As I expected, after yesterday's whirlwind of activity, today I want to do NOTHING. I woke up starving, and have eaten enough for my normal breakfast AND lunch, I guess, in one sitting.

I don't know what I want to do today, actually... I have been putting off getting my eyes rechecked and this would be a good day to do it.

OTOH, part of me just wants to go back to bed.

At least I'm healthy... sending lots of (((BIG HUGS))) to all our SHE's who are feeling so terrible... (((Kathryn))) & (((Harmony))) * AND (((LO))) * -- hope y'all feel much better SOON.
Oh -- dmom has a small pad in front of her sink, like Harmony is talking about, and she LOVES it. She wants to get the runners to go all the way around her kitchen.

Wealthy... nah... and I must admit, my mind is spinning a bit wondering how ds/ddil are going to manage their financial business... trying for another baby... big, big plans for dmil's house... a car that needs work... but like I said yesterday -- they know what they've got and what they don't, and ds is very conservative, intelligent, & sensible -- they both are, to a large extent, although ddil thinks they can build a house if they have to, and I just don't see anyway they could afford that. But it's not my circus... they're not my monkeys. LOL -- well, in a way, you know, you feel like your kids ARE your monkeys. But all I can do is preach saving and making wise choices. It's really THEIR circus, isn't it?

Wise? Hah. I told y'all I wasn't smart enough to be a grandma. * smh *

Of course we all know I'm the poster child for the anti-early to rise movement, so maybe that's the root of all my problems. I see no solution to that situation, however, as long as I am living with dh, so... it is what it is. Thanks for the good start to the day, anyway, Harriet.

Nancy -- what cable company do you have? Dmom has C harter and complains constantly about it.

Lilac, that is just so sad about dd's dog! The colors on your dd's house sound beautiful. Painting is one thing ddil really wants to do at dmil's house. I think I told y'all -- the house is a solid red brick, with beige trim and dark green shutters. Ddil wants shutters a dark/navy blue, I think, but I don't know what she wants to do with the trim. I hope they can afford to cover it in vinyl and solve the paint problem. Dmil had it painted a year or so ago, and one section is already peeling and chipping off again.

LOL re: Facebook. I told dbro he should set dmom up with an account. He said NO WAY. I think partly he doesn't want her "spying" on his page, but mostly he is afraid of what SHE would end up saying on there. I think (hope!) dmom has more restraint than dbro thinks, but then again, who knows? Dbro says, "I'm afraid she will take a pain pill and no telling what she would end up saying on there..." Besides the fact that she might go on spells where she we just ramble ramble ramble like I was talking about last night, and even more people would think she was nuts. * smh again *

We need to get started on that sort of chore, Dee... cleaning out papers/etc from dmil's house & office... ds, ddil, and I are so anxious to get started ASAP, dh seems to be taking the path of least resistance -- just wait till dbil says something, and dbil has said NOTHING in quite some time re: getting started. I told ddil yesterday, I will say something to dbil as soon as I hear from the antique lady, who is supposed to be getting prices on dishes for us. I think I will look them up myself on Replacements.com site. I don't think any of them are expensive, actually, but maybe they will be listed there.

I think I'm more healthy and wise than wealthy! Will pay $1,300 out-of-pocket for my root canal next week. My eye appt. is paid for. It's later this week.

It's sunny here, will be in the mid-80's. Showers are on their way tomorrow and Labor Day weekend, too.

Harmony, Some schools don't start until Wed. Sept. 3rd, around here. So it's not a surprise to me, if Dee's DGS9 isn't in school yet. Also, Get Well Soon!

Apologies to LM for giving LO our colds.

I'm actually feeling pretty great right now. Like LO is experiencing, I wake up feeling lousy, then feel fine, then lousy towards bedtime. At the pace this cold is moving, I'll be sick for weeks. I like the colds where you get swollen glands in the morning, then burning throat, then the congestion sets in by bedtime. The following day may be miserably congested but in 48 hours the bulk of the cold is over and all that is left is a thick feeling but you can fake your way through the day. The fact that dh, on day 5, had to take to bed for the day is a sign that this is a lingering bug.

Harmony I've got two stress mats in the kitchen. One in front of the sink which also covers the food prep area where I make my tea and unloading the dishwasher and the other in front of the stove which covers the stove area and a second food prep area. There's another stress mat in front of my bathroom sink. They help but the apartment's huge so there's a lot of walking from work-space to work-space so I'd need to put in wall-to-wall in order to make a big difference. Today I'm using the "keep off my feet" method. Which is good for the foot, bad for the rest of me.

I took my shower and it was so miserable I resolved to move away from this place at the end of the year. First I couldn't get hot water. Moved to the office bath tub (different water supply) and it had hot from the spigot so I went back to mine to check and sure enough it was hot there. Finally got hot water from the showerhead on pulse. Then switched to regular and it went cold for a while but then was usable. And weak tea coloured (I swear I was not that dirty!) Then it went scalding so I turned it to drip while shaving my legs and it went to cold. Didn't warm up again and the pressure was completely gone so I had to hold the wand and put the water stream on my body to try and rinse. Dh took a shower in his bathroom and had water pressure issues.

After breakfast we went to brush our teeth and had no water. Thankfully, I have a couple of gallons in the laundry room for such a situation. So we rinsed our brushes and mouths with that. Then phoned-in "no water" and learned there had been an emergency and shutting the water supply to the whole building was the only solution.

Ds called, needing a ride so I heading off to pick him up from the car rental place, then drove 30 minutes to pick up his car and then home. Had to pee (actually since before leaving but no water = no toilet) so I had lunch out on the way back.

