Bump....bump....bumps....in the road.

Deep breathe....I knew it wouldn't go perfectly. Taking deep breathe and continuing on with my plan.

Logging ....food, water, sleep, exercise

Yesterdays bumps -
** Muffin at DMom's house. She asked me to try her new muffin recipe (they just came out of the oven).
** Rice with DGS15 & DGS17. Eating lunch with them....they kept insisting that I needed to try the rice. Best rice they ever ate.
** Mexican food restaurant with DH & LO after late night repairs finished. HUNGRY after working 7.5 hours with the salad eaten at lunch being a distant memory.

Keeping on.....

Congratulations to all. I hope by the end of the month there will be bragging :D and also that we'll all feel better. Holidays are not always so good for us and can mean we feel lethargic and tired. January is a good month to pull out of that cycle.

I have family obstacles to get past as well, OKay. I will have just eaten a small meal thinking that was it for hours, and HRH will surprise me by getting home early and wanting to cook, or even having brought take-out. Or he'll feel guilt because he thinks dd needs a big meal or wants something not-so-good (like pizza last night) and he'll dive in and provide for her. (He has a "provider" mindset and she's a growing teen, lol, bad combination.) They do equate eating with family time, which is a good thing. But often I shouldn't join in, so am torn between being a part of things or eating right. HRH is much more of a cook than a cleaner-upper, which is fine in sharing chores. But if he does cook and it's not a smart choice for me, I have to come to grips with penalizing myself with extra kitchen clean-up (and space-use) if I cook for myself, too, rather than joining in the family meal. Add to that the additional puzzle of HRH's diet needing to be different from mine in some ways, and I can certainly have a weight-gain day of eating.

I think we have to pull and tug the rest of the family along with us when we choose to eat in a different way!

I've been surprised that having protein breakfasts since our houseguests left hasn't yet taken away cravings lately. I need to rescue myself from holiday eating decisions, and usually having omelets, etc. as breakfasts or brunch will send me in the right direction. But this time since the holidays I can have an omelet and be craving carbs within minutes. Guess it's just going to take time. Hmmm... ...These dear neighbors and friends in our lives who work so hard to get us gifts of homemade fudges, cookies, holiday breads. Sigh. The effects last longer than they know. "The proof of that thinking is sitting here in my chair." lol, Cowinkie.

Lynlee, I think they put sugar in cranberries purely for taste. Oh, I agree that sweet potatoes are virtuous, and kind, and good, and helpful, and courteous. They are on my short list of go-to foods when I don't have much time to plan a snack or quick small meal.

Cowinkie, I think that's wonderful about your friend and it must really inspire you. I was confused as to why no fat, though? Is is just no animal fat? She can at least have the fat in nuts,/veggie/fruits I hope, and maybe fish?

While our Christmas party was going on, the 2 toddlers somehow pushed buttons or something - who knows - that took all audio away from our DVD/VCR and computer area in the living room and HRH still hasn't been able to fix it. So some specific exercises I was planning to try have been out. Rain sleet and cold outside of course, but I still have the alternative of exercising in our bedroom, which of course has been used as a staging area for decor/wrapping/gifts. I really can't get all that organized and put away fast enough! I've got to try to keep up with Nancy! ;)

Scale today: 143.6
Stayed on the program yesterday. Realized I haven't eaten my breakfast yet...need to do that before I run my errands. Waked a mile extra yesterday. Need to get Sweetie to help start up my pedometer.

Harriet...no fat as in butter or oils. I have a salad dressing I use that is 0 calories and fats. My mom turned me on to it. Its called Walden's Farm and can be found in most grocery stores around here. I use it to cook with as well.

Really missing the dairy in my coffee, but loosing the weight is better. I almost cheated last night, but talked myself out of it ;)

Gotta go.............

