Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain.....went to sleep with the window open, woke to the wonderful smell and sound of rain.

I love everyones every day stories....we're like a continuing novellet. I am totally safisfied with my life and surrounding. If my house burnt down today, all I would grab are my picture box and my jewelry. After moving so many times I've learned not to be emotionally attached to any thing. I have one child and there are only a very few things of mine he wants. I'm find with that.

I love giving things to GW ....I think of it as a place to take my stuff that other will enjoy. I have 6 matching coffee mugs that I use all the time. I have one good set china that I use occasionally. I am fast becoming a minimalist and love the freedom I feel. There was a time in my life when I was a corporate executive's wife and had to frequently entertain within my home. I don't live that kind of life any more so I don't need all my "tools" like before.

Kathryn what I have learned about retiring is no matter what your budge it is and no matter how well you live with in it, it only takes a few unplanned events to mess things up. Within 6 weeks I had to spend $2,800. $1200 on my car and the balance on my tooth. Though I had plenty in the bank it made me realize how close a fiscal cliff could be. That why I decided to. Sub.I will be able to do all my traveling plus put some extra into savings.

I am very excited about my day. I am attending a small gathering to listen to a Holocuast speaker. He was a young boy who survived the camps. His children were finally able to convince him to write a book about his experiences.

Need to get rolling here, I've spent far too long in front of the computer. DH is gone to Torah study and will run an errand after that. I think we are going to go to Costco this afternoon - it opened in this area a couple of years back and we never joined, at least in part because it was so far from where we lived before. We'll walk through this afternoon and see. And there's the fundraiser thingie tonight. Dh is on this board, and as an introvert, these things make me crazy sometimes. Thinking I'll wear pants, as I believe it is "business casual." For next week's deal I need a pedicure and appropriate looking legs.

My problem is that dh spends money he has not yet (and may never) earn. So when it comes to booking cruises, he keeps telling me to go ahead because of the NZ contract (which we don't yet have) and he's not worried about anything because we have all the savings. He's right about the savings, not right about spending on big ticket items (i.e. he says since he retired he's earned enough for 3 cruises, but forgets we have taken 3 cruises and bought a car with that money already.) So he either spends money he doesn't yet have or spends money he did earn 'twice' (in his mind, I control the books, tightly.) Today he told me that $8k of the retainer can be spent (he has earned it) and to use that for payroll but I'll need that to pay the insurance on the company in April so can't use it now.

At least I've talked to him about my concerns. It is a start. A better start will be getting the books up to date.

Instead, I cleaned my bathrooms, put out clean towels and deep cleaned my bite-guard. The latter I'm not doing often enough, I should not be shocked by the change in its appearance!

I used toilet cleaning gel for the first time. I haven't used anything designed for toilets for decades (I stopped when dd was a baby and switched to laundry detergent and now I'm down to ancient shampoo having used up all the bubble bath the kids had when they were little.) I read somewhere that the soapy bubbles are just psychological, it is the physical scrubbing that matters, so that's why I use anything that suds. I'll go back to my old way of doing things because the smell of the cleaning products has given me a bad headache and sore throat. I forgot how sensitive I am to these things. I was just focused on germs after ds was here and the cleaning stuff went on sale. I will save the bottle (it is one of those under-the-rim ones) and use it with vinegar and water when the gel is out of it. BTW: the toilets look no cleaner now than usual, including under the rim.

The bathroom fans will be running all day today.

This past Christmas my dad gave me some pictures of my mom and brother. They both died when I was a child and the pictures were from before I was born, but I got way more from a few pictures than I would have if he had just given me a box full of all kinds of pictures of relatives I didn't know or something. My dad also gave me the necklace my mom is wearing in her wedding picture. It is a rhinestone necklace and probably not worth much, but the fact that it was saved since 1952 (60 years) makes it valuable to me.

My dd has told dh and I many, many times that she doesn't want "anything" from our home. We have antiques and original oil paintings and thousands of photographs and a china cabinet crammed with stuff (but NO china) and at the age of 26 she has no interest in any of it.

China~One night after Mike's parents left our place after dinner, Mike and I were doing the dishes and cleaning up. I was getting down on the floor to put the dishes away and Mike asked "Why don't we just use these every day?" So starting that night we got rid of our day-to-day stuff and started using the "good" stuff for us. That was probably about 10 years ago. It's all gone now because we never replaced anything as it broke or chipped.

Teacups~I have one. It was my step-grandmothers. It says "October" on it and I was the only female in the family thatwas born in October. I use it on my birthday and then it goes away for another year.

I too spend money I don't have and am trying hard to learn to curb my enthusiasm for my hobbies and eating out as it is unfair and selfish to my family. Thats why I come here to talk me out of bad decisions. I know it's that little brat in me that I have to learn to say no to.

DH is off to return the humidifier, which will not work, no matter what he does to it! He's going to look at a more expensive model, which I wish he wouldn't. The eye specialist said he got his for $6.10 and it works great. DH is looking at an $80 one! I guess it shows that he must love me an awful lot and he wants something good and something that will work and last for us, for years, too.

It's dry and cloudy here, with the forecast for thunder and lightning for some places this afternoon.

I'm almost done filing pen pals' labels into a small box and little articles, calendar pages, which are cute puppies and friends, Bible Verses, and Argyle Sweater, to put into pen pals' envelopes, to add a little "something" to a letter. It makes pen palling fun and sometimes I'll send stickers, too.

I have 1 china set for 12 and 12 cups to match. We don't use it because with 7 grsons, I'm scared to use it! I have used it once or twice with DH and myself and DH, DD, Dgson, and myself. It's white with a silver rim and a light grey rose and leaves and stems on the rose. I forgot the pattern name. Nana never used it either, except for my wedding reception, which we had 2 months after my wedding. What can I say? DH and I met, we fell MADLY in love! ♥ ♥ And we got married 6 weeks later- and I wasn't even p.g.! We've been married 42 1/2 years now. Dmom about croaked when I married DH after only knowing him 6 weeks, but I just "knew" and I did, I'm so glad, and now that I'm 61, I certainly can understand where Dmom would have been so scared I was making a huge mistake. So Nana used the good china then.

I'm satisfied this Saturday, but there could be an improvement with the pitted corneas, so maybe I'm not 100% satisfied. I'm happy with family, money, crafting supplies, but I could declutter more. I am working on a donation box again. I'm satisfied with my life, friends, job, where I live, etc.... And I'm satisfied with my china, too. I might start using it here and there, for DH and me, just to make certain meals special for us. ♥

Somehow I jumped into creating the cards rather than doing my time-sheet. Gonna use Mail Merge and hopefully get them printing in the next 15 minutes, then I will do my time-sheet.

I slept late this morning. So late that I was the last one up! That almost never happens.

The weather is absolutely beautiful! No wind. Sunny and about 60 degrees. Everyone has spent the morning outside. DH at MPB doing more repairs. LO and I have been burning wood, loading and hauling wheel barrow loads of organic matter from the loafing sheds to the garden, disassembling a raised garden bed that I'm going to move somewhere else or give away and last but not least running the mini cultivator in the garden.

i am absolutely feed up with not being able to use the cultivator when i have time because I can't get it to start (pulling the rope). When DH is here he starts it for me, but much of the time that isn't an option. This morning I read the reviews and ordered a electric rototiller/cultivator. The garden always gives back more $$ than I put into it so I expect this will pay for itself quickly.
