And somehow I seem to think I've got ALL YEAR!
LOL! Dee!! That made me chuckle. I resemble that remark too!!

Aw, thanks for the kind thoughts for dd18, blessed and Harriet. Wow, that is inappropriate (imho) pressure on the kids at your school, blessed. Also, it may not be nice for the kids who do get in and are singled out. We'd like to think it would only cause more joy for everyone, but we are human - and it may cause some hard feelings as well. I'm sure if dd's friend who got in was cheered and she was not, that would not be helpful. At the school here, word gets around pretty quickly re: who got into which Ivy, who was deferred (with early action), waitlisted, etc. At least among the kids that are interested in that sort of thing. And word will get out across schools as well for kids and families who know each other. This community isn't that large. . .

That is a very kind selfish thought, Harriet. I appreciate that! I actually have the same thought, which is partially why I wasn't too disappointed. With her unique issues, including bi-annual checks on her hypothyroidism, it might not be bad for her to stay close by - at the beginning.

House is smelling lovely with pot roast cooking. a.m. routine is going way too slowly. . .Off I go!

I sort of did a light experment on the new hens. I started out with low lights in the coop one red string and one white string then yesterday I added two more bigger strings, some of the older hens were drawn in with more light and today I noticed one of the new hens on the nest I am so excited!

I have a bit of the sniffles today.
Today's plans include
Granny duty today and we have cooking / baking day. Make crisp and bake cookies the goal.

Goals:
Take down the tee pee out of living room x to basement.
Between now and new yr. Deliver sweet bread.
Jan. Goals:
Get mom's bday card and gift ready.
Next yr.
We need to build the support for the bbqer.

Ooooooh, I am floored and stalled out by temple news that VP who is spending away time with boyfriend right now may not be coming back here! Appears she has not decided that for sure but there's a good chance. She has 4.5 months left in her term and she's not told me she's leaving or might be leaving! And I'm already put out with her because she recommended and booked (as VP) her boyfriend as our August "scholar in residence" for which he was handsomely paid and brought here w/o disclosing that she was in a relationship with him. Ay yi yi. I am put out.

Need to be at noon appt with dkids, probably should get them up soon. (shouldn't have to, but appears would be prudent.)
-s2s quickly

Well heck, spent time on another temple issue and now I don't think I have the time to s2s. At least this discussion was a good issue.

Hello to LisaB! We miss hearing from you.

Nancy, you may be bringing them back into lay faster that way - hope it works for you!

Twins' Mom, eewwwww. That is a messy situation.

I'm ready to start my day now. Or take a nap. Could go either way.....

Got out of bed at 8 and got downstairs by 8:45. Not sure what the delay was but some of it was tidying upstairs just in case the washroom up there got used.

Main floor tidying got done but included a stash and dash. Sigh...

Love having the roll-top desk as my main surface. Gathered up all the living room papers, dumped them on the desk and shut the lid! Instant tidyness!!!!

Did get the biscuits made. And they turned out well. That's four times now, so I know the recipe works reliably for me. Woot!

Our guests (the former organist at the second church, who we weren't overly friendly with until she retired and moved to Nova Scotia) appreciated tea and biscuits as a snack. I apologized for going 'all out' with silver and pretty dishes but they are the only guests we are having this season and I wanted to pull out my pretty things.

We sat in the living room with the tree all lit up so it was nice to enjoy that. I turned up the heat but it didn't really do much good - thank heavens for the tea to keep us warm.

It is bitterly cold here today, -40 with the wind this morning when we woke up and it is still -15 in the wind.

Now to finish up either the bulletins or the cards.

Twins' Mom, Yes, that sounds like a sticky situation!

Nancy, I'm currently working on my Jan. goals in my day runner. It's a Helen Steiner Rice one, which has a lined page for goals for each month. It goes until Jan. 31, 2015, so I hope I'll be able to find the same day runner again. I like it. Good luck with your experiment, too. :)

Dee, Good luck on getting your cards out soon. Life catches up with us sometimes, huh. :?:

OKay, I loved the opener on self-talk. If we don't talk to friends in a negative put-down manner- WHY do we do that to ourselves? We should be our own best friends and treat ourselves with respect and love. We're living with ourselves inside our hearts and heads.

Waving to Helia and Blessed. :) :)

I'm a bit disappointed this a.m., but my chest felt like it was on fire in bed, I have no fever, but am congested and "knew" I need to go back onto QVAR, the inhaled steroid inhaler, twice a day now, for 2 weeks. Oh, well. It's better for me health-wise, but nevertheless, I feel disappointed about it because QVAR's so expensive and the more you use, the faster you go through it and the more you pay the faster you go through it. But at least I've got it now, am on a good maintenance program, via my Dr., and health is what's important.

I'll try to answer a 10-page letter today, but can finish it on Wed. and Thurs., will try to finish a story for children by tonight or tomorrow a.m., to get out, and will try to start DD's infinity scarf, to surprise her with. (I think the "surprised" person will be ME- that I've finished it!)

