Looking at the map & knowing dh, he'll probably be well into SC by evening. Starting to research hotels.

I made the potato & leek soup. Smells wonderful, have no idea how it tastes. Cut back on the milk a bit and the butter by 1 tbsp. It wasn't hard but it wasn't easy either and I can't figure out how they think it only takes 55 minutes to make. I watched a whole move while I did it.

I'm ready for a nap now.

And no, the sermon isn't done, nor is the service.

Thank heavens for our archives here. The new owners just emailed to ask how many to expect tonight and I don't know where my box is with the answer. On the other hand, I did report the number to you folks so had an answer for her!

Pizza on the menu tonight tomorrow chili we are suppose to have rain. I am still working on finishing up laundry. Sheets are in washer twins now. Dgd will now be here after school that does not start until next week.

Watching news coverage about spaceship maiden voyage snafu ack!

I have been at my desk all day. Fielding phone calls, sending emails, working on something I'd delayed all year because I did not know how busy we'd be and needed that information first.... so I guess I'll have to call this a work day. Nothing done in house but laundry sorted and dishes done. Oh, I also put in an order for forms for our business and some for my DD's business. I try to remember to do this for her, or she'll forget and end up buying them...

Phone call from DD1, we finalized some Thanksgiving plans...I guess we will be at her house this year. About the holidays, I'm beginning to think the young ones are in better shape to do all this work...

Dee, sounds like DGD is doing better. Why are they going to Germany?

I guess I better get back to it...

I haven't really finished anything today... but goodness knows I need to.
My only accomplishments so far --
* phone call to dmom
* walked 1 mile w/dh
* called bank to make sure my check was deposited
* phone call w/dbil -- to arrange ballgame trip tomorrow
(Dbil seems to think we are leaving a little bit late, but dh says we should arrive AT LEAST 3 hours before kick-off, and that is plenty early enough even for HIM. Dbil is driving tomorrow. Hmmm. Well, at least it will save us some mileage on our SUV. Plus, it's going to be VERY cold tomorrow, AND dh is concerned about not having aisle seats. I'm not really looking forward to it, but it will be my last college football game of the season until the Bowl game. And I like to go to this campus -- Ole Miss. It's so very traditional. I wouldn't want to go to school there, though, it's probably a very class-conscious school. I have a feeling if you don't have $$$, you don't quite fit in. Google Ole Miss/The Grove or something like that, and you'll get an idea of what they call "tailgating" if you are blissfully ignorant of Southern football traditions.)

(It's a Board of Education program so I guess b/c I'm a former employee, they delegated this to me. There's no guarantee, but now dgs is on a "waiting list" for next fall.)

Dmom... * shaking my head * -- I called and she said "How do you always know exactly when I've started to eat?" So I said -- "Well, good, that will give me an excuse to not stay on the phone long." I told her I just wanted to make sure she got the message about the fruit and give her the floor installation man's phone number.
She then kept me on the phone probably an hour... telling me
-- she had also ordered fruit yesterday, before she got my message... that was okay... she'd see if someone at church wanted to buy one box from her, or she'd freeze it
-- she needed to call my cousins, tell them Thanksgiving would be at her "other" (my grandmother's old) house
-- about her need-to-do yardwork, and paperwork, and how she hates the time change
-- and a multitude of other things I can't think of now * sigh *

Yesterday, dh and I went for our ride in the forest, and it was sooo nice. Just so peaceful and calm... I can't tell y'all how much I needed that. Then last night, we went to see the movie John Wick. Hmmm... EXTREMELY bloody and gory. I think he killed everyone in the movie who had a speaking role, except for maybe half a dozen characters.

FelineFriend -- I DID watch that last episode of The Affair, and I am just as confused as you! How on earth did she hurt her leg??? That totally amazed me. I thought she was stealing drugs, too, b/c she's obviously (well, it seems to me, anyway that she is) dealing with depression over the loss of her son... and then she had that big cut on her leg. So strange. I definitely think it is her husband who was killed, but I'm at a loss now as to how it happened, too. And like you, where did that second child (that she mentioned in the police office) come from?
For those of you who are not watching this -- I have to give a disclaimer -- it IS a pretty racy show... I mean, it's on Showtime, after all... but aside from the language and immorality... the MYSTERY of it is VERY intriguing. It is not a show I'd want to watch with my mother or my son, you know, really... but it IS fascinating.

