hi I have a question: my young cousins (20ish) are coming in from France for Christmas. Last time one came she could not get cash from her credit card - and we ended up paying for everything.. it was okay and they are lovely but I don't want to do that again. Is there something they can get in Europe that will help them have cash here? Thanks so much

Today is my big football game and I have spent the morning "messing" with my son...I love being wicked sometimes ;)

Ouch, ouch, ouch Helia...I hate it when I hurt my little toe

MT... I meant to ask you

Are your coyotes singing at night in your neck of the woods? When I was walking Willis the other night I could hear them off in the distants, but by the time we were re-entering my community, they sounded really really close by. There was another pack behind us that seemed to be answering back to them so we were sort of in the middle.

The songs fron second group of coyotes were setting the dogs near me to singing too only their verse was a bit different...

I was expecting to see sets of yellow-green eyes shining in the distance, but I guess they were running in the wash/cannal near me. The cannals in all of the Phoenix areas are nature runs for the coyotes which explains why the first one I ever saw was lazily ambering acrossed a busy 4 lane downtown street. I had to look twice to make sure I had really seen :o

Actually, it is what is passing that upsets me - my system is obviously not doing well and I'm worried about bleeding in the upper digestive system.

Dh made me bacon and eggs for lunch. I took a ginger capsule to see if that settled my stomach any. Between the two I'm a little better.

Wanted Dr. Pepper (the only thing that settles me right now) so we walked to the store and got it. It was raining lightly when we left (no umbrella) and pouring on the way back. Thankfully, my jacket has a hood!

I'm feeling less upset right now but not a lot better. There have been studies showing this drug leads to suicidal thoughts (don't worry not me!) so it makes me wonder how much my sobbing is related to the drug (and not a reaction to feeling sick, being overwhelmed, the events of this week, etc.)

I was googling the meds to figure out another way of taking it. This stomach issue side effect is very common and there were suggestions. The list of instructions that came with the pills are all over the map. Take on empty stomach, 2 - 3 hours after eating, 1 hour before unless there's calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium in the meal, in which case I need to take the drugs 2 hours before I eat. So I set up the eating/pill schedule to make sure I didn't conflict. The instructions also say "if stomach upset occurs, taking it with food or milk may help." So when I so sick yesterday and called the pharmacy for an idea of how much food or milk, he flatly said NO MILK and if I'm taking it closer to a meal make sure there's no milk in that meal. I did take it closer to dinner last night and breakfast this morning (only allowing 90 minutes) but no results even when I have a few crackers an hour later.

Internet forums say to have a light snack when taking the food. For instance, a glass of water, 2/3 of a piece of toast, the pill with more water, then the rest of the toast. Others just break down and take it with milk because that's the only way they can stand it.

In other news, the service is finished and printed off. We still haven't picked an anthem yet. I just can't think of anything (partly due to my feeling so sick - my brain isn't working well.)

Dinner is McDonald's tonight. I'm hoping to buy my new electric kettle tonight. It is totally cool, mostly clear glass with black trim and a blue light so even in a dark room you can watch the water boil. I fell in love with it in February in NZ and starting looking for a 120v one here once I decided the kitchen would be black/stainless small appliances. Found this one and have been waiting patiently for a sale. This is the week, 50% off. I don't need a new kettle so this is why I waited so long. Dh thinks I'm nuts to have waited so long but my current kettle is white so didn't look out of place on the counter and works really well. I'll move it to ds's place and take back my travel kettle from him. I had to take my larger kettle with me this summer when we went to NS. (I keep a kettle and some tea bags at his place in case I want a cup of tea when visiting him.)

Kathryn... why not call your dr and tell him/her that you can't tolerate the meds you are taking and see if there is something else you can take. There are several anti-biotics that set me in a tizzy so I figure its my body say...nah, this isn't good for you either.

I can't tolorate erythromycin at all and I make sure the dr's know about it. Not allergic to it, it just plan makes me deadly sick, so maybe you're taking something that your body can't tolerate as well.

Glad to know your writing is done...peace of mind should help your tummie woos

Kathryn, I don't know what you are taking, but the antibiotics I took last month made me feel ill all the time. I took a sulfa drug, and something called nitrofurantoin but that's some generic name of something. I was pretty sad during that time too. I think all antibiotics are hard on our stomachs.

You guys wouldn't believe this. I've been all day getting this stuff together for the claim. I'm not sure it's worth it. Turns out this is from probably 25 years ago and DH used a PO Box # on everything instead of his house number. I was able to download an old deed so that helped. The house number on the claim is wrong also, and I can't prove he lived there - because that number does not exist. So I printed off the property appraiser's list for that street which shows that isn't a good number. No wonder he lost this stuff, he never got it! I also printed off the GIS map for those blocks which shows they didn't leave a property out.

Now I have a mess in the living room, piles of papers and files which need put away.
Don't know why I ever thought of doing this. Oh, well, I only lost a day of cooking and cleaning.

