Good afternoon! Teaching at moms group went well some ways and not well in other ways this morning. My delivery for my planned ahead speaking parts was not the greatest, has never been; I felt rough in spots. So much of what I say cannot be exactly pre-planned b/c of the discussions that take place. Sometimes, women bring up points that I had planned to talk about and I tend to rephrase/reword what I'm saying to not be too redundant. But the material was apparently very well-received, we had some good discussions, even with a small crew today, and it sounded like the topic was serendipitous timing for some of the women. That's more important, so I guess it went alright. On to SS lesson for Sunday. . . .- and then the teaching for next week.
I did not sleep well last night b/c I was fretting over teaching this morning. So, now I've had 2 nights of sub-par sleep.
TaDas!
x moms group
x lunch; gave myself some time to relax - watched an episode of Downton Abbey while eating
x started breadmaker
Next up: work on clearing the heavy slush on our driveway.
Dfriends should be here for dinner this evening. I think 3 of the 4 are coming; one is arriving late and one is leaving early. Dh should be home around 8 pm.

Look, Ma! No cavities!
(Ya'll just tell me if that joke starts getting stale. I only use it every 6 months so I figure it's fresh.)
I had to bob and weave some in big city traffic, but no particular scariness. On the way home ducked in to Subway for me and HRH. Back here, we watched the first of last night's two recorded Duck premieres while we ate.
Harmony, I have overdraft protection, so that's not it. They assured me that even if I had a million-dollar balance, they still wouldn't do the transaction. They are saying they would do it only for my husband, because it was his name on the check that I was depositing at that moment. And If he came with a check made out to me, he couldn't get cash back. They are saying every deposit slip has to be about that check(s) only. It can only be used to get cash back from the check, not the account, and only if it is in the hands of the joint owner to whom that check is made out, not the hands of the other joint owner. The other joint owner would have to endorse the check (without the knowledge of the first, of course), and I wouldn't do that, 'cause I was quite weirded out and slightly irate.
Dd is in the midst of teen drama. Something about one friend trying to keep her from having a friendship with another girl. Good grief. Wasn't this over in middle school.... Thankfully, the girl she's spending tomorrow night with doesn't even go to their school, so she has a break from drama coming up.
Nancy, I'm so glad the biddies are doing well !

~~~waving Hi to all~~~~~
Harriet - Congratulations on a great dentist checkup! That is wonderful and well worth celebrating!
I am celebrating today - LO didn't cry this morning at school! FINALLY!! After school yesterday I told him we are going to practice leaving him until he can do it without tears. We went through the steps (take coat off, put library card & book into stack, put backpack into cubby hole, give kisses & hugs, etc) about 5 times. We discussed what he should do if/when he feels like crying
(take a deep breath and exhale slowly, repeat Joshua 1:9, remind himself we will be there when school gets out, put an smile on his face and have an attitude of gratitude, etc) IT WORKED!!!!!
RE: LO classmate being spanked. It wasn't a rumor. It happened. I'm sure the laws and regulations are different in places and some places probably don't allow it. Spanking is done here (with parental permission) with strict guidelines (swats are administered by principal with 2 witnesses). It is rare to be done to LO age level. This is the only time that I'm aware anyone in his class has been spanked.
Speaking of school and punishment.
VBSigh......wishing it was different....
OUTRAGED......wishing it was different....
Very sadden......wishing it was different....
ANGRY......wishing it was different....
Humbled......wishing it was different....
After being written up 32 times .....and getting into trouble again today with the punishment to be expelled for a year. So DGS17 officially quit school today.
This morning he called me and asked for his SSN. While I was looking it up, I asked him why he needed it. DGS17 told me he needed it to put on the paperwork his Dad was signing to officially end his school. I could write a book what I think about this, but it wouldn't change anything. I didn't hold back on DGS17 though. DH and I took DGS17 out to eat today and spoke firmly and frankly with him. DGS17 plans are getting his GED and a job.
RE: bank. We had an "extra" account in a large bank so we could use their change machine for free. However we got so tired of their way of doing business that we closed the account. For several years we had a checking account with federal credit union until the day they wouldn't let me deposit our tax return check into our joint account without DH being present. I was outraged. I spoke to several board members of the credit union and they agreed it didn't make sense, but it was their rules. I withdrew all money and closed our accounts that day.
Our current bank is locally owned and gives excellent service. When i drive up to get money out, I say something like "Hi! How are you doing today? I need to get $500 from our personal checking account". That's it. No names or account numbers are needed. They know us and our accounts. They send the money out with a withdrawal slip (along with a couple suckers for LO). I sign the slip and send it back to them before driving away. It takes about a minute for the whole transaction.
((OKay and Mr. OKay, dgs)) Well, tomorrow is the first day of the rest of his life. He has the greatest teacher ever - first hand experience - coming up. He's going to be taking a course in education appreciation.
Hey - that's another thing that's missing! Lollypops!
***Gasp**** A bank without lollipops??
When LO was struggling with his weight, the bank switched and gave him stickers (at my request). Now he can have lollipops again.
Lollipop
Lamb
Leg
Light
are the first 4 words of LO speech homework tonight. He had 12 L words to master. I took a video of him working hard to positioning his tongue to pronounce the L sound.
A couple nights ago I heard him softly repeating L words over and over as he fell asleep.
I've removed February decorations in the house and am in process of decorating for March. This is only the 5th month I've done it, but so far I am loving switching themes monthly. Saying good bye to my hot pink/black wardrobe and saying Hello to pastels with a purple theme for March.
Okay....
The letter L is one of the hardest sound to produce. My first name begins with an L and most kids can't begin to pronouce it right until they are five or so. In fact my first name has two L's, one in each syllabus like Lucylee or Lynlee and I can usually tell how old a child is by the way my name is said.
