Back from church it was a good service got some prayer covering about my concern n J & C thread. Got a viola flower [looks like a mini pansy] to plant now when we do our planting. Got details on the yd. sale at the church too. Coffee and roll for lunch BBQ this afternoon / evening @ dd's I need to get the bag of salad in a bowl add mushers and include the side of dressing, salsa seems like a good idea so I'll bring that as well I have a jar of it I need the jar!

One egg today pullets are getting out the half door so h. closed it up before we left.

Happy Mother's Day to each of my special friends in this village.

Dd2 called late this morning. Her family and dgd16s boyfriend were on their way to a lake 40 miles north of here. They were going to have a picnic and hike for awhile. This IS a big deal. With her dh being a farmer/rancher, they very seldom get to do things like this as a family. She takes the kids to do a lot of things, but gets tired of always doing it by herself with dd1 or I helping.

Dd14 wore one of MY too-small dresses to church today, lol. She received many compliments. A very nice service, but our church doesn't do anything special about mother-awards, etc. One thing I neglected was to think about corsages. Of course, we were on time, and this is a Great Goal in itself. Had I tried to add one more layer of "shoulds" and "oughts" we probably wouldn't have been, and finished is better than perfect. I had just been skimming through some C. S. Lewis recently and part of the scripture reminded me of a poignant point I was able to make to the minister later.

I was looking for a particular friend to greet.
"Let's not leave yet, I want to talk to Jane," I told dd.
"Jane's definitely not here today," dd answered with authority, and of course I knew Jane hadn't been in the sanctuary.
"Someday you'll be as sharp as your mother. For now, watch and learn. And ask yourself, "Why is there a purse hanging on Jim's arm?'"
Jane was immediately found keeping nursery, hoping her husband Jim had not forgotten to pick up her purse.

Gee, many of us must be celebrating Mother's Day! No posts since mine hours ago.

I was taken out to eat by dd14. Dstepson called me. Dd33 called me.

It's been a homework night for dd14, she got a shower and did laundry, but in a way I don't feel I've gotten much done today.

HRH did the flea and tick treatments - anyone need a reminder about that? We're actually a little later than usual, but read that the season was slowed because of lower than usual temps.

I'm supposed to be working but can't print here at the hotel (neither computer in the business center will allow me to print) and I don't work well from a screen. Since I have to write all the prayers, I was printing off the readings this week so I could tease out the prayers from the scripture. With a printout I can see multiple readings at once. Working from the screen, I can see only 1/3 of a page (barely one reading) at a time. I think my dyslexia helps me see everything at once. I can't read it, but inspiration pops off the page at me and I then focus in at that spot to read what has drawn me in.

We walked for 3 hours this afternoon so I did a round of physio and then we walked over and picked up some pizza for dinner. Watched an episode of tv while we ate and had the feeling of being at home.

Dh glanced out the window when we were done and saw a car against a post right at the corner where we crossed. Airbag had deployed, people standing around. About 3 - 4 minutes later, police, fire and ambulance arrived. First on the scene was police and the police woman ran past the crashed car without pausing and down the hill out of sight so we are guessing there was a worse crash down there.

Our timing for dinner was excellent since we had walked through there just an hour before.

Had a nice chat with dd for Mother's Day. Her best line? "I like to age my to-do lists." To which I added "like a fine whine?"

Dh got the printer to work for me. It is almost out of toner so the last page is awfully pale but it was the least important. Now to get to work for a bit.

We've been back home for a little while. A very nice visit with DH's family. We didn't get to see everyone, of course, but were very happy to visit with a couple of nieces we haven't seen in many months.

DH slept in until 1:30 so I had plenty of time to get food ready. I called DMIL at 1:45 and luckily she had not made any plans for supper. DH took a shower while I packed the food and put everything in the car.

I think (hope) my surprise indoor picnic was a success. Chicken salad sandwiches, lettuce and some nice ripe tomatoes, ranch dressing, a jar of dill pickles, a multi-pack of different types of snack chips in individual serving bags, and a carton of pink lemonade.

I had no idea how many people would be there so really had to guess on quantities of everything. There is just a little bit of chicken salad left for my lunch tomorrow.

We also took our "party ball" of picnic/camping dishes which includes 6 each of dinner plates, salad plates, shallow bowls, little cups, and a serving tray, inside 2 big serving bowls that strap together to form the ball.

Our set is all matching red. They are calling it "Ingrid" although I don't remember that name.

Funny thing is that every time we take it somewhere, I have to stop people from throwing away the dishes because they are the exact same color as the disposable type sold today.

Hello and Happy Mothers' Day to all. It was a nice day here, and I had no expectations at all so did not end up disappointed. I'd received one card a few days ago and other DD told me Friday after I saw her "oh, shoot I totally forgot this weekend is mothers' day and I could have brought something" and kept apologizing. She did call today and put a nice message on FB. Other DD called and we had the first nice chat we'd had in a long while. I'd been thinking maybe she was mad at me about something...but everything is fine, just a lot going on...and I sure understand that.

So, all in all, it was a great day.

Church service was nice. I ran a couple errands on the way home, ate lunch & took a nap. I got the house reasonably cleaned up for small group tonight and that was nice also.

Sadie, your group doing the flowers for Joyce was so nice! I liked reading what everybody did today. Kathryn, too bad you have this work to do while you are on your trip, but it doesn't sound like you really mind. I hope the day went ok for the Lucylee's.

Our church service went well this morning, and dgs was quite happy in the nursery.
Afterwards, we went to dmom's and tried to eat up some of the stuff that people have been bringing. No guests while we were there except very, very dfriend who just popped in to drop off some DELICIOUS cornbread & vegetable soup. Sooo good.
Back home, we took a tiny nap, then I went to CVS. Later, dmil's, Wmart, back to dmil's to deliver her groceries.
Then ds, ddil, & dgs came back to our house to deliver my Mother's Day gift... and FINALLY dh & I ate supper.

I must admit... I am beginning to really dread tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing all the people and hearing the little stories lots of people tell... but I don't really want to see ddad again w/no hair -- and dmom expects the family to have that private viewing time. I also dread the cemetery. Even though I know he's not there... it's still a hard part of the whole thing. ALSO... dmom has asked ds to sing the old Stanley Brothers song, "White Dove" at the cemetery. Y'all may not know the song (except maybe Harriet?) but oh my goodness... it is a saaad saaad song... a real tear-jerker, and not especially a funeral/spiritual song.
HOWEVER... dmom said she just keeps hearing ddad saying, at his father's funeral, as they did the dove release, "I wish we'd had (ds) sing 'White Dove' for this." So there you go. Maybe the dove man will say something uplifting and inspiring after ds dissolves us all into a weeping mess. DS said, "Why can't I sing 'On the Wings of a Snow White Dove'?" But ddad never mentioned THAT song as a special funeral song... * sheesh * Dmom said we should pray for her to have guidance re: this song selection.
DS will also be singing "Amazing Grace" at the service itself, at the church, and their former pastor will sing "Beulah Land."

After the service we will all go back to the church to eat, and I'll probably be going back out to dmom's after that... so -- don't know when I'll get back to y'all... but I know y'all will keep us in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow. Service begins @ 2:00, visitation from 12-2, we have to be at church at 11:00. Long day ahead.
