At 11 eastern time zone, I'll disable the boards for about 20 minutes in order to try another backup. Not sure if you'll be able to read the boards but not post or if the boards will be down completely.

Go dust something.

I'll post and email again when the boards are back up.

(If you are downloading your posts, it will fail.)

Sorry, didn't mean a second post but the SHE boards are really slow for me these days. I suspect it is members trying to download their posts. I hadn't thought that one through and with multiple people trying at once, it is bound to slow us down.

I need to back up the boards again. I did it the other day but missed the step "disable the boards." The restore failed immediately and we are hoping that is why.

So far today I've got up, s2s, remade the bed with clean sheets, responded to email, got rid of all empty boxes and packing paper (YAY!!!!) and am on my second load of laundry. Dh is asking when I'll vacuum and dust, not a good sign. Especially since I vacuumed a few days ago! Regular housework is not really on my radar at the moment, I'm responding to disasters only.

Dd will be here in the afternoon. But I wanted to try the easy stuff first in case I don't need her help with the boards at all. So that's how I know the backup I already made isn't working straight off the bat.

I see we are back up here. Yay! (Always good when one doesn't break things - fear of that is precisely why we waited so long to deal with the move - we had a complete home and didn't want to break it unnecessarily.)

Second LOL is in the dryer. Need to sit down now. I'm in the office at the moment so realize I can move a box and sit on the exercise bike.

BTW: did anyone get an email from the boards with the announcement that we would be down? I sent two (one saying we're going down, another saying we are back up) but didn't get either myself.

Yes, Kathryn. The (one) email I have received was verbatim the one you posted here.

I have not yet received the second, but then there is no accounting for the time an email takes, sometimes.

Dee, place (hover) your cursor over your own handle somewhere on a page, as if you were going to click on your own name, but don't click. Look at the bottom left of your screen to see an e-addy (our site's) in a gray box. At the end of that address will be a number - probably two digits. That's the one. Sometimes it takes a second for it to come up fully.

If Kathryn will be working with the boards further now, it may not work to try to retrieve any posts to our own computers right now anyway.

I got the message.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HELIA!

Mr. Guy has had successful knee surgery and feeling pretty good when he called a bit ago. As his surgeon told me yesterday, "now the fun begins". They have had him walking in his room this a.m. and the therapist will be coming in to put him through his paces.

Norma: thanks for letting me know. I went off and found the messages to me in a spam filter!

For the next few days it is possible the boards will be up and down like a toilet seat lid (especially in my bathroom since things fall from the cabinet above it quite often!) The downloads only seem to take a few minutes so I'm not going to bother announcing them any more. Just give yourself a couple of minutes and retry.

In the meantime, don't bother with the post saving software since it isn't working well with me disrupting the boards all the time. We'll work out a way of saving your posts if needed. We have yet to give up hope, although, so far today, there's been little success. We are taking the attitude that each failure teaches us something new.

Aha! I see it, Harriet. Know most things are easy if we know where/what to look for.