Have a Terrific Tuesday, Everyone, and make those Tuesday Talks to yourself (and others, too) be positive ones, too! I'll take that to heart and will talk nicely to myself, too! :D

Hello Dear Ladies,

It is in the 60's today. Having wonderful weather. 8-) 8-)

Yesterday was spent on the road a lot. Dson22, the one with broken foot had oral surgery and had 3 wisdom teeth removed. He was scheduled for one but once the oral surgeon looked at the x-ray he said it would be best to have the other two taken out because he could see problems from them too. Dson already had one remove a couple of weeks ago so now all wisdom teeth are gone.

DH bought a stool to help me get into the suburban. I am very short and usually use my hand to help pull me up into it. I could see a problem getting in once I am down to using just one arm for awhile. So the stool is helping. I also purchased more pillows for our bed including one of those chair type pillows to help me be in a reclining position while sleeping. I so want to be able to sleep in my own bed after surgery.

I decided to let my supervisor at WM know about my surgery and 3 months of wearing a sling. I realized it's best to let them know. I told her I could do my job with the sling on but if I found I couldn't then I would go on medical leave. I just wanted to the chance to try.

Other than that, life goes on. I try not to look at the condition of the house too much.

Thinking I might take a bath with epson salt and read a book. Haven't done that in a while.

Great day to all!

Dgd has dance on Tuesdays now, so my morning was freed up a bit. I was able to pick up an Rx, and do a store run.

Made a fruit crisp w/out her. Next up get the roast ready to cook.

We let the hens out and I put fresh water in the outside waterers. The new hens are mingling in with the others a bit more now.

WOW -- the pressure re: college acceptances. Oh my...
Our experience is sooo much different. As helia said, kids always know where each other is going, but in our little tiny town school (approx 600 students, grades 9-12) the HUGE majority of college-bound students are bound for state schools. Probably a majority go to the local community college and another large segment go to a small 4-year university nearby. (That was my experience, 2 years at comm. college, then transferred to "local" university. Those who really want the "big-time" college experience go to Alabama or Auburn, and then there are other smaller universities that the rest balance out themselves around. Kids may be wearing the sweatshirt of their chosen school, but my goodness, they've all been wearing Alabama or Auburn sweatshirts since kindergarten, anyway, LOL!!! You might have a full-ride 4-year scholarship to one of those schools, but the guy next to you could be the first person in his family to complete high school and your shirts would be the same. ;)

On awards day, scholarship recipients are announced, and the school takes great pride in the number of scholarship offers our students receive, but I cannot even remember anyone even applying to an Ivy League school, so it's not that kind of pressure. We have had a fair share, over the years, of students who have gone to military academies and that's kind of a big deal, but not everyone is cut out for that sort of thing, so there's certainly no competition.

* whew *
My dson didn't really apply to anywhere except AU. He knew, pretty much from birth, b/c of family tradition, that would be where he would end up. He considered briefly applying to some schools nearer to Nashville, but pretty quickly nixed that idea, saying that a college degree would not really help him in his ultimate career goals and living in "music city" would just be a detraction from getting the degree in the meantime. He figured he could put off following his dream four more years and continue the family tradition, share football Saturdays and things with his dad, and be just as well off in the long run. And I guess he was right; time will tell.

(((Sadie's ds))) (((Sadie)))

Ooohhh, Twins!!! That IS a sticky situation. I can just imagine the talk around the temple...

Goals... well... my goals for 2014 are the same as my goals for the last dozen new years that y'all have known me. I am really going to get on track w/my cards and zones and all that good stuff. I know -- I say this EVERY SINGLE YEAR and NOTHING ever changes. BUT -- for the first time, I am entering a new year w/out a very stressful 40-hour + weekly work schedule staring at me. In spite of sporadic babysitting demands and dmom's needs, AND travel the first 10 days of the new year, I do hope I can get myself together a little bit.

(((Ivy))) I'm sure the lung congestion is nothing to play with. DH and I were just talking about that last night. He has had a few scary asthma attacks, and my dgmother had emphysema.
I'm ready to start my day now. Or take a nap. Could go either way.....
LOL... Kathryn, I'm right there with you. WTG on the biscuits!

I'm kinda excited to see what happens with those hens, Nancy!

Today's PODA (and ta-da's)
* Early phone call from our pastor, needed copy of adm council minutes. Luckily I knew right where those were and was able to make copies and take care of that right away. She came by and got them just a little while ago.
* Next phone call from dcousin out-of-state. I love to talk to him -- actually, ddad's first cousin, who is about dmom's age. He was checking on my first cousin who has cancer; couldn't get them on the phone.
[x] Exercise
[ ] s2s
[ ] funeral home visitation in next town -- stepson of the man who mows our yard; we don't know the deceased, but must go for the parents
[ ] hurry back to our town for ds/dh to sing at nursing home
* So far... no need for anti-nausea meds. Yesterday, while talking to dmom about Christmas plans, I sorta had a panic attack and I did take some medicine (Z ofran). Usually, if I can get my stomach to stop churning, I can deal with whatever is causing the anxiety. But while my stomach is churning and I'm having hot flashes and cold sweats and trembling... no way can I think about WHAT WAS I THINKING WHEN I INVITED THE THUNDERING HERD TO MY HOUSE???
