Working on Dining room baseboards. Painted Old English Scratch Cover For Dark Wood on the baseboards then it wiped off.. Baseboards look 1000% better! so simple to do....why haven't I done it before?

It was DBro that has had both shoulders (and knees) replaced. DNephew has never had any health issues.

When DBro came to check cattle in our pasture this morning, I visited with him about details of the fire. Sooo many blessings! They lost less hay bales than DNephew wife thought last night - the exact count ins't known but it is closer to 1500 than 2000. They only lost 1 head of cattle out of the 1600 steers that was within 1/2 mile of the fire. In the excitement the steer got tangled up in fence and had to be put down. DBro named about a dozen local ranchers who showed up without being asked - bringing their own equipment with them. He said they managed to move about 1000 bales of hay in less than an hour to make room for a fire break around the burning hay.. it was like a hornets nest with dozen of hay moving equipment darting in/out of the fire to grab/stab hay bales before they caught on fire. Not only were they focused on what they were doing and not hitting each other, they also were watching the bales being pulled out of harms way to make sure they weren't burning. He said the fire was going through the rows of hay bales about as fast as a person could walk (a round hale bale is approx 6' diameter). Today they will use big equipment to stir up the now smoldering hay so it can finish burning. They hope to have the fire completely extinguished by tonight.

LadyM, that is a great story of neighborliness. So true that a fire in baled hay is a racing inferno and yes, a great danger when it flares later. Sounds like everyone really knew what they were doing. Much gratitude that it was not in a barn. Also that the cattle were in open air.

Ran out for cash to get the cash price from the roofer for this small job that turned larger after he himself arrived on the scene to help employee. Sigh. Oh well, HRH okayed it and says he had noticed the further need when he was on the roof, but roofer did not think it was important then. Double sigh.

It's okay - I have nothing to do but run unexpected errands today. So I have been running.

While out, since I'd only had coffee, I swung through the BK drivethrough at 10:20. 10:20 by my watch. 10:20 by the car's clock. 10:20.

For the second time, they would not serve me a breakfast because they had already changed over to lunch. That makes me irritated enough to forget them. But I did have a "moment" with the person at the microphone. Corporate says BK serves breakfast until 10:30 unless they choose to make it 11:00. So, being in Eastern time zone, that means they were the only BK on earth that wasn't serving breakfast. I know this saves them money by guaranteeing them all the breakfast food is purchased. I do NOT care. If they didn't want to play in the breakfast game they shouldn't have signed up for it. pouting face

I remember once in FL, Harriet, that dbil took some of us to breakfast at a particular restaurant -no longer in existence. Breakfast was clearly marked until 11am. We got there before 10:30. Waitress took our orders and we all had coffee. After a bit she came back & said they'd be a little longer. A while later she came back and said we could no longer get breakfast, it was too late! So dbil decided we were leaving and left no tip, paid for the coffee with a $50 bill and said when we were outside he'd wished he had a $100 bill. Told him he should have said something -I had one in my purse hidden away. We never went back.

Not sure dh is coming for his lunch. He came by a little before noon but had to go down the road to winterize an RV. Thought he was coming back. Made him a grilled cheese, green pepper, ham sandwich on rye. Made one for me -DELICIOUS! (COOKED PEPPERS) Put a little mayo on them since I took all the mustard to ds-A's last night. Don't have too much left in the refrigerator to use up. Think I will make manhattan clam chowder tomorrow. We'll have that for a couple of days & I'll freeze some for dh. He'll have plenty in the freezer for after I leave.

I'd like to go see my dfriend a couple of RVs away, but not sure what dh is doing. If he's not having lunch, may just refrigerate this and warm it for him tomorrow -or maybe I'll have it for dinner -while he's at the fire department's appreciation dinner. Now he says he wishes he'd said, "no". But I'm glad he's going. Work will always be there!

I desperately need a dose of motivation.

I've finally s2s and had lunch.

Our speakers for the emergency system in the building have been checked (one speaker somewhere in the building has been disconnected or has a short and so they have to inspect every unit which involves climbing a ladder, undoing screws, pulling the unit out, testing, and reversing the process - it will be a long day for the superintendent and the guy from the alarm company.)

Dh ran some errands for himself.

I would imagine DS-A, DDIL#2, DGS2 and DDIL's dmom are at the port in Newark by now. Think boarding for their cruise is around 4 o'clock. Know ddil said they had to be up and about before 5 this morning. DGS15 stayed home last night -she was a bit concerned that he be able to get himself up in time for the bus this morning. But his dssis said she'd call to make sure he was up. She's staying with a friend in town while they're away. Hoping dgs enjoys this trip -not sure I'd want to be doing it with a 2-year old. But that's why ddil's mom is along -to help with the babysitting.

G'Afternoon everyone!

Yesterday I had planned on a modified desk day, but dh asked if I would like to go with him to pick up rx refill at drugstore then take a walk through W-M for some easy exercise. So that's what we did. I bought a few miscellaneous items.

Last night I got about 3 hours of sleep then woke up and could not fall asleep again. I got up about 7 when dh got up, we had breakfast cleaned up the kitchen and tidied bedroom, saw to dogs needs, etc. After lunch I took a short nap and feel better. There are now three loaves of pumpkin bread in the oven. Smells good in here!

Sadie, I do hope your dfamily feels better soon.

LadyM, I felt so bad for your dnephew when I read of the fire. It is a blessing that the neighbors watch out for one another and come to help when needed. Sorry for the loss of that steer---even one is too much to lose!

Dee, I hope the weather is not too bad for your drive south. It seems like you will be going right through my dson#3's hometown, Fredericksburg is about 30 south of them. You should have a nice view of all the fall colors. And, good sailing for ds and dFamily!

I'm on my lunch hour from work, so this is a quick C. I. Sorry.

I'm handwriting page 5 of a story, which has 10 pages stapled together, so will end there, by hand, unless my "Muse" gets going more wildly, taking me to get more paper, stapled as add-on pages.

I ate split pea soup for lunch, b/c DH is at his luncheon and the characters in the short story I'm working on, had homemade chicken soup in the slow cooker. I got hungry for a hot bowl of soup. DH hates split pea soup. The MORE FOR ME!

I have 1 LOL drying, 1 LOL on a timer to go off in a bit, I emptied the DW, made the bed, washed 3 toilets, rode my bike and read, while I rode. Next up, on my list is to dump trash, wash 4 mirrors, but I'm SO DISCOURAGED at my mirrors! I am smearing them, so they don't look clean. I've tried vinegar and water with a lint-free towel or with coffee filters, Windex, etc.. I'll keep trying until I get it right, or less smeary-looking.

I finished reading Cynthia Ewer's organizing book last night, I re-did my morning and before bed routines, on the computer, cut the pages, put them into my Home Journal, and added some index cards from my old smaller home journal, too. Next, I want to add some important phone #'s, addresses, some inspirational poems and quotes. I can do them all by hand, on the lined pages OR print them on the computer, so they are tidier, then staple the pages in. It sounds like a woman with a perfection problem, if I did them on the computer. I'm an old calligrapher, so am thinking about taking colored pens and writing in various lettering fonts. Like the Dot Alphabet, etc... Then, I can decorate the pages with stickers.

I need to run and get back to work. I've only got 2 minutes to go on my lunch break. I got up early, s2s, dressed, got pretty, for work, etc.... It was nice to get "ready" and BE ready, in case the mail carrier comes or anything.

Not getting as much done as I'd like. With roofers and HRH's friend, plus dd16's engineering club stuff, there is just too much press of people and expectations for me to have good chunks of time.
