Monday at the Manor

Good morning, villagers ~
The estate manager is slogging through reports and meeting prep for tomorrow.
Laundress is waiting for the 2nd load of clothes to finish in the dryer, and contemplating starting a 3rd load in the washer.
Kitchen maid has washed dishes. She probably should clean the larder.
Upstairs maid needs to change the sheets sometime today.
Social secretary has taken care of much correspondence, and needs to make a DPC.
Cook has the night off so the master and mistress of the house will be going to the local diner for one of his favorite meals, all-you-can-eat tacos.

I didn't wake up until 10. I actually woke at 6:15 having 'heard' ds come through the screen door and run up to the kitchen crying. That got me crying. I went to the bathroom, turned on my radio and went back to sleep. Waking again at 10. I still have the rash so I think the antihistamine I'm taking helped keep me in bed so long.

I'm still not s2s but have to soon because we have choir this afternoon. Come to think of it, I've just had tea and chocolate so I need my breakfast as well.

Well. I don't know what is going to happen here at the manor today. I wish I had Carson & Mrs. Hughes to whip everybody into shape. (Downton Abbey, for those who have not been caught up in that series.)

I am so glad that the laundry got done up yesterday, it is making today go so much smoother yea for that!

Good morning everyone! Cue Hallelujah Chorus LOUD!!! I finished my roof work! I still have attic work, ceiling painting, and returning sewing room to original condition, but those do not require someone else's presence and can be done on my own schedule. And, of course, there should not be any further damage.

I went do DD11's school carnival, and she wanted to spend the night with me instead of XDH. That was arranged. She had to leave early the next morning, because XDH had plans, but we did that successfully. As I thought, the other woman decided to skip the carnival. She really is gutless when it comes to seeing me.

DD came over for her usual Saturday night/Sunday visit and you can cue the Chorus again because she agreed to go to Sunday school and LIKED it. She wants to go next week and wants to take her Bible with her. Then, we went to the Titanic exhibit at the Natural History museum. We returned home in time to finish up her homework.

After DD left, I visited FlyLady's site to download the schedule for the servants this week. My maidservant did an excellent job on the front porch, not just sweeping it, but decobwebbing it as well. My secretary wrote a thank you note. My seamstress found some wild fabric for the Ken doll vest - she is making him over as an 80s hair metal rocker, even has a mullet wig. She also got busy on the Charmander crochet and a Barbie dress that has been pending. However, I need to get her to work on some cat collars to sell at the cat show for the animal org.

Tonight, I will dispatch the cook to get groceries and cat food. The maidservant will be working on her FlyLady list. Who handles the accounts, the butler? Whoever it is needs to pay some bills, balance the checkbook, and transfer some money between accounts. If there is time, one of the servants may work on the attic. My secretary really needs to get her act in gear on the job search. She has been slacking for months, and it has gotten more critical.

At some time, I need to get my Halloween costume together. DD is going as a knight and wanted a princess to protect. Then she realized she had demoted me and said I should go as a queen.

Today, I must remember to eat lunch earlier than usual, so I can make a doctor's appointment at 1:00.

I really miss not being able to contact you here on the weekend. Maybe I will try a different browser and see if it helps.

Have to tell you, Harriet that your words to dd15 about not being able to 'wait' until you feel like it to do a chore -they have stuck right with me. Gets me moving for sure!

My servants for some reason took off and are residing the other side of the pond!! Hrmph! So loaded the laundry and took it over to them. Almost time to go see if perhaps they're done with it.

Wondering what will be decided about dh's cardiac rehab or if they'll be able to refer him to something in Fl via Silver Sneakers.

Guess I'd better get on my cart and get floating.

LOL, lucylee, I did not think of that program, but it certainly fits.

lucylee's mention of a program makes me think - anyone else have a family member pining away for "Breaking Bad" this week? HRH and dstepson have kept up with it since the beginning, because they admire the central actor (Malcolm in the Mid's dad). The end was evidently good writing, consistent to the program, but not what fans wished for the characters. HRH says to me, "Have you ever had something end, and you're just kinda heartsick that there isn't going to be another part?" Um.... ... yeah. Ever heard of Harry Potter? He shakes his head. "No, I mean something really good." Men sometimes speak another entertainment language.

I've made out a slip for a deposit I'll make today. His Royal Highness Mr. Harriet forgot to take those bills to mail, so I suppose I'll take the smaller carriage at a trot over to the bank and post today, after picking up The Little Miss. She and schoolmates have each had portraits painted today for the chronicle of their school year. Hope her ringlets stayed in place to suit her.

The manor smells great peach crisp made this a.m. got some creamer and am enjoying some in , my coffee now tried a new
flavor girl scout cookie thin mint was mm good! They were out of the reg. flavor h likes one other truffle flavor to try in a bit...

I have on my cyber maid costume and have spiffed up around here trash has been dumped, vacuuming done except one room my office. Lunch is over I put on my choufer cap to fetch dgd from preschool.

Hens loved the peels from the peaches. Eggs have been gathered.

As the servants let me sleep in very late this morning and after hosting a country weekend for dd and ds, the manor is looking a little worse for wear.

The upstairs maids got the bedrooms tidied up and sent the laundry down to the village to be done. One of the water closets has been cleaned.

I was properly bathes and my hair styled.

I had a long chat with my sister on the phone and then headed off in the carriage to the vicarage in the next village for choir practice. (Our church musician actually lives in the Anglican church vicarage there.)

I've just had afternoon tea and will go for our daily constitutional after the squire finishes up with a conference call.

Dinner is using up food from the weekend feasts. The meals for the rest of the week are now planned, ending with a dinner and dance party on Saturday.

I just want to nod my head at at so many wise encouraging quips to Kathryn today and last night. I too think his going is evidence of your and Ken's wonderful parenting, especially knowing a little of his story. You done good! ((HUGS)) for the pain of missing him. . . .

The maids have the laundry gathered and going and the mechanical maid is washing the dishes. The kitchen counters are clean, except for afternoon tea items - well, really snacks, though dd15 and I have both had a cup of hot tea. The cook went to market and replenished the kitchen stores. She still needs a menu for Th. evening, but the lady and lord need to decide on the extent of the dinner party first. Some paperwork has been done, registration for Hebrew class and the ordering of new checks. I am almost done organizing a meeting with one of S's student leaders whom she has asked me to mentor while she is out with the baby. I also had coffee with dfriend and we commiserated re: graduating seniors and oboe players and the obstacles for women trying to get back into the professional workforce after spending years at home. I'm discovering this is a common issue in this area. . .

Dd15 seems to be in good spirits this afternoon, though the teacher wasn't at school today so she couldn't look at the quizzes. Hopefully, tomorrow.

Dryer beeped so the maid is going to fold the tablecloth in there and put the gathered Hebrew books in a bag.
