Hopeful Thursday

After having a mental meltdown in private - I talked to DH and we have decided not to go to town today. It is supposed to be 101. Tomorrow will be 94. I just couldn't face going to the laundromat when it was so hot.

The other thing we were going to town for was to get more supplies to dress DH's arm. But I have figured out a way to stretch what we have so that can wait until tomorrow, too.

Guess I didn't sleep as well as I thought if I am this close to tears. I will now go take a shower and then take a nap in the AC.

We have been running all the fans in the house to try to keep the house as clear of smoke as we can. The smoke lifted somewhat yesterday afternoon and because it was sooooo hot we turned the cooler on. Felt so good. When Mr. Guy went in to shut it down, he was met with water and ash spraying all over. The whole unit was clogged. Guess what he is doing right now? Hey, isn't it time for the wind to shift in some other direction? We are so sick of this and we heard last night that the fire down there may not be contained until September 10.

Off to grocery shopping and to pick up a new belt for the cooler fan.

Yes, I keep talking about revamping my cards, but I haven't done it yet. I'd really like to get that done before school starts. Today is not the day to do it. I was out the door late at 8:45 and just got home now. Moms group steering committee meeting was 9:30 - 11:30. I picked up Panera bagels and coffee and did some set up beforehand - and clean up afterward. We got a lot done! Dd17 was my main babysitter. After I finish lunch, I will be moving ds into his apt. I think he is all packed. Strange, but he has less stuff to move into the apt. than he moved into his dorm room last year. He doesn't have his books yet, but that wouldn't account for one less large rubbermaid container.

Then, I'll prep for Thursday dinner with some housecleaning and a bit of cooking. Dh started the crockpot for me this morning -- b/c I set my alarm wrong. Actually, i set my alarm correctly but accidentally bumped the Daylight Savings Time button in the process. Thus, I got up one hour later than i thought I did. I'm trying a new recipe tonight, beef and chipotle burritos. I have some jicama to shred as a topping. Fruit and steamed fresh brussel sprouts will round out the meal. I know - brussel sprouts are kind of a random item, but we didn't eat them last night, so they should be eaten tonight. And tortilla chips.

I also need to prep a guest room for ds' friend who will be staying here tonight.

Also, dd15's drumline is performing during half time at the football game. I hope to go see them. The question is: when is half time?? Dd15 needs to be at the school at 6:30 and she thinks that is 45 minutes before the game starts.

If i have time, I'll go for a jog late this afternoon, though it will be hot.

*phew* I wouldn't want to go to the laundromat in 101* either, ((MT)). I hope you have a good refreshing nap.

May not have long to post -- ds is coming over to walk a little while. I didn't tell him I've already walked a mile, LOL... but I'll try to do a couple w/him, too.

I turned 52, Sher. But I'll catch up with you on anniversaries soon. DH & I will celebrate our 34th in October.

We didn't do anything special yesterday -- dh just instructed me to go shopping and get myself whatever I wanted. I know a lot of people think that is just awful, but it is totally my own fault. I was NOT a good receiver very early on in our marriage, and dh is now VERY intimidated and hesitant to buy me anything. I really hate it... but OTOH, I hate for him to waste $$$ on something that I don't need or want.

Dmom did not even give me a CARD... but of course, she has not left her house alone in the last three weeks... and she kept saying she wants to take us out for dinner... so there may be more celebration ahead.

My big THREE for yesterday was making THREE stops for gas.
I was just about to run out, seriously, and I stopped at no name station near dmom's, and * can you believe this * they only had the lowest grade regular gas. DH pretty much forbids using that (I don't know why; even ddad would use it in everything except his Corvette ) soooo... after I had already paid w/debit card, then I had to go inside and cancel debit card, leave, praying I would not actually run out of gas in their driveway, after telling them their gas wasn't good enough for me ...
so... made it to very HIGH PRICED station... and I just thought, there is no way I am filling up at this price... it's at least 10 cents a gallon cheaper near my house... so I put in ten gallons, picked up supper for us & dmil, and came home to get more reasonably priced gas.

Also had to make THREE stops for food!!!

So... it WAS a somewhat frustrating day, and I truly am HOPEFUL that today will go more smoothly.

Home from an EXCELLENT field trip. After watching how people used to have to do things in the pioneer days, it reminded me that we have it SO EASY. With a flip of a switch we have electric, a/c, etc. With a turn of a faucet, we have water. We walked from exhibit to exhibit all in the sunshine for 2.5 hours. When I got back into my car the radio said it was 103 degrees. Thankfully no one got overheated enough to get sick.

