Helia... I have a friend who raised two pups together. She's supper good with horses and dogs and we laughingly call her the dog whisperer. I've seen her in action in all different situations with dogs. However when her pups turned 7 and 8 the older dog began becoming aggressive with the 7 year old when around my friend and her mother. One night they were all sharing the couch watching tv as they had done countless times in the past. For whatever the reason, which my friend could never figure out, the older dog went after the younger one and about killed her.
My friend is trained for these types of situations a still this one almost got the best of her. After she broke up the fight and cleaned up the dogs it became apparent a vet trip was needed. However she made the decision to put her older dog down because she felt she couldn't trust the older dog to not do it again. These are two dogs that shared the same bed and were best buds. My friend had such difficult time doing it. She loved that dog more than anything.
Here in the Phoenix area we have had a rash of dog fights and attacks where owners or kids have been hurt. Sweetie and I always carry postal approved pepper spray when we walk are dogs. Sweetie and Sadie were attacked by a pack of dogs, not pits by the way a while back. The dogs went after Sadie and Sweetie somehow managed to pick Sadie up while kicking off the dogs. After sweetie found blood all over Sadie and though she had been bit, the blood was his. When he went to pick Sadie up, in her excitement she bit Sweetie on his cheek.
Sweetie had to take Sadie to the vet, and when he saw sweetie's cheek he treated it as well. Now we never walk dogs alone or together without pepper spray for just that reason. Because we havea boxer and a boxer mix if another dog went after ours, regardless of the outcome ours would be held responsible, so we do all we can to make sure that won't happen.
Break time over... I am purging my pantry. Oh my goodness what a mess, but it's sure going to look purdy when I finish
and then dozed off in my recliner after that. 
Later, after the mail came, I put on SPF 50 and DH and I walked in the fresh air and sunshine for 20 minutes. It was nice to chat with him and get out. I might sit a bit on Dad's memorial bench on the patio this evening, too. I might read, journal or start a letter. 
But I also heard if you wear a whistle on a lanyard around your neck, it's a good thing, too, because it can alert others of an emergency or perhaps ward off a dog, if that works.
