U.S. Election Day Tuesday

Late getting here....took gd14 to school. What a nightmare that was getting back to the school. Had a note home yesterday that we needed to be 'patient' as the church (where school is located) is also a polling place. I've never seen so many cars in one place! They were parked everywhere! Have a hard time believing they were all there for voting but maybe.

Went from school to gas up and put a little food in our tummies. Need to do a grocry run for breakfast things for us. Don't think sugary cereals will do it.

I've been spending all my time since returning to the house, working on our health care coverage for 2013. Just realized we have to 'choose' before Nov. 9th! Unfortunately, there is very little info included with the choice papers this year. For some reason B lue C hoice is 1/2 the amount we're paying for our present insurance M V P. But I've gotten nowhere trying to get at information to explain the difference. We're about at the point of figuring just go with what we have for this year. Have a feeling the other has a high deductible, whereas we have none. But I can't find that out. Put some info in a website thinking I was going to BC, and immediately (and I mean IMMEDIATELY) had a phone call. She said we could probably expect 20 or so.

Have to get DH's clothes & things around to take to his DB's in a while. He's spending the night over there and going to a nearby flea market with DBIL in the morning. GD has early dismissal tomorrrow so will pick her up around noon and then go get dh. We've been taking her to school so far. Easier on dsil I think.

Today I am going to set up the sewing center of my craft room/den. I have several projects I want to work on. I have some pillow covers for the day bed all pinned together so want to get them sewn. Also a tool roll for DH for his carving tools. I would like to get an old pair of levies made into an apron if I can find the material to trim it with. OF COURSE, all of this depends on if I can find my stash of material.

First I'd better go eat as I can feel my BS heading to my toes.

Hope you all have a great voting day - we voted absentee a while back. But we still have to watch the AZ ads on TV even tho we voted in SD. Get the SD phone calls, however.

Walked with dfriend for an hour. We had good conversations; I can talk to her about what is going on in my heart -- good and bad - and she can relate to some of my issues. We are very different in many ways, which is helpful. She is BO. I am not, though we didn't talk about organizational type stuff today. She is also about 10 years older than me, so I look to her for wisdom and advice in some areas. In terms of parenting, we have similar styles, and she is a step ahead of me b/c her kids are older. En route home, I stopped by my polling place, which is a neighborhood church. No lines, I was surprised. They had an awful large number of booths set up though, and they were mostly full. It helped to have thought through the local proposals beforehand.

Now, I'm having lunch and working on the a.m. routine and laundry. Dd14 has gone to a friend's house; I'll need to pick her up at some point.

Dee, we have BCN insurance through the Univ. and we are very happy with it. I don't know if it is the same BC you're talking about, though -- or if it is administered differently b/c of the U. Unfortunately, I don't know details, like the monthly premium. I just know how it works w/ the medical offices here and meds, etc.

Possibly a quiet day in the village (or did I bore everyone away). I had to wait and lurk for a parking space and the line was about 20 feet out of the building. Not too bad. I've seen worse, but it was before we had early-voting. Of course, it was also before we had our rampant growth, so very hard to determine what's really a big election turnout and what's just the press of people.

The fellow ahead of us had brought his son who is in dd's class and a friend of some of her friends though she has barely met him. I was pleased to see that she walked right up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder without hesitation and began a conversation. She has developed much more confidence around her own age group.

We went on to the mail/office place and they took the package for me, to return to the catalog place. The return cost is $7 and the initial cost was considerably more, so of course a reminded it is not always cheap to shop by catalog, and doesn't guarantee you won't have to travel, either. Grabbed a chicken sandwich on the way home for HRH, who stayed with my ddad.

Frustrated that I was not able to talk one of dd's younger friends' mothers out of dropping her off here today. Dd is extremely busy on this one day off school but this child is not yet in high school and doesn't have the same deadlines at all, I don't think. Call came in shortly after we'd gotten home and we'd already taken extra time on errands. Really caught me off guard. It started out as a request for a one hour visit here and ended up at 1.5 hours. Plus before the mother got off the phone I noticed how much she was sniffing and mentioned it and she gigglingly said yes, they have colds!!! Grrrrr! There is eldercare going on here 24-7 and we need time to think out visiting plans. It's not a giggly matter, really, when a child has a cold around my ddad. I need to be more assertive.

After dgd16 test, I bought some groceries, ran a quick errand and I'm home for the day. Better get to cleaning...............

Busy day today. I've been trying to get chores done first so I can concentrate the rest of the day on getting ready for tonight's meeting. Once I finish washing some dishes, I'll be at a stopping point for the household/3Ds part of the day.

5x5 to start after lunch:
1) Local errands including stop to vote
2) Make sure there is room in the car for stuff I have to take to the meeting
3) Finish agenda and speech for tonight's meeting
4) Sewing group filing, always feels endless
5) Change into skirt, fix hair

This morning I have not been erasing political messages from the machine. I am curious to see how many we will get by the end of the night.

dnancy hope you and dgs feel better (that's probably why you couldn't walk far - getting sick)

dharriet.. that was inconsiderate and I understand being around elderly with colds. I babysat for a cute little girl; her mother brought her over with a fever and really sick and before I knew it she left (she had meetings), dd younger was a also a toddler and I didn't have any other children that day, older dd was in school. This little girl was so sick that she sat on my lap all day - it was so sad. I called her mom and she still wouldn't come until 6 pm. being insistent I have learned is not being impolite but necessary when another person can't read the signals or understand others needs ((()))

Harriet, Oh, talk about rude people! It's NOT a giggly thing! Kids and any adult, especially the elderly don't need to be around sick kids. It's not a joke!

Helia, That's great that you walked with your dfriend and were able to talk about what's on your heart, too. We need friends like that to lean on sometimes. My dfriend is 97 now. What a love. Wisdom, compassion, acceptance and the whole nine yards. Can talk about anything. dfriends like that are to be treasured.

Dee, Sorry about all the cars while dropping dgd 14 off to school. Thankfully it's one day. Not every day. Good luck on health coverage for 2013, too.

Emptynester, You have some really nice project plans to do. What is a tool roll for carving? Never heard of that. A denim apron sounds great!

DH and I voted early and returned the ballots to the ballot box, where they pick up daily, last Thursday.

- Read on "The Writer's Market" and get out another one to read on. Take notes from them, for learning more.
- Will crochet on grson's afghan while election coverage is on from 3:30 p.m. to bedtime.
- Address envelopes and decorate them pretty, too.

We were out early to vote, and there was a line up alongside the building, a school, but we were in and out in about an hour, not too bad. There was no line by the time we came out, I guess we caught the first rush of the day. They were a little alarmed at my wandering around trying to find someone to answer a question with my filled out ballot. They watched me like a hawk. I wanted to know why my ballot was different from the sample one I'd received. I guess all the studying I did yesterday was a waste of time, there was stuff on the sample ballot outside my district and I did not get to vote on it. So.

Phone calls will be stopping, yay. Even the taped messages from Pa t Bo on e!

Did some paperwork, sent out a statement for DH, and have been quilting away. It's a grey rainy day here.

Too bad another storm coming through in Sandy lands. I know how hard that is. Too bad people don't seem to be getting the help they need. People need a huge amount of patience after such an event. But they are out of water in places? That sounds very bad.
