious for Dec. 1st to arrive so we are back down there to see them and, of course, Cowinkie and Sweetie.

I've played to much now and it is time to get back to work!
