blessed, I'm sorry your weather is changing tradition there!
We had a very pleasant church service today. I thought of Kathryn as there were several moments of ministerial amusement. The minister brought out a manger-ish contraption and told the children he'd filled it with "dirty old hay from Jim's barn". Well, I was right behind Jim so I leaned forward and whispered to tease him - couldn't he have brought some sweet hay? (I'm sure he did, lol, but all hay is a little dusty of course.) The minister said, "Anyway, I think we can say Mary probably laid Jesus in hay like this." Then he corrected himself. He told the children, "Actually, I have no idea if this is like it or not, but we're doing the best we can." Children loved this. He began to recite the scriptures before the shepherd and angels story, in a very monotonous tone almost as if he wanted to lose the children's attention - none of the children was paying attention. Then he flung out his hands and shouted, "AND SUDDENLY"! And all the children gasped. "And you better believe they were terrified. You would be, too!"
The mini choir sat directly in front of me before they went forward to sing after the children's message. So one hymn was sung during that time and then an announcement of wanting volunteers for more members of that choir during the season. Jim and the other tenor pointed back at me. That's very sweet, and I appreciated that they were saying I was singing well at that time. But they don't know the handicap I would be if I got emotional.
Dstepson is here working with HRH now on some projects. He's already had lunch, so I'm just fixing baked potatoes.
Dd14 needs to turn her attention to engineering again, and also straighten her room.
I've renewed a prescription. Have decided that tomorrow needs to be Desk Day for our household. Also decorating needs to start.
Films - If I'm going to purchase entertainment it needs to be uplifiting in some way: cheerful probably, meaningful without cheer, possibly. Otherwise, the value is just a dime a dozen and I would feel cheated. Harshness for harshness' sake would be given away for the hauling by anyone who thought they could rid themselves of it.

Schedule.... well mine has too many holes shot into to be of any use.
I know there's a load of laundry in the washer, waiting to be hung up. I remember starting that before church.
Then things got hectic!
First service - remembered to drop off choir folders, old anthems we had hoarded and dh and I led carols before the service and then stayed for the anthem. Dh lost his copy of the anthem so there was a scramble during the opening.
Second service: got there way early. My headache was bad (had taken something before leaving home) but a bit of quiet by ourselves in the church helped. I got the Sunday School room set up and then dh and I practiced a Capella hymns for this week's singing. Got a rave review from an early arriving couple.
Service went fine until I left (no idea what happened after that.) Sunday School was a challenge (7 boys, 2 girls) but I had the right amount of material and got them whipped into behaving for their choir practice part. I put on music while we were doing the craft to quiet them down and it worked - I had to turn the music down after a while because they had quieted down themselves.
After church was coffee hour and I found myself having to make a list of all I have to do next week in the service. Actually, it is everything except the sermon and the blessing. I'll start the service (there's a baptism at the first service so it will run overtime), I'm doing a duet with dh for the anthem, the children's time, the readings and the prayers. The week after I'm teaching Sunday School again.
Dh wanted to go out for lunch so we picked up ds and went to the diner. I worked on finding hymns for the 30th and making notes for the prayers next week.
When we got home, dh and I thought over what we wanted to do to prepare for the singing this week. I realized that I really wanted to retype the lyric sheets we hand out, so we compromised and I'm doing half the work this year. I'll do the second half next year. The work has to be redone from scratch because we originally produced these 20+ years ago and don't have the computer files anymore. I didn't have to type things because I could find them on the internet, but I had to copy, paste and format the same as the existing sheets. The first draft is done for dh's approval.
Now I'm going to hang up that laundry, start another load in the washer and have a short lie down. Dinner will be late tonight because we didn't eat lunch until 2.
Ds is very, very, tired today and was only out of bed for a short period of time. I'm guessing the prednizone is wearing off now that his doses are over (today was just 1/4 the original dose.) That, combined with busy day yesterday have knocked him out.