Came along the parkway to the apartment and lots of flashing lights and federal police. There's a weird piece of art at the corner commemorating the shooting of a Turkish diplomat and today there was some sort of ceremony talking about the killing (cold blooded and unsolved, the attache was on his way to work, stopped at the light and was shot through the passenger's window with the shooter heading into the woods by my place) and terrorism (the Armenian separatists claimed the killing.)

So there was the noise from that for a while but it is over now. The Thai embassy is below my bedroom window so I pay attention to their political situation. A stray bomb would be disruptive.

I need to bike over to the post office and pick up our mail and cancel the hold. Will see if dh wants to come with me.

I need to add that Ruby seems to be in no pain and acts happy. That is why dd1 and her dh can not bring themselves to put her down. If that changes they will do what's necessary with very heavy hearts. Ruby is the dog that started out with dd2s family. When they moved from this house in Nov. 2011 they did not have a fenced yard so dd1s family adopted her. That made 3 dogs and then when dsil's dm went to the nursing home in May, they adopted her dog for a total of 4 dogs. They are all small dogs.

I only cleaned the kitchen pantry. It took way longer because I discovered those bugs or whatever that leave the white, scaled skin and love rice and pasta. Uggh! So I opened everything and either discarded it or if it was all right, I put the whole pkg. in a ziploc bag. Between that and outdated items I threw away 2 13 gallon garbage bags plus a handled shopping bag of stuff. As if I didn't feel bad enough about the waste, I opened my hometown newspaper and there was a picture of a line of people more than a block long, holding laundry baskets. They were in line waiting for a mobile food pantry. I just felt sick to think of what I threw away and being reminded of how dire the conditions are in our hometown. I have resolved to not buy anything that I already have, no matter how good of a bargain it is, until what I have is used. With dh retiring in 4+ months, I need to develop better habits and not stock up on things that are rarely used. I need to buy them as needed.

Better get a shower.

Found our mail. It was in the mail box here in the building. But we biked to the postal outlet first. They don't hold the mail while we are away, that happens at a sorting station and then it is delivered the day the hold ends.

We asked what happens, since there will be too much for the mail box. Then it is treated as a parcel and will end up back at the postal outlet. But she was sure our box would be big enough for all our mail. Really? If that's the case, why bother putting a hold on it in the first place?!

On the way back to the apartment we saw the mail carrier's truck so stopped and talked with her. She said the mail was in the box and it fit. If it won't fit (such as when we come back from a long trip) she brings it upstairs to the apartment itself and delivers it directly to us if we are home. So, as long as we are home the afternoon after the hold ends, we'll get our mail delivered right to the building. Oh, and she welcomed us to the neighbourhood!

It felt good to be out on the bike again. I might go for a longer ride tomorrow.

I am healthy I do not smoke or drink & ex. Daily. Wealthy have $100 bill in my wallet. Wise hum thinking. I stock up on food.

Congratulations Helia! That sounds like a wonderful opportunity for you and they are lucky to have you!

Hmmm. Dinner is planned for tomorrow night. But tonight is up in the air.

Tomorrow we'll be out at the house in the afternoon to wash the car and go through stuff with the new buyers. It is garbage day on Friday and so I'll be putting things out but want them to look over the 'useful' stuff to see what they need. As well there are moving boxes that we won't need and they are moving!

I'll also pick up all the stuff I have to give away and drop that off on the way home.

For dinner, we'll pickup Chinese for dh and I'll just have a frozen dinner.

I guess I should say I think I'm healthy... have to go for check-up Sept. 10. * ugh * And I continue to put off making appt for mammogram. I've never had a colonoscopy. So there could be something lurking in there, you know... and in light of losing dcousin at age 48 this summer... I'm so scared of bad news that I just prefer not to know, I guess. DH's anti-doctor attitude has rubbed off on me, I guess. But I will keep the appt in Sept. and if he REALLY fusses about the mammogram, I'll make an appt for that.
I don't smoke or drink, either, Nancy, so that's a plus... and I just figured out that I have walked (and/or "walked away the pounds") for a total of 130 miles so far this year. That's a BIG plus, I think, for me. I'm still probably at least 40 pounds overweight, but my blood pressure and blood sugar has always been normal when checked. HOWEVER -- obgyn will not check that so, since I no longer have school health screenings, I don't really know. I do not get regular lab work w/general practicioner, b/c I don't see him for any ongoing meds, just if I have a long-running something that causes me to need an antibiotic, basically.

Wealthy... I guess a lot of people would say we're wealthy -- especially when you consider the entire world population -- so I shouldn't sound as if I'm taking any blessings for granted. Our house and cars are paid for and we are able to pay off our credit card bill every month, so we really have no debts, and that is huge, I guess, in today's economy. Except for eating out, movies, travel and sports, we really don't spend any money, though. I mean, I hardly ever go shopping for anything unless it is really absolutely necessary, and I was just thinking yesterday, as I was vacuuming -- I haven't redecorated ANYTHING in this house in 35 years. Well, we did change living room rugs when the old one got a hole in it... and we replaced the couch and then re-covered the one we have now. That's about it. We also have a different bedspread than the one we started with.

So, I'm thankful... even if I don't feel very wise, LOL! And I am very thankful that ds, ddil, and dgs are healthy, and by the above standards, they are also wealthy. And for young people, I guess they are usually wise, too.

Boy, Kathryn... the water situation there would be driving me crazy. I'm glad you found out it was an unusual circumstance, though. And sounds like the mail carrier is going to be good!

I did NOT make it to Wmart for the eye exam -- dh wanted to walk, and I didn't want to discourage his efforts -- plus I needed desperately to get my exercise in, also. So while I was waiting for him to get off the computer and into his walking shoes, I did complete my full morning routine goals, inspite of my donwanna beginnings.
