Oh, Bookie, I know that feeling well. So well that we now have everything backed up to the cloud every night. It costs a bit - but my peace of mind is wonderful.

Been MIA for a couple days as a lot has been going on here - or rather not here as we have been out and about.

I just put up my blog with pictures of all the new "stuff" that I got this summer.

Now it is time to jump in the shower and get ready to head up the hill to church.

Bookie.... I'd be glad to share my coffee with you this morning, but I'm drinking tea.

I do remember Hurricane Hazel though I too was a little girl. It hit in Oct of 1954. My parents owned a small beach home and I remember walkin on the boardwalk after the storm.

My home town has two rivers on either side of us that feed into the Atlantic, which is 5 miles from my home. All this area was settled by Europeans in 1631 so it's been around a long time. I do expect this storm should the weather conditions remain the same to be a record breaker. The subways, bridges and tunnels leading into NYC are being closed down. As far as I know that has never happened.

There are many, many old time fishermen and hunters in my area who have weathered many big storms... My dad used to be one of them. They are commenting on the severity of the storm. My dad was usually right when predicting how bad the storms were going to be so I'm listening to them.

I think loosing power will cause the biggest problem....gas pumps won't work nor will cash registers or ATM machines. And if the outage is as big and lasts as long as they are predicting ...... One to two weeks in 5 states..I was wondering out loud to Sweetie this morning if the election can be postponed.

My mom will be in the eye of it as well as my brother and as long as ican communicate with them I'll know just how bad it is.

Need to make more tea.... Gonna have an easy day today. Cy'all later..

Good morning. Have little time just now but wanted to pop in and say I am praying for all who are in the path of Sandy. Besides my SHE friends who are, I have several family members who may be impacted. Particularly a grandson in the Tidewater area and a daughter in the NYC area. Gotta go finish getting ready for church.

Good morning! I'm just barely cuop, so please understand & forgive me --
Dgs was with us Friday night, then we were gone all day yesterday for ballgame (if you want to call it that! It was probably more like a practice scrimmage for Texas A&M ) -- so I'm far, far behind.
Two thoughts I retained from my quick cuop --

What does being "booed" mean, Twins?

We slept in this morning. Got home @ 1:00 a.m., but it is harder for dh to get going after a late night that involved almost 400 miles driving than after a late night that involved only a movie.
I feel a little guilty, but I told ddil I didn't know how much good we'd be to her this afternoon. DS has been gone every weekend, and she has been alone w/dgs, and it has started to become a habit to ask us to take dgs on Sunday afternoon. The thing is, after Saturday's ballgame, dh just can't hardly get through his Sunday without a long nap... and dgs doesn't allow for much naptime right now.
OTOH -- right after I told her that -- I added, "But do call us if you need us..." * sigh *
I'm just sooo thrilled that they live HERE & not 6 hours away that I never want her to feel like, "If MY mom were here, SHE would help..."
* sigh *

The ballgame yesterday. Oh my. Well, at least we saw history being made. The most points scored against us since 1917. This season is just becoming comical. At least I won't have to worry about a hectic New Year's Day bowl trip, right? LOL. It's embarrassing, but I think even the fans of the "other" school feel sorry for us. I don't even hear much "trash talk" at school. In other seasons, sometimes it's really been bad b/c probably 90% of our students cheer for the other state school. This year, they are strangely silent for the most part.

CAN the election be postponed? What sort of legislative action is required for that to happen?

Oh shoot, just realized that this Thursday is the 1st so I will have a meeting this week to prep after all. Oh well, most of the bookkeeping is updated already because I sent out a report after Saturday's big event at the library. Will need to update a couple of line items and send out the formal report, but that can't be done before Wednesday anyway. I am reminded, though, that the bank still is not allowing me to see online statements and I need to get that fixed.

Emptynester ~ Great blog entries! I got a kick out of the idea of using a flame thrower on persistant weeds. I'd probably get arrested here in Tiny Town, though. Glad your backs are feeling better. Gorgeous new table!

Cowinkie ~ I drink tea as well, but for me tea is more of an afternoon or evening drink for cold nights. Coffee with lots of milk in the morning.

Good question about the election in a power outage. Assuming the polling places can run on emergency generators ... how would the disruptions that people would have in their homes affect whether or not they would go out to vote?

Called my best friend last night. Since her dad died almost 3 years ago, she has shut the world out a bit. She cancelled the newspaper and a lot of cable channels. She doesn't watch tv news or listen to news on the radio. She doesn't watch the weather channel... So I called her last night to ask if she had heard about the coming storm because I wanted her to be a bit prepared. I know she has a lot of patio furniture and an umbrella and I thought she should at least know so she could put the chairs in the shed or take the umbrella down. We are supposed to be getting a lot of rain and high winds in the Toronto area. The path of the storm is very similar to Hurricane Hazel which was in 1954. Any way... she isn't going to tie anything down or put anything away.

Dh and I are as ready as possible. There are numerous large trees around us and nothing I can do about our car or dd's. Cell phones are charged and we have 2 flashlights. Numerous candles. We only have one fridge to worry about.

The answer is yes, the election date can be changed. The congress chooses the date the the country votes for it's leaders. So IF this storm is declared a national diaster the congress could postpone the election to a different date. This is one of the reason we vote in nov but the winner of the election doesn't take office till Jan 20th. It is not only the matter of the voting machines not being powered. But also without electricity many voters may have a difficult time getting to the poles. And then those people might sue because their right to vote wasn't able to happen. And then others would oppose the outcome of the election declaring it wasn't legal... Can of worms

But the US constitution provides laws to address these questions. When you think about it our forefathers were pretty amazing when predicting unforeseeable problems that effected our rights. After all there was nothing called electricity 234 yrs ago.

Abe Lincoln chose to hold the presidential election even though the civil was was going on. States have the right to change their state voting day...that happened with NY after 9/11

Thinking of those of you in the path of Sandy reminds me to get prep. stuff gathered for those just in case times. I have been stocking up on canned goods for winter.

A sad day here two roos are leaving b/c they were fighting one was a fav. got the worst of it bloodied up so I caught 'em separated 'em and boxed them up the breeder will come and pick them up and give me a refund. Not up to doing freezer camp today with hubby's foot issues. ~VBsigh~
We have missed church as well.

Okay moving on I have a plan for lunch.
Will be heading out for a walk after a bit.