I really need to s2s and get going... need to go to the bank.
We're staying in tonight, not going to our last high school football game -- partly b/c it's so cold -- and the game is about 30-45 minutes away, anyway. We'll listen to it on the radio, and if we have half a dozen trick-or-treaters, it will be a surprise to me.

We were sorta naughty last night, staying up super late, watching Jimmy Kimmel. DH turned on Jimmy Fallon to see their entertainment at the end of the show, too. I slept great b/c I walked an hour, was busy all day, got in plenty of pedometer steps. Woke naturally at 9:10 a.m., it was so nice to wake up rested, and ready for the day. We did our s2s, DH had coffee, but I didn't, as we were heading out to The Dollar Tree and a grocery store for a few things. (They fit in 1 bag.)

I bought 5 good books at The Dollar Tree, 2 boxes of 8-count Mead envelopes, in the 3 5/8" x 6.5" size, for letter-size paper. I bought 1 letter lined tablet at The $ Tree, Made in America (which is important to me, too), and there are 100 sheets. At the grocery store, I picked up a 200-sheets count lined writing tablet, too. So many pals use this size for pen palling. It's fun to decorate the pages with stickers, to add some zip! It's also made in the USA. I'll list the book titles and authors at the thread where we log our reading and media, too.

I got extremely tired, after we got home, I changed clothes and had lunch. I'm having my International coffee now. I've "spiked" it with Folgers, to get more wake-up effects. I wrote a Halloween paper letter to my new pen pal this morning, before we left, mailing it on our way. It had orange pumpkins on the borders with that candy corn candy, too. Very festive. She'd written on Halloween paper, too.

I'm rambling because I'm still tired. We walked 30 minutes, total, from both places today. I don't think it's being "honest" to count time standing in line waiting, while you're not walking. So I don't count that. Also, I used to cheat! I used to march my feet, while riding in the car, or in the restroom, to get in extra steps! That's "cheating" in my opinion- NOW- in my elder years, so I'm being true blue, I'm not doing that anymore, because why cheat like that? It only hurts yourself. So I only log what I actually do and if it's light housework and not vigorous or moderate, I log it honestly, as to what I did. I feel better about myself being more honest like this, so feel like I'm truly earning my activity points.

It was a bit showery, but then it stopped. It's supposed to be dry and cloudy for trick or treaters. We have a bowl of wrapped hard candies from Costco, in the entry hall, but we never have any kids coming anymore, since our neighbors' kids grew up, and then moved away. Eventually, IF Dson/Ddil move down here, we'll be so blessed to see the kids in their costumes. What a treat that will be- if they move nearer.

Have a wonderful Finishing Friday! I finished my last Dneighbor-friend pair of potholders this a.m. I have all friends taken care of now and it's on to crochet 13 more pairs of butterflies' wings and bodies for DGD's afghan. It's such a difficult job, because this summer, when I did 1 row, I found something out. The bodies need to be carefully sewed onto the Granny squares. On top of those, I sew on the butterflies wings. I accidentally found out how the wings flip-flop all over, looked like morphed wings and not "butterfly-ie". I have to tack down the wings, so they're flat, secure, and it's very time-consuming. It's such a pretty look though, when it's completed. I only have 1 row of 5 Grannies joined, but it's so wonderful to "imagine" what the entire afghan will look like, once done. She turns 2 in Jan. 2015, so this afghan will be special. I'd love to make her a dolly blanket in the same pattern, using 1 large Granny with a butterfly or two, to match hers. She adores her dolly! She gives her bites of cookies before she takes a bite, she lets dolly sip on the bottle or sippy cup first, too. Isn't that simply adorable? I ♥ having a grand-she and Harriet , YOU WILL, TOO!

