Lilac: would she comment less if people were commenting on her status updates? Is she posting updates about herself? Do they send her private messages all the time? If this is the only way she can get attention or feel a part of their lives, this is what she'll do. But if she feels like she is interacting with others directly, perhaps she'll stop commenting on everything.

BTW: how many people have actually picked up the phone and told her, person to person, how they feel about her FB activity? She doesn't know she's annoying anyone until people TALK (not type) to her about it.

It was a comment I made on FB to one of dd's friends that made her cry today when we were on the phone. Her friend had written a wonderful 'status' update on what her 4 year old is like as she heads off to school. That was hard enough on dd, but my comment that it was so lovely it made me cry, made her feel bad because she wasn't giving me grandkids. It wasn't the fact that I have no grandkids that made me cry, it was thinking about how much I miss my 'little' children now that they are grown up. I like & love my kids now but I miss how they were, as well. I didn't write any of that so dd misconstrued why her friend's comment made me cry.

BTW: this is the bit that makes me cry:
A couple of times this summer when I wished on a dandelion, I wished out loud "that my kids would be happy and healthy and love me forever". Weeks later, we were lying in bed before sleep time, and she turns to me out of the blue and says "mommy, I will always love you forever, you don't have to wish for it."
Isn't that just the sweetest thing and doesn't it remind you of times when your little ones melted your hearts?

Still waiting to hear if I have a meeting today. I just realized that I wasn't sure.

In the meantime, I updated quicken and paid bills so I made some progress.

Just a quick C. I., as I've got a busier day today.

I just don't do FB and it's because of all the problems I've heard that come with it. I've had several pen pals, who were really great ones, get hooked on FB and their pen pal lists there. They made new friends there, kept talking about FB, wrote less and less and then stopped. Then, one gal was addicted to Farmville, I think it's called, was spending a lot of $$ (REAL $) to buy more lands, animals, etc... So she faded out into the long blue yonder of FB land, too! Then, there was a recent family situation I heard about where 1 member ranked on another in a comedic way, but it was taken all wrong, so she disowned her own son, trying to save face and embarrassment. I have my own writer's group, pen pals, the Village here, my job, and decided long ago, I don't need to add FB to my repertoire. It's much more peaceful this way. I know a LOT of people get a LOT out of it though. Kudos to them, too. But it's just not for me nor the headaches it can cause, which I've seen again and again, in other situations, hearing from others. This is ALL just IMHO. No pointing fingers or anything because FB does bring a LOT of people together and fulfills their lives, too. :D

I need to run. Have a great day, Everybody!

Hi everyone. The pace of life is picking up here so I'm finding myself with less time to post. That is not a bad thing, as long as I'm not overwhelmed, which I'm not - yet. Yesterday, I had a meeting re: starting an international small group in our church's moms group in the morning. I also took dd16 to and from school, went to the groc. store, made choc. chip cookies (1st day of school tradition here), made a crockpot full of chili, took dd16 to her oboe lesson 5 - 6+ pm. Dh took dd16 to and from drumline, 7 - 9 pm while I prepped for moms group steering comm. meeting this am: writing out devotional and ordering bagels and coffee from Panera. Dfriend B also called at some point and wanted to know all about my trip to NYC. She is a great friend that way.

This am, I got up early to edit my devotional and put together the agenda for the meeting. Then, I did a.m. routine self care and was out the door late at 8:30 to pick up my Panera order and head over to the church for the meeting. Dh called while I was at Panera as I had inadvertently locked him out. . .So, I stopped by home en route to the church. I'm home from that meeting now, eating a quick lunch, and planning to leave again in about 45 minutes to meet with the curriculum coordinator at my new payroll job. I need to finish reading the 16 page handbook first, and have questions for her, a few of which I already do have. . .I plan to be done with her in time to pick up dd16 from school. Other than a run to an office supply store for school supplies for dd16, I will then be on my own time for the rest of the day. I will need to prep for interview with a new child care worker for the moms group. With an MA in education from Columbia Univ. NY, I think she'll be an awesome addition, and I'm hoping she'll take the one open teaching position. (Other positions are either with infants or as a helper to a teacher.) She is expecting, though, so that is one drawback.

I love to hear of you dd's desire to go to grad school, ((Twins)). Understand the frustrations and the desire for her to be employable at the end of it all. Hoping things work out for her and your family.

More I'd like to say, but I need to go.