The nap is about as far as I've gotten, and we have to go to Wmart tonight, instead of tomorrow, b/c we'll be keeping dgs all day tomorrow -- at least, dh will have him from 8-3, and then I'll be home from school to help.
DH does not want to take him to Wmart, partly b/c we are predicted to get 3 inches of rain tomorrow!
So that is our Monday plan... dgs... and call car dealer to see about getting this SUV fixed... take it to them if it will start
Tuesday... dh & ds will be singing at local nursing home... I have school np to sell in the morning... may come home @ lunch to take care of getting SUV towed to dealer while dh is gone
Wednesday... hmmm... nothing?
Thursday... 2 candlelight services in town, 1 @ hospital, 1 @ funeral home. We got invitations b/c dfriend made memorial to dfil @ one of them and the other (funeral home), I think, just invited everyone whose service they had done this past year. Our preacher is speaking at that one and dmil wants to go to both, so we'll be taking her.
Friday... Hooray. One more week of school!
In the meantime I really MUST get Christmas cards addressed & signed... and prepare exams... and start wrapping presents! AND finish shopping. I am at a total loss re: dbro & dnephew! I know they will both get mostly money, but I need to spend about $30 on each of them, anyway.

Church this morning was wonderful. During the singing portion of the service I sat with 5 family members. We sat in front of a couple who can sing UNBELIEVABLY beautiful. When sitting in the congregation with their 3 little ones, they sing very softly because their voices are so powerful. When they sing a solo or duet they turn their voices loose and they shake the rafters. Listening to them sing at any volume always gives me goose bumps and my hair actually stands up.
I am positive they could tour and be wildly successful, however they want to devote themselves to being full-time parents while their children are young.
After church we stayed for an extra hour so LO could practice Christmas play, then we had lunch at our favorite local cafe.
On our way home we dropped off a donation check for local special needs school and another stop at local convenience store with 100 one dollar bills.
The owner called in a panic because he was out of 1's and the bank is closed.
then we all took a 2 hour nap. Wonderful Sunday!
This next week schedule is rare in that it is almost bare. Beside the normal MPB, DParents and LO school doings....
Tuesday - going to big city to do some shopping with the 4 generations.
Wednesday - church
Friday - FNG @ T&L
Saturday - DGD1 birthday party at our home. DSon and family will be here sat/sun
Sunday - LO's Christmas play
Harmony - I haven't rode the camel yet, but I intend to ASAP. If the weather is nice Saturday night it would make a fun activity to do with DSon and family

My day is all upside down. Had another of my "white nights" last night. Awake most of the night so we didn't go to church.
Company left about 11 and then I covered up in my big chair with the TV on and slept like a baby for several hours.
We will go to Activities Center in a bit for ice cream and then come back to the left over veggie soup for dinner tonight.
Got some computer things out of the way and was glad of that. Still have to print off Christmas letter. But I might wait until tomorrow to see if I can get the paper and labels I want a the store.
Need to finish cutting out Christmas ornament on the jig saw. Then carve and paint them. I only have 3 to do for our big kids - DH is doing the 6 for the DGDs. His are almost done - just has to paint and do a bit of carving on the last 2.
I am reading a decluttering book and am going to get moving on the den. Right after Christmas we have to get moving on getting ready for the remodel. I want the den to be cleaned so we can put stuff in there. All the living room and kitchen must be cleared out as well as the cabinets in the bath. I'm glad we have a MH to move into during the chaos.

I am home again after a long day - for the record, let's say two or so hours drive to ATL and that is one way. I got there early so had lunch and went back to hospital. Saw dsis and both of us met w social worker. Thank goodness no estimate yet on discharging her. She was pleased to see me; I did go and purchase some pants and shirts for her and dropped them back off after the meeting and visiting - she was still wearing pajama bottoms that dniece purchased that she put on over a week ago, and they had given her a shirt that was very oversized on her.
I skipped the community Hanukkah party tonight - could have gotten there not long after it started but was pretty tired, and certainly don't feel like a lot of people right now. I asked dh to bring me some latkes - I'm not worried about their baked chicken or green beans, but some latkes would hit the spot.

I just lit Hanukkah candles and still need to walk the ddogs as dh hadn't done it. He did get groceries and rearrange the not-so-great room, and it looks better, although I did tweek it a little.
I told him that my Hanukkah gift was the tobacco basket I purchased for myself, and his part of the gift was letting me hang it where I want.
