Just waking up and posting from bed. Great sunrise over the ocean. I could see it because of the balcony door. Remind me of that when I complain about the motion in this cabin. Our regular cabin is much quieter and moves less but lacks this view because the window gets salty and can only be cleaned once in port.
Don't know the temp outside.

Re: Polar Vortex Tuesday
Weatherbug online says 5 degrees here. I had TMJ dental appt at 8:30 and it was wonderful to have my car in the garage. According to temp reading from car, lowest temp I saw was 8 degrees while out. Thermostat inside is set at 66 and I am so cold; we were asked to reduce thermostats and turn off nonessential appliances in this general area but I don't know if I can stand any less.
I am sooooo happy to have most of this week free, now that I got through the hurdle of yesterday's multiple bereavement functions (funeral and shiva.) I am thinking I will not go to shiva for the young man whose funeral was yesterday; I perhaps will make challah and take to their house later in the week. I need to get to post office this afternoon to mail pkg to dd.
Tomorrow I have an evening event, then meeting w rabbi on Thursday a.m. I'd like to schedule body work/massage again after the holiday hiatus as I'm feeling pretty stiff and achy these days, especially with the cold temps.

Re: Polar Vortex Tuesday
Brrrrrrrr! It was 8 degrees here this morning. The lock on our shed where we keep the bird seed was frozen shut. Dh came out with his trusty hand held torch & thawed it out for me while I filled the birdbath with a pot full of water from the kitchen (because the outside spigot was frozen, too).
Feeling terrific today & have started taking down the Christmas decorations. That will be my main focus for today. If my energy holds up I hope to do some cleaning this afternoon including vacuuming. Right now the last two loads of laundry are in the washer & dryer. Stopped to take a call from a dfriend & we had a nice chat, with plans to visit soon.
Interesting discussions on high school & college options here recently. The university I graduated from started a partnership with a two year community college near dbro a few years ago. Students in the program who graduate from the community college can then transfer to the university & all their credits are accepted.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Re: Polar Vortex Tuesday
Going to try to accomplish something - perhaps I'l warm up if I'm moving. Apparently peak demand for power has passed and okay to turn up thermostat a bit now...up to 68.
-clean up spilled coffee grounds from dMacs' raid on kitchen garbage
-clear breakfast bar counter
-clear kitchen counters
-wash up last of hand washable stuff from Sunday evening
-straighten up my desk

Later on when dgd is here we may try a corn bread one, maybe even in the crockpot.

Hello Dear Ladies,
finally got my time for surgery tomorrow. It is for 6:30 a.m. and I have to be there 2 hours before for prep. I'm not an early morning gal so this will be a challenge itself. Please pray all goes well.

((Sadie))- Yikes that's early! Prayers for ease and grace throughout the procedure and recovery. We'll be waiting to hear your good news afterwards.
Hello and good morning from the West coast. Thinking of Lucylee last night - so sorry her team lost at the very last minute.
And reading all the newsreports of the Polar Vortex - stay safe all my friends in that frigid weather.
Off to the adventures of the day.

Re: Polar Vortex Tuesday
As it turned out we only had intermittent hot water when I started the last round. Would run cold awhile, then eventually turn to hot, then cold again. Phone call to builder's rep who deals w maintenance issues got him here and he was able to troubleshoot - we have a tankless water heater and the condensation drain had frozen closed. He warmed it up with hair dryer and I wrapped a pool noodle over the outside portion and the inside part nearest to the wall. Also have a small heater going in the garage, but I don't know that it is actually necessary.
Continuing to try to work...
-wash up last of hand washable dishes from Sunday evening
-straighten up my desk
-assuming water seems okay, start the dishwasher
-sort, and start a lol
-make the bed
Ddogs have still not had a walk - temp is up to 17. Probably after this round I should bundle up and take them out. They are underfoot every time I move for now.

Re: Polar Vortex Tuesday
Okay I tried a theme a month for a while but fizzled out after Easter when gardening season started. With just h. & I here seemed a bit much as we don't have folks over all that much.
Today we baked corn bread muffins, I cooked up some yummy onions for fiber lunch is over. Dgd helped feed the hens I got water out to another one that I found that was frozen over that I'd missed.

Re: Polar Vortex Tuesday
Twins, how do your dogs do in the cold?
(Sadie) that is really early. Hopefully that will work in your favor, as you will get in to their lineup before any holdups occur.
Harriet, I did not know all that about this weather. All I know is that I am freezing. It is a couple degrees below 70 back here in the office (furthest away from the thermostat) and out there it registers 70 - but I'm not used to this and have 2 long sleeved things on but am shivering and my fingers are all curled up with the cold.
It did not freeze last night. It was somewhere in low 40's, and it's a good thing because it was very very windy and some of the coverings blew off. We will have to anchor better next time.
Had to go out early to a mailing at church. Stopped at library and bank on the way back. I have 1 LOL waiting to be hung up, but I think I'll hang it in the garage today. Did a bunch of paperwork. Ak! So cold. I need to go look for some soup. I should be ashamed to complain here, y'all have it so much worse.