Admission time. you will need to adjust the spacing to read.
Some of you will remember 6 yrs ago I stopped going to a 12 st spin off group called g row. I ended up going to the source of that group in a a ther group. After 2 years I realised it helped to a degree but I was still having that i'm different, want what "everyone else eats' with all the evidence for taking in that meeting kitchen. And I did with intermittant trying not too. and giving in.
Finally I faced the facts
that since I'd stopped being strict some 17 years before at another onset of doing what "everyone else " did one week end away and never fully been able to keep to the no no no part of what helps me and my brain guts muscles nerves thoughts ibs migraine chronic fatigue fibro myalga bladder allergy intollerances etc I had had ongoing battles w the crazies, hospitalization in the 90s, pain etc etc and I could stop but not stay stoppped.
the a a way finally got me to see I could I apply those 12 st eps to my other health woes - just to check out the coincidence of onset and continuance of those symptoms. as an experiment. Any way it worked. I cannot say I've never had another thing from the no no no list. But I was able to see the error of that way - feel the pain literally - and jump back on the no no no diet way.
An example Even at christmas. dd says - can you have the gravy - its made w corn flour. I said yes. the next day dgd told me about all the roast veg in there - inc the potato. On this occassion I didn't get the uncontrollable "windy" smelly result but that and more - erk much more - can result from me and potato. Even when I try to eat around it. Or just a little thinking theres not much potato in a "chip" or 6.
Point is I know its a pain to do, but its to avoid the pain elsewhere.
Psychology - Its still a work in progress on those underlying mind problems. But much better than it was. Body wise - heaps better.

check out http://www.fedup.com.au
There are additives allowed in US and Australia that are banned elsewhere for there harmful effects. the video link in that top slide show is worth a look. Also the latest newsletter. It has bits on the elderly, arythmia, ibs, rashes, ibs as well as the difficult kids and food problems. Great fact sheets w % of people affected with different intolerances w various symptoms.
If anyone was interested in trying the elimination diet I'd suggest http://dietinvestigation.com/ way of approaching it. I saw her when my kids were young and she has a more graduated approach rather than the royal prince alfred hospital approach. Just to find something managable that helps. It suits me better to take out less of the salicylates, and be strict with other things the failsafe things allows but don't help me. So I follow more of the Joan Breakey method.
Let me know if you want to talk about "it".
Just begin.

I hear you LynnL. I have skipped things to attend this holiday season b/c of the battles with "no no" foods as you put it.

Nancy nodding
at christmas - mostly I was good - except when I was inadvertantly "wrong". Then of course there was the gluten free, dried fruit laden, sugar high mini plum pudding. I still have its twin I'm sure to eat at some stage. Maybe on my birthday. I'll make it away from other "exceptions  hopefully".

The first 26 pages of the Joan Breakey bookare available to read . I just read thru. Theres a lot about the approach to the "detective work" and sifting thru research that has been done. http://dietinvestigation.com/are-you-food-sensitive.asp

I was seeing her when she was visiting child guidance clinics around brisbane. Though I don't think we were part of her research trial. except by listening to my family stories, and she was a great support with her book of "likely allowed food" pictures and brands. And telling me / suggesting things to "give a little" about.
I seem more sensitive these days than I was then. Or maybe thats the effect of 17 years eating more often than not, what I ortnot. Hoping some things can ease off a bit in time.

Anyway - gl if you decide to look at it.
Just begin.

LynLee - that is most interesting! Thanks for sharing. I need to ponder upon it.

Keeping on....
Logging food, water, sleep & exercise

Scales down .6 pounds today. That makes 6 lbs lost in 20 days. I am a little off track but still hopeful that I can stay with my goal of losing 2 lbs weekly.

Thank you, Lynlee. How cool to see websites from a professional who's actually been met by someone I know. This will be my reading sometime through the weekend.

Great job to our losers, OKay and Cowinkie.

Printing out the family's Saturday "job jars" and had a thought... ...

I am handing over to HRH the "job" of creating some healthy menus that will work for his own health needs, but won't cause weight gain with breads, sugars. I'm not sure how he'll do with this - he is usually very spontaneous, but we need to have plans, and with his input right up front. If this doesn't give us a better result than we've had lately, I'm going to sit him down and discuss Nu tri System for him again, at least, if not threaten to do it with him. Those NS dollar signs are a huge wake-up call, of course, not because they are excessively expensive, but because you commit in advance and then are obligated to eat the meals even if you have a better idea later.