LucyLee , "The Affair," is a show I'd be way too embarrassed to watch with my teenaged grandsons! The only person in the family who I'd watch it with is DH OR DD! I cannot figure out how she cut her thigh, Allison. I cannot recall the name of the male writer, she's got the hots for. Wouldn't you describe it as a modern day Peyton Place set on the CT beach somewhere? Oh, my goodness. But the writing is awesome, totally original, and done very well. I love the cast, too. They're so good. Talented. I believe their parts they play. It's like real life, they're that good. It's my fav show right now.

Harmony , You sound so productive today (and EVERY DAY!) and it's super you're helping your DD, too, by ordering for her, too. Nice Mom!

Kathryn , Our Nana made potato leak soup, too. They grew their own potatoes and leak in their garden.

Hello...the sun has been shining here all day, but as I glanced out the window just now it is becoming a little breezy.

I got the routine done early, but still have to put fresh sheets on the bed. Spent some time here at my desk balancing checkbook, went through a stack of mail - filed some and threw most away. Also cleaned out e-mail and deleted almost 300 so it's less than 1 short page. Some things I need to unsubscribe so I won't get them anymore...maybe...hopefully! That leaves just a few to open and read. We got out the card table and tablecloth to put halloween candy out, opened bags and put candy into bowls, so we're all ready for trick or treat. We can get up to 200 here, all ages.

Dee, thanks for prayers and good thoughts for a holiday visit with ds and family. The potato soup sounds good. Hoping your dh has a good trip to FL.

BookSaver, I like to read the old ads. I have a city newspaper dated the day I was born and it sure is interesting to see some of those ads and articles which was also from WW2.

LadyM, happy for you that your new washer and dryer are finally delivered. Hope they are working to your expectations!

I think we'll be eating a little early so we can be ready for the little spooky ones on their trail for goodies. We'll set up the table in the driveway and sit out there; that way the ddogs don't bark each time the doorbell rings! I need to change out of shorts to my jeans and pull out a heavy sweater for when the sun sets. It's only 73* here now.

Need to write a little list, to organize my thoughts for things "to do" today, which didn't make it onto the list last night.

DH started the DW, so when it's done, I'll start the LOL. Want to put fresh sheets on the bed,too.

He'll get the mail in a little bit. He's watching a light romantic Halloween romance on the Hallmark Channel right now. Yes! My DH is!

Dinner is over. We'll head downstairs shortly and set up.

Had a call over dinner from a different minister friend wanting our new address. She'll be on sabbatical next summer and may come to visit.

I've started in on updating Quicken. So I've made a little bit of progress.

FF, I don't even remember Peyton Place really, but I remember it being on, and that it was somewhat scandalous for its time, too, right? So yes -- I think The Affair would be definitely in that category. It is believable, I agree, and I like the way each POV is different. Noah -- that's the man's name, I think -- and Allison remember everything in a similar way, but there are always little differences in the way he puts it and the way she puts it. Which is probably exactly how any two people would relay any event, so that makes it "believable" too.

DH wants to go to the bank with me and we'll get our supper then. By the time we get home, we'll probably have missed the treaters for the night, LOL, but we'll put the (ceramic) pumpkin out and turn on the lights. I have the candy in a basket. We're not all gung-ho about it, but we're prepared, LOL.

Once when I was driving ds and two of his friends to an early morning basketball practice, ds and first friend were talking about second friend (on the way to his house). DS said "D___ is probably still asleep..." First friend said, "Don't worry about that. Coach _____ will wake him up. He'll wake him up faster than Folger's coffee."

I'm anxious to see pics of dgs trick-or-treating with his other grandma and grandpa. DDIL is one of those people (like my dbro) who just LOVES, LOVES, LOVES Halloween. She was so excited about getting to celebrate w/dgs in her hometown.

(As you can tell from my decorations, noted above, I can take it or leave it. I love the candy, but otherwise, I am just not that into the holiday.)

Oh -- Nancy -- you asked about trunk-or-treat. Lots of our churches do that around here. We did last year, and in previous years, but last year it rained and we had to move indoors, so this year they just planned to set up indoors to begin with. I think it was last night, however, or maybe Wednesday -- b/c of high school football tonight, I guess. Another church in town had a HUGE Fall Festival last night (complete w/a hot air ballon!) and dmom's church is having theirs tomorrow morning.