I feel like I've been doing laundry all day. Five loads and I still have one to fold. In between I have done a bunch of other stuff, none of them really exciting. I had dinner cooked by 10:30am while cleaning the kitchen. I haven't been sleeping well and was up at 3:30 yesterday and 5:00 this morning. Gives me time to read and drink my coffee in the quite.
The District finally decided I was qualified to be a sub teacher. I went to a workshop yesterday so I could be certified to work. After the meeting I drove over to my old school and let them know I was available to work. Spent a few moments visiting with friends before I headed home.
Sweetie has been sick with a "cold" ...this according to him, but it really was the flu. He's been pretty good for the most part, but I have kept my distance cause i certainly don't want to share it with him
He's now over the worst of it, but he still tires pretty easily.
Willis is starting to stink again so I spent much of my time this afternoon reading about dogs and yeast. Poor guy is licking his crotch area like crazy so I slathered him with Monistat. I've done it before with good results. I gave him a bath with peppermint and Tea Tree oil and then rinsed him with vinagar. It must have felt good cause Willis just stood in the tub while I was washing him. I checked his food...remember I changed it to no grains earlier this summer and discovered the feed has sweet potatoes in it. Sadie LOVES sweet potatos...I call her my Sweet Potato Girl sometimes...but they have sugar in them and yeast feeds on it...so I'm going to change his feed again. Willis looked and felt so good after his bath that I'm going to give one to Sadie tomorrow. Thankfully she loves them. Jumps right into the tub when I tell her and waits for the fun to begin.
Hear the dryer dinging....I need to buy Sweetie another package of undershorts and t-shirts. He only has six and all this washing is wearing me out....With 9 I can do the laundry once a week instead of every 5 days...seems like a plan to me. Gonna be in the 80's this weekend. Oh well, there goes my winter.....Nitters....
Forgot to add...never mind the lollipops, my bank used to give out doggie biscuits...same with Walgreens. Poor Sadie TWD...now all anyone does to her is wave, and she sure does pout when she doesn't get her "cookies".
Hello to everyone ! It was a nice day here today; high was up around upper 60s I think. It will be a little cooler here tonight (low tonight 56*) and on thru the weekend. The house was 68* when I got up this a.m.
Harriet...happy for your dentist's good news!
OKay...sounds like dgs17 has not been happy for a long while. I hope things work out for the best for him. Happy Cheers for LO following up practice and not crying as school started!
Harmony...hope you've climbed out of your doldrums by now!
Nancy...I'd love to see a picture of your chicks. I like hearing about your feathered family!
Helia...sorry to hear of the damage to your trees. We have a huge live oak in our back yard, also very tall two scrub pines (one in back & one in side yard). Most every time we have a bad storm with a lot of wind some of the dead branches fall, but so far none have been as large as the ones you lost. I'm glad your dgirls were safe.
Earlier this week I was not feeling my usual perky self, but nothing I could put my finger on. Yesterday we had to run into downtown Clw. to pay a utility bill. I swear dh aimed the car at every bump and pothole in the road (not really!) and by the time we got home my stomach was thoroughly upset. I went right to my bedroom and laid down for the rest of the afternoon. He found a package of Lipton chicken soup and that's what I had for supper. This morning I felt much better but still a little low on energy. I'm sure I will feel much better again tomorrow, which is good since it is Friday, my weekend readiness cleaning day!
Banks.... our bank has had at least 4 different names since we moved here and opened checking account - it is currently one of the country's largest. I will say that we've not had any bad service with any of the companies. I didn't like that they have now started charging $3/mo for printed statements, so I've finally switched to online. It's been quite a while since I actually deposited a check, but I think I could only get cash back on 1/2 the amount of the check at the time and it had to be endorsed by both if it wasn't being transacted by the person to whom it was made out. Oh, and our doggies and little kids would always get a treat at the drivethru window!
Paddling.... I don't think anyone has a right to spank someone's child and we never signed a permission slip to give that right. If my child needed spanked I would take the responsibility for that. Fortunately the occasion never arose. There are other methods of "punishment" for misbehavior. I'm not sure I agree with expelling a student as an answer to correcting behavior. I guess it depends on the student and the school system. It's not easy for either parents or children these days!
Well, the ddogs have been let out and let back in, treats given and doors locked up for the night!
Little children have a hard time with consonant digraph (two consonants making new sound, in my case, the th in my name.) It is really cute when a little one will tell me their nose is tuffed up. But they also drop the first t in the th, so a lot of my daycare kids would go through a stage of calling me Kahryn which sounds like Karen.
Some adults make that mistake and I suspect it is because of the th being missed, either in their hearing or processing of my name. Since I pronounce it Kah-thrin, I suspect it is the mental processing, since it is isn't as if it is easy to confuse it with kare-in.
My drive home was uneventful. I got gas at the general store (paid $1.60 extra but saved having to go out of my way) and picked up the mail. I had phoned dh to ask about what kind of dental floss to get (why does one need a degree in dental floss in order to pick some up - there is such a thing as too many choices!) but the line was busy. He was still on the line when I got home so I didn't as for help at the door. He came running when he heard me and couldn't figure out why I said to go back to his call. Turns out the phone was off the hook by accident.
Forgot to pick up motivation at Wally World, so I've wasted the late afternoon and evening, except for finally remember to watch BBT. It is probably a repeat but new to me.
I think I'll go to bed early and embrace tomorrow as another day.
I'm in the ER with DH. Looks like he has congestive heart failure. Waiting to hear from Dr. They might admit him or send him to Phoenix hospital. I'm hoping they give him meds and I take him home.
