I do believe I've been in countries that don't use pennies -- i can't remember now if they were European or Australia??? Or even Asian?? Maybe Lynlee could comment on Australia. I'm remembering fuzzily, but I think prices did reflect pennies (like $1.57) but payment did not -- but I seem to remember payment was rounded to the nearest 5 cents, not automatically up. So, in the long run, with some purchases rounded up and some rounded down, it probably evened out. --I wonder if Kathryn could comment on other countries too.

personally I wish they just had nickels and up with no pennies in the price or payment. I also like the dollar coins rather than the dollars but that's just me.

today dd younger has a doctor appointment and we both have to get our computers fixed.

the washing machine is getting fixed at 3 pm yeah

Waving to blessed and everyone!
I'm up dressed
journaling is done
h. made the bed
Chickens had water and have been fed no eggs yet today. H. started working on more top nest boxes we are adding and have the frame from a discarded shelf needs a bottom still under construction. I thought maybe dgson could help him with the rest when they get out the tools for something fun to to together. H. wanted to do that. I'd been racking my brain thinking what could I do with this shelf instead of just tossing it! He came up with that while he was grilling lunch yesterday after I went to church.

Getting the netting up on the deck was successful for the most part only one hen got out she's able to squeeze through the slats in the gate so will have to put some on that next.

I came home all excited about a woman's life group they wanted me to host h. shot that down in 2 sec. flat! I was bummed until I realized all the work & stress it would save me.

I did not get hubby's hair cut but did clean up hairs on his neck with the trimmer he had other ideas of how to spend his time this weekend.

Granny duty in a few ...

dtwins. ((((for your dd)))) I would convince to make the dorm aware. but she has to do it (mention it). I don't know if you remember dd older had a girl that had problems. DD moved out right away after having to the call the the head of students etc., all of the roomates that was with this girl also moved out. A new year. dd moved into the apartment where this girl had been (what was available) (after she had left) and all the screws were loose (including the lights) in the rooms that used to be dd's. The girls that had dd's old room had the light fixture fall on them and the other areas - bathroom and things like that had loosened screws everywhere according to the staff. The complex couldn't do much but move them apart but this girls reactions were listed. The complex said it was a "she said, she said thing which was frustrating and all they could do is move them apart. But it was on record. dd spoke to her psych teacher who felt it was best to pretend this girl meant nothing to her and that at first the girls behavior would get worse (which it did) but dd said she pretended until it became real and that no matter what this girl did to cause trouble she started to realize that it was the girl who really was frustrated as dd didn't fall into that trap. this girl tried everything. rumors, trying to make enemies out of dd friends but it all back fired. DD said adding to this girls drama would make it worse for dd and that if she ignored the girl and just had fun with her friends and school this girl wasn't on her mind. I do think your dd is frightened and she needs to talk to the head of the dorm to let them be aware.(((its a horrible position for you and your dd))) praying for your dd and that friends support her.

Dorms many times have to move roommates apart so they should be able to do that on floors too. wishing your dd the best.

Good Morning!

LynLee - Thanks for the Motivational theme today.

(((Twins)))) such a hard problem.

RE: pennies. We see thousands of pennies thrown into the trash at MPB each year. I wonder what they are doing to our ground water when they end up in the landfill. We use pennies in stock tanks, water bowls, and chemical tanks to keep the algae down. Algae problems vanish if you add a couple pennies.

I'm up and going this morning. DH reminded me to not push myself and just go nice and easy. I'm trying.

LO went to school because he insisted he felt good. However his confidence level has vanished. On the way to school, he started agonizing to the point of tears about his journal work and how he can't do it. I spoke with his teacher about this and she told me again about his abrupt personality changes last week. If this was brought on by me being away from him for a couple days, I would think he would be returning to normal. Instead he is getting worse. Maybe this is nothing more than a phase and I'm reading more into it than it needs.

Hello everybody!

OKay, I'm sorry to read you are ill. There is a roto (sp?) virus going around that is very bad, it is a strain from Australia. I'm not allowed to visit one of my ladies in the nursing home becuse there is a lot of it there.

If I was storing stuff to use once a year, etc., I would not put them away dirty. But when I got them out, if they smell good, I would just put in dryer for a few minutes with something a little damp, maybe that would take care of any wrinkles.

DH gets odd stuff when he goes shopping too! He buys sardines in mustard sauce, ew. But he eats them himself so it's all good!

Twins I do hope DD is ok today. I think someone in authority should know about the threat.

Saturday was a big cleanup day here. Sunday was the finish of that after church plus making the food; we had 12 last evening so that was nice. 6 weeks of this. House looks wonderful. If only I could keep it this way. I don't want to get into a lifestyle when I'm decluttering and doing heavy cleaning every day. That would be exhausting. So I'm trying to find a way to keep it nice more easily.

Today I'm working on laundry and finishing up at my desk.

re: Pennies.

Australia is where we first noticed this back in 1998. Everything was priced 'normally' and on your cash register receipt it would say something like, Price 19.97, Paid 19.95 Rounding -.02. Since the rounding was on the total bill and the amount rounded up or down was also spelled out for you, technically, you could track how much 'extra' it was costing you, but mathematical probability says it would be close to nil.

In Canada, pricing will still be normal. Companies can't even choose to adjust their prices since tax is added on at the till and the amount of tax depends on the item and how the item is purchased. For instance, 'meals' (i.e. a bottle of water, bag of chips and a soup) under $4 are taxed at 5% but meals over $4 are taxed at 13% so if you choose three items and they are under $4 there is a different tax than if you bought two of each of the three items.

In Canada things will be added up normally and the tax applied. If you are paying with credit card or debit card, you will pay what it says on the till (i.e. $19.97) and that is what is charged for the transaction. If you are paying with cash, rounding will be done and in this example, I'd pay $19.95.

So the advise for penny pinchers is that if the bill ends with a 3, 4, 8 or 9, pay with your credit/debit card and pay the exact amount. If the bill ends with 1,2,6 or 7, pay cash and save 1 to 2 cents per transaction. I'm cheap, but even I'm not that cheap!

Like Lucylee, I was up until 1. In my case, I was writing. First draft of the sermon is almost done.

My brain isn't working right today and I'm reversing letters on about 2/3 of the words I type. Sigh...

I'm still in my pjs. Choir is in 90 minutes so I'm going to s2s now. I didn't come downstairs until almost 10 and then got distracted again. Also got a phone call from the rental agent. She was central for this rental company so discussed which buildings they had and which had places big enough for us, their cost, and availability. They will not know until 2 months prior if there is a unit opening up but she warned us that our preferred building only has 6 of the units we want. It is in our price range, though, so that was a good thing. She told me to contact the individual buildings starting about 4 months before we need a place so that we'll be top of mind for the rental agents.

Painting the last color. Finished all of the primer. These are short little walls but have cabinets and cupboards so lots of cutting in.

Pulled out the washer and dryer and primed behind them. Will finish them with last color when primer is dry.

At least it is easy to paint around the granite counter tops. Paint wipes off easily even if dry (then scrape it with finger nail.)

Rest time over - back to finish.
