I haven't finished my new habit book yet. But I know from the first few chapters that one danger is when the habit precedes the intention. For instance, a woman walks along a certain route. But if questioned (even questioned by herself) when she discovers another way to the same destination would have been better all along, she may defend her habit rather than hear anything against it! For instance, there is some muddy ground on her usual route - well, she says to herself, that's the way I go and I like it that way because... (insert rationalization here even though she never particularly intended to always walk that direction and doesn't like the mud).

That's the way our brains can work, sometimes. We will become defensive about a habit just because it is our habit - not because it is anything we truly set out to do. So we need to be willing to question things that we notice have become habits before we expressed an intention. Why do I keep buying the same food item, why won't I change the alarm time on my clock, why won't I try on more comfortable shoes, etc

I've decided to count W. W. Pts. on my old plan, so printed up tracking journals, am dating them now and my starting date will be Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Observed, on Jan. 20. My 62nd b-day's on Jan. 15th, so I'll have going out to eat, lunch out, and b-day cake out of the way, before I pick the starting W. W. dieting date. I'm labeling and dating the W. W. tracking journal pages now, so have no idea how many weeks/days my journey will take me. Oh, I need to go take meds because I need to go to bed and we're getting up earlier so DH can get out earlier to go to Costco in the morning. I want to be dressed and ready. As of this a.m. I weighed 185.0 Lbs. and I've been between 183 - 185 Lbs. for 9 - 10 weeks. I've been writing most of my food down, most days, not counting (obviously!) and am happy I've maintained over the holidays and didn't zoom up to 190 Lbs. or higher.

I filled out the printed out W. W. food journal pages. The diet goes from Jan. 20, which is Martin Luther King, Jr.'s B-day Observed and it ends on 8/3/14, which just so happens to be MY DSIS's 54th b-day! So with these 2 important dates in mind, it'll be easier for me to gauge when my diet begins, where I am in the months of it trekking by, and when it'll end. When my Dsis's b-day comes, I'll either continue the W. W. way, using my old 2008 plans/2006 plans and calculator, etc.. or I'll take a bit of a break.

However, with Autumn facing me at that time, we hibernating in fall/winter months, I'd best be sticking with the plan.

I stayed on point yesterday and began my day right today.
Ate my breakfast and spent an hour on my gazelle.

I'm off to Coscos to buy some fish and chicken. Just wanted to comment that I bought this week's People's magazine which features people who have lost half their weight. Very inspiring and well worth the read.

Also someone posted on my fb page a very interesting site. Take time to scroll down and read. Many interesting and informative stories on what is needed to change a habit, how to loose weight plus good eating tips. I clicked on it just to read one of the stories and found myself saying....Harriet should read this, Nancy should read this one, Ivy should read this....so I'm just going to put up the link and let y'all enjoy. I still haven't finished everything I want to read either. Enjoy... :D

I stayed on target yesterday and the scale shows it.
Did 3.3 miles one the gazelle, walked doggies a mile and put in over 10k steps. Don't know the exact amount cause my pedometer rest it's self. Thankfully I had just looked at it a while back. It read over 8k. I put in another 4k after that.

On target with eating today. Have close to 7k steps and .8 miles on the gazelle. Just home from errands and will do more later. I'm on day three... I find days 3-5 are turning points for me. If I can stay focused during that time, I have a better chance of staying with the plan.

Didn't sleep well last night so am off to rest... I can't nap anymore I don't fall asleep and I hate it. Monday I will start going to the gym. I am really focusing on ME this month. If I can jump start myself then I will be able to make my goals. We will see... Headaches have a way of messing me up, but I usually have less of them in the winter.

Because I am traveling in feb I've decided to get a flu shot. I hate them because I usually have a reaction to them. My PA says it has something to do with the egg incubation. I'm not sensitive to eggs, but the last time I got a shot I was sick for five days with a fever of 103.8. YIKES. Plus I paid for the shot bummer ....

Cowinkie.... a fever of 103.8 doesn't go along with the egg incubation theory, does it?

Thank you for the link.

I still seem to need a better running start at my healthy habits. I can't continue with stressful deadlines and expect to live up to them. Perhaps the school year starting back is what's needed as a "start" on the calendar, rather than the day of the month.

Day 4 .8 miles on the Gazelle 7873 steps. (not sure it isn't more cause my pedometer isn't the best)

I am pleased with results on my scale particularly because I ate out last night with Norma and Mr. Guy. It's a wonderful Mexican place Mr. Guy likes to eat at.

I have eliminated all flour, sugar and starches from my diet except for a half of grapefruit in the morning. Trying not to drink any diet products, but will do so when eating out. Also I am replacing much of the chicken and beef with fish. So far so good. I am not hungry but am making myself eat 3 meals anyway.

I am drinking my coffee black. I am hoping and working towards making my first goal tomorrow. I am already close so we shall see.