I'm going to sit and cool down for an hour then return to school to help decorate float for tomorrows parade.

I'm "Hopeful" my insurance co. will phone back soon to let me know if they cover Hep "C" screening as suggested recently by the CDC for all "Baby Boomers." I've walked 1/2 hour and stretched, while waiting for her to return my call. I'm putting off my shower until she calls, too. I want to shampoo, so my shower will talk longer and DH brings me the phone, when I'm in the shower! He's so funny! I turn off the shower, dry off my hearing-phone ear, to talk. I don't know why he does that, but he's trying to be helpful and it makes me smile when he does it.

DH did his routine diabetic drug study lab work today and came home to do his weekly injection, etc. take meds. He got up early and is sleeping on the sofa.

Dee, I hope it works out for you.

It's pouring rain here, T-storms are forecast and the humidity is 96%. It's so uncomfortable. I realize that back East, the Midwest and South get high humidity all the time, but in the Pacific NW, it's not so common, so when I feel this, I really sympathize with dfriends and pals in different parts of the country because this is nearly the norm for them.

Easy drive to Halifax. It is grey so I worked a little bit on Sunday's service. It was supposed to be finished but is less done than I expected when I pulled stuff out to try and finish it off. Plus my screen jiggles in the car, so complex editing of a large document is really hard for me.

Had a nice lunch at a new restaurant in Liverpool. Wanted to go there to give them our business as the previous place went out of business last year.

I remember having lunch in a pub in Halifax once. I think we could see a bay as we drove around. It was very pretty!

Had a snafu with moving ds when I couldn't find our home insurance policy to show his property is covered. I called and the insurance company very quickly emailed the policy to me. So handy!! Then, we couldn't get the printer to work. . . finally ds rebooted it and it worked. *phew* Got him moved in OK; it took an hour altogether. Parking was a BIG issue, but we worked it out. I did not take the big suitcases home. I'm going to take him shopping on Saturday for whatever he forgot/needs, including some clothing, so he'll return the suitcases and rubbermaid box - unless he wants to keep it - then. He did forget to bring his shampoo - and his mattress pad. I think E, his bf (and son of my good friend B), has shampoo he can use.

I've started a load of towels and have unloaded the dw and dish drainer. I'm drinking a cup of tea to get some mojo, then I'll finish the a.m. routine.

- load dw
- make bed
- keep laundry going
- DPC
- bathroom up clean
- quick tidy in living areas
- quick dust in living areas
- clean sheets on bed in dd15's room
- vacuum in dd15's room after she picks up the cloth scraps all over the floor.

afternoon y'all..

I'm slow moving today as I woke with a sinus headache. Monsoon weather and storms are all around us and will be for the next four days. Sweetie and I rebraced our tree, plus I removed all the outdoor cushions and put them in the garage. Secured all other flying objects in case the storms are as bad as the other day. Its looking really wild out there right now, but the storms are known to skirt around all areas. Last night we went out to eat. It rained while we were there, but when we drove home the streets less than a 1/3 of a mile away were bone dry. To give you a visual...the sky looks like a hurricane sky. Because the desert is so flat, I can see for miles..and its easy to spot the areas where the rain is falling.

Norma... it may be hot here, but there's no smoke. You're welcome and you know where we live if you need a place to run away. Bet Mr. Guy had some interesting words to say when being dumped on by ashy nasty water.
Dee...I certainly agree with everyone else about your company coming. Maybe you should pitch a tent so Mr. Dee will be able to sleep in his chair and his brother and dw can enjoy the beauty of outdoor living. The one thing I love about getting older is my ability to say NO really loud. I wasn't always that way.

Float for Kindergartners is done! We had 8 show up to help. The teachers commented that every few years a class comes through with parents that get involved. LO class seems to be it. It took us about 2 hours to decide what to do and get it decorated. Nothing fancy like the big city floats, but it will be perfect for our small town parade. The trailer was decorated in the bright sunshine - not a bit of shade around and very little breeze. I am HOT and going to sit here with fan blowing on me and cool down while drinking a big glass of ice water. I saw the car thermometer said 106 degrees while driving home.

Today I practiced learning & saying LO classmates names. Almost 1/2 of his classmates have names that start with C or K, so the sound is the same. Copen, CAmeron, Casin, Connor, Kadience, Kelli, Kamber, Karin.
