....random thoughts passing through my head as I work the cards.....

Blessedw2 - what is the junior ring ceremony?

LucyLee - am i remembering right that you wrote/sent all of DMIL thank you cards for her a few months ago?

Helia - your DH seems to have a gift of listening, caring & counselling. Wondering if he has any insight why your DMom doesn't respond to good news about your children.

TADA -
** dog feeder refilled. Will put dog food on buy list. I try to make sure there is a strong fella with me to lift/carry/load/unload the 50lb sacks. I used to do it without batting an eye....but now I'm getting lazy. :)
** Bird food divided into daily containers to scatter out on the yard.

Got all the previous done, but first remembered that I was supposed to put out bag for Purple Heart today and got that onto the onto the porch. (Not really a porch; only slightly more than a stoop.) Checked after doing my items; Purple Heart bag still there, and new phone not there yet. (Did I mention that the new cellphone I got had a bit of a problem -- it wouldn't ring? Wouldn't even vibrate! It would light up when a call was coming in, but I really can't spend all day watching the phone....)

Hope your cards keep you from spinning your wheels today, OKay -- sounds like it's a busy one!

Enjoy your retreat, Bookie!

Sweet dreams, Lynlee -- enjoy your outing tomorrow!

(((Twins - phone call)))

Joining in the card count: 5/24 completed

Next up:
• start laundry
• excavate dining table

See you next TOTH! (So many Hungarians here! ;) Don't know if it's true everywhere or just in the Cleveland area, but if you gathered up all the Nagys, Kishes, and Toths, it seems you'd have half the Hungarian population.)

New phone just arrived -- will do cards before opening!

*Poof!*

Watched the sun rise over the bluffs on the other side of the lake. It was one of those beautiful orange sherbert sunrises. No clouds to add color so just the light coming up. Oh! there was one little fluffy cloud but he didn't show up very much.

We are going to go exploring today. There are some RVs WAY down on the beach - they look like toys from up here - so I would like to find a way to get down there. We want to go find a cafe to have lunch in as we don't have much food with us right now. I'm trying to finish up a lot of it so I won't have that much to move into the house.

In the meantime, I'm going to kick back and read my book. It is so peaceful here and DH is still sleeping.

Okay ~ No, you are not getting lazy. You are diverting all of your energy and strength to the grandkiddos. No one here will argue with your priorities!

Thanks, MysteryWoman. I'm just so tired right now, but I don't want to waste any of the time at the retreat sleeping. Prepping for marathon sewing ...

Emptynester ~ That sounds heavenly.

Wasted some time finishing a sudoku that had me stumped; I figured it out. I am now s2s and drinking cup of tea #2. I called a dfriend in the moms group who is just moving back into her home after repairs from the tornado that whipped through her neighborhood last March - yes, it was highly unusual to have a significant tornado in this area - to see if I could come over and help her with unpacking, etc. since my coffee date cancelled on me. She seemed OK, not jumping on my offer. I don't know her well, and she is a more private person, so I decided not to push it.

I forgot to offer Congratulations to Kathryn's dsil! That is quite an achievement! If he only has some minor edits, he did well.

And I also forgot to offer Congratulations to harriet's ds who likewise did very well on his exams!

KIND OF LONG: That is an interesting question, OK b/c some of the relational issues stem from dh and dmom butting heads early on in our marriage. Both have strong personalities and both are Christians - but are polar opposites in just about everything else, including how they relate with people, operate in social situations, etc. etc. Unfortunately, dmom holds onto things, which is understandable considering her past. Fortunately, dh does not hold onto things; he forgives more readily than anyone I know! Sometimes that is frustrating when I want to remain mad at someone. ;) He has offered some of the same ideas that you ladies have offered up here. In fact, that one day I shared and then you ladies shared some thoughts here was extremely helpful to me. He sees her in the context of having one dd who is doing very well with kids and a dh who are doing well, myself, and one ds who is divorced and struggling a bit and whose dd is mentally disabled. Even more, my cousin's kids, whom dmom has taken under her wings too, may not even be able to go to college b/c of family sitns, funds, farming needs, a sick father, etc. Dmom does very well relating to people who are in tough circumstances, who need her help. She admires people who work up from hard circumstances. I do too! However, we've never been explicitly in that situation - not yet anyway, and I'm not sure she totally knows how to relate to us b/c of that. She is used to being the savior, and I'm not sure she knows how to come alongside someone on equal footing, so to speak. She has also had a lot of hard things come into her life, more than her fair share. Dh does tend to put issues into the larger context of a person's life, and he does that with my dmom, thinking of how events in her life, past and present, might affect how she thinks about us and responds to us all. At times, he has even been her advocate when I've been upset! She would likely be shocked to know that. LOL! I think it is hard for dh, though, b/c he sees how her response to my kids, and sometimes me too, is painful to me, and he therefore wants to protect me. Part of what I've been learning to do is to become stronger and not take things so seriously, not be hurt by responses - b/c it is not helpful for dh OR the relationships if dh is wanting to protect me. I need to be wary of walls that are going up, though. I think our pastor would say it is not good. . . Not sure where to go with that b/c I know I have put up walls around certain topics which I will not discuss w/ her, which seems on the surface to have helped me -- but maybe it is not helpful deeper in my heart? Hmm..... One of those gray areas. Maybe she recognizes that too and it bothers her; for example, I have never asked her for parenting advice, though I will ask her for advice on all sorts of practical issues! I also know that partially, it is just the way she and ddad are. They have not historically been ones to ask a lot of questions. --I could go on, lots of water is under the bridge, so to speak. Lots of misunderstandings and assumptions have taken place on both sides, I'm sure. I would not be surprised if one asked my dmom about this, and she said it was somehow our fault, perhaps a negative past interaction we'd had over the kids or something. Walls are likely up everywhere. But I love my dmom and am committed to keeping up a relationship the best I can. I'm also thankful for my brother! I talked to him on the phone a week ago, and he DID ask about ds and his transition to college, etc!! That meant so much to me, just his asking about one of my kids. I need to tell him that! And he was the one who finally asked the question last spring: Where is ds going to college? --*phew* That was a lot!

Dh has said that he did ponder becoming a psychologist at some point in his life, I don't remember exactly when.

OK, on to finish the a.m. routine. I think there was more I wanted to respond to, but I can't remember now and I should go be productive!!

Got the previous done. Feeling slightly green around the gills -- whatever had my stomach so sour last night seems to be working its way down my digestive tract, and now I have a belly ache. :(

Next up:
• call cell provider to get service transferred to the new phone
• tidy the couch & coffee table
• check on the playroom
• flip the wash

Card count: 7/24