Hi everyone! I am up and have the Jehovah's Witnesses to thank for it. They came to my door at the perfectly reasonable time of 9:50, but guess who was still in bed. I called through my window that I would be a minute. (I always try to be nice to them, they are my neighbors. I'm not interested in converting, but I am not interested in making enemies either.) Cats fed and med. I did not work on costumes last night - really must soonest. I have printed my crisis cleaning jar papers and will set that up. (Grab a slip of paper and work for 15 minutes on whatever is there until all are done. Toss paper when item is complete.) Almost all the car stuff can be removed because I had a massive spill over the weekend and the interior is now vacuumed within an inch of its life. The car is at the 'spa' today getting its check engine light diagnosed. I will get my exercise in when I walk to pick it up. Unlike the X, they do offer to pick me up and drop me off. However, they are closer and I still need the exercise.

This afternoon will be devoted to job search activity. Church's Wednesday Night Out is back on, but it is too far away for feet! I am not sure if there is a Bible study yet. There is a new one starting next Sunday, 530 to 630. DD12's youth group meets 5-7, so I will just stay put, taking crochet for the dead time.

Must go. Time for me care, early lunch, and crisis cleaning setup.

I guess my meeting was cancelled as no-one was there. Chatted for a minute with the outgoing Presbytery minister and then headed to a library. They've redesigned this place since I was last here and it is lovely. The study carrels are set up for computers so are at the perfect height for me to type. Plus they have electrical plugs. So I could come here and work all day if I wanted to. (I love working at libraries - I find I'm less distracted than at home.)

Now to get myself organized in order to run the rest of my errands.

Well I'm not wavering. I'm pushing through an unusually busy stretch. Yesterday I thought about how many hours I'm putting in for our business and came to the conclusion that I couldn't possibly work any harder than I am. Today was no exception.

Helper was here doing stuff in the shop and stayed for lunch. Then I did some file work and noticed an important packet of paper missing, so guess what, I had to clean out the whole office to find it. DH had pulled everything from our step file and the packet got mixed in with all that. It looks nice in here for a change.

Helia, when do you start your new job?

I enjoyed reading posts, but I must get back to work here.

Kathryn, I don't think anyone comments on her status or PMs her. The ddils of db are all working gals with children and busy lives. She sees them all frequently because she goes to every ballgame that any of her great- grandchildren are in. I talked to dsisil awhile ago and she said that 2 of her dgds were upset because dm kept insisting that they play a FB game with her. Between school, sports, church activities they too are busy. Dsisil agreed with me that it is their responsibility to deal with this, not mine. Dd2 thinks they are making a mountain out of a molehill. She said dm had tagged herself in every single picture on her FB page. She thought it was ridiculous but not worth hurting dm's feelings. Twins, I mentioned to dsisil your idea of them changing their settings.

Kathryn, I had an ah-ha moment after reading your post. I have been in a funk for weeks. I always enjoyed my girls being home and was never anxious for school to start or for them to be grown up and out of the house. The ah-ha moment was when I realized that even though they are grown, they still both went back to school with the new school year. I so identify with your statement that you miss your "little" children and miss how they were.

I have done nothing but talk on the phone or mess around on the computer, so I have to get busy................

I'm calling that round done for now.

Helia, I think it's not so much that she wants to go to grad school - she commented yesterday that dh and I seem to expect her to go, and I told her it's because job prospects for Judaic studies majors with an undergrad degree are not great - particularly since she has decided that Judaic education is not her thing. Also on a negative note, I'm frustrated that she doesn't respect my things. I've always been generous about allowing her to wear my clothes and jewelry, but it drives me crazy that she won't take care of them properly. If she wears my earrings, I can almost bet that I won't get both of them back. So I found evidence in my closet of her trying things on and not putting them away, I had to have her take my earrings off before she left on Monday, and there are probably some of my things upstairs in her room on the floor.

I need to get to the grocery today.

-pay dsis' electric bill online
-reboot laundry
-finalize grocery list and errand list
-15 minutes straightening up laundry room
-15 minutes upstairs in bonus room

Then I will head out for groceries et al

My friend did cards in her house too we both still follow it after a fashion. I am sure it will come up.

Afternoon check in: I have done cat care, me care, eaten a good lunch with vegetables, and made 2 DPC. I set up my crisis clean jar and pulled 15 minutes of hallway. It is now floor to ceiling DONE and I have removed that piece of paper from the jar. I am hearing the call of computer Scrabble, but I don't want to get sidetracked onto that! I want to get out 2 resumes, plus search for other places to send them. Then, I need to work on some Halloween sewing and will reward myself with studying Java. (Yes, I know that last sounds incredibly weird, but I am a geek).

BBL with resumes done!