Arrived home from San Jose (and Los Gatos where we stay now) around 1 p.m. We were in rain from the time we left the motel in LG until we reached the summit of the Sierras and it cleared off and it is beautiful here, although windy. We know the storm in coming and we beat it home.
We had a wonderful time. The great grandkids are doing so well and they were so much fun. Had dinner at El Burro in Campbell with them last night and it was such a kick. They are just growing too darn fast for us. I want to live near them so bad. Now we won't see them again until we are back from AZ in April. Too long. We are lucky that our dd sends pictures and videos almost everyday. Otherwise - I would not make it through the winter.

Although Sharks lost to the Blue Jackets we had a great time. Actually better time than we have ever had. We got to have a short visit with people we were in Stockholm with exactly 4 years ago for the Sharks/Blue Jackets game. We were visited by Sharky the mascot and he sat behind me and beat his drum and then got up and gave us all Shark hugs. (He opens his mouth really wide and clamps down on our head. He is a riot and makes it so much fun.) A puck flew over the netting where we sit on the glass and dropped right at Mr. Guy's feet so he was a happy man. Our old Enforcer, Jody Shelley, is now retired and is in broadcasting working with his very first team and near his hometown of Columbus. He has always been a favorite of dd so when he is at the Shark Tank she makes darn sure she has a little visit with him and we lucked out and caught him just coming out of the BJ's locker room. He is ahem...HOT!"  I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed meeting him too.

There was a long moment of silence for the Canadian soldier and I am happy to report it was very quiet and very respectful. The girl that sings both our anthems did an especially beautiful job. I was proud of us. :D

Rosie I am so glad you are feeling so well. You worry me when you stay sick for so long.

Now that we are back home and that was our last (and only getaway) I pull out the list and the totes and start preparing for AZ. We are excited.

Pizza, Wings and Baseball here tonight. I sure hope our Giants can pull it out but I have an uncomfortable feeling, so.......we shall see.

Kathryn , I agree with others. An antibiotic doesn't 100% fit everybody's body. There are oodles of them out there, which will work & not cause the discomfort you're experiencing. A call to the Dr. would solve this. It's worth a try anyway.

When my Gastritis is acting up, & when it was absolutely intolerable, I had the Dr.'s diagnosis, he gave me tips & advice to follow, & I went on-line. I did a search on "Gastritis Diet." It helps to eat/drink these foods, so you don't have acid, gas in the stomach, GERD, pain in the upper belly & it cuts down on the feeling of vomiting or vomiting. Sorry, if it's TMI.

The diet consists of "some" things, as no coffee, no tea, no chocolate, spicy foods, fried foods, no pops, and there are things, which are good. Like poultry, fish, broiled, not fried. Almond butter is good. PB & margarine AND butter are O-U-T! Almonds are good for it. Something in the almonds help coat the stomach, making it feel much better, you get in protein, & you can buy them in bulk, too. I stayed away from eggs, because of the gas. I had broiled foods, canned foods, & frozen. I seemed to be able to tolerate those microwavable dinners just fine. I stopped using margarine on bread or toast, but used Almond Butter instead. Since I couldn't have butter or margarine on potatoes or rice, I use a sprinkle butter called Molly McButter. Rice is very good for this, too, especially for settling down the stomach & for protein.

I know the diet sounds absolutely terrible! But it sure worked/works for me. I use GasEx after meals & at bedtime. I'm feeling so much better. Yes, I "DO" have those days when.... I'll have something I shouldn't have had, or if I get stressed, I can have a "flare", but it goes away quickly & I'm my old self within a few hours, if I follow those Gastritis Diet guidelines.

I think that antibiotic you're on is the culprit, so I hope you'll be able to get onto a different one, which is much easier on your poor tummy. When people have "things" like this pop up into their lives, it affects everything, because we all need to eat food and/or drink, too. I certainly can sympathize with you. We ALL want to be able to eat, drink, & be merry, digest our food & feel good after we consume our meals & snacks. I wish you the very best. I hope you can get back to normal very soon. I hate seeing you suffer with this. You sounds strong, like you're a real trooper, you've been through so much in the past, health wise, too. I know you can & will get better & see some light at the end of the tunnel, too. Just wanted to let you know, I've been thinking of you, & will say some prayers, too. :D Good Luck!

For Lyme disease this is one of only two I've seen listed: Doxycycline. The other is for children and pregnant/nursing women.

The ginger might have helped some. Not sure, could just be distance from pill. My next one will be at 8 and I'll try having something with it rather than a while after. Just a piece of bread. This wrecks havoc with calorie counting since I feel like eating so little. Today I've had three servings of fruit and one veggie (barely.) I just didn't feel like eating when I could and now that I feel better, I'm back in the 'no eat' time (which lasts 3 - 5 hours depending on the food.)

I've had no milk and no vitamins today (forgot them when I should have taken them, now I can't until bedtime.) I'm starting to feel like I have swollen glands. Not sure if I'm fighting something and with the lack of vitamins it is winning, if it is the Lyme disease (flu is one of the symptoms) or if I'm overtired.

Got my kettle. Bought a box of cheetos to hand out on Halloween. I thought I might set up in the lobby since apparently the kids don't trick or treat around. I'll ask the super if I can put up some decorations.
