I need fortitude to get through this day, tomorrow and Monday. Then it should be back to the normal chaos around here.

DH is out picking up new hoses and water pump. He can't afford for his truck to be down for even a day. Monday he'll need it. So we'll likely spend hours out there fixing. with his arms, etc. he isn't able to do it himself. I'll be out there too.

I need to go pick up stuff to make 2 trays of sandwiches for the memorial luncheon tomorrow. I've managed to clean up my desk of yesterday's piles and the mail which came this morning. I'm still in pj's, guess I should dress and get ready to help outside.

It's a beautiful blue sky day here. At least I don't have to fight snow and ice and freezing rain while I'm doing all this work!

Husbands DO bear watching, Emptynester. Vigilance required to keep one's tools, that's for sure. I bought some floral-handled ones. Dstepson and ds won't touch them, but HRH still carries them off. I suppose after a certain age a man doesn't care what's painted on handles any more.

HRH groans when he hears "time to make the doughnuts", since for many years that was the constant refrain when others found out his places of employment. If you remember, the poor fellow in the commercial met himself coming and going, always in the dark. HRH's coworkers would say, "they got that right". But of course they were less charitable about the ad's cake product, as opposed to traditional yeast doughnuts.

This child I'm attempting to rear had a noon postmark deadline today for an art contest and the paint was still wet at 10:30. So it took pluck and drive to nag, and then fortitude and endurance to refrain from .... .... fill in the blank.

The constant mantra of parents: "This was not MY project!"

While nagging, the phone rang and it was the oldest. The one I'm finished rearing for sure, right? She hopes I will take her money and buy gifts for her little cousins with it, wrap, transport. This on top of my own gifts for them. Hard to criticize her - she was at that moment trying to fit the fourth child for a carseat, with 3 others tagging along. Can't give the third one's carseat to the fourth or he'll be illegal, and second is still not big enough to do without, but the fourth is growing so fast he will have outgrown his current one soon. She'll call me back when she stops to nurse. So... ... I guess she gets some special consideration.

Current child-in-the-doghouse now says she tollldd me, motherrrrr that she had invited a friend for this afternoon. AAAaauuurrrgghhh! Well, when did she invite the maid? 'cause none have shown up!

Last night while talking to dd2, I volunteered to watch the 2 girls so that she can Christmas shop. She called at 9:19 and had just gotten up. She needed to pick up a cappuccino and breakfast from MD's for the girls. I told her I would come watch them. At 11 she is still dinking around doing nothing. I told her I was going home and to call when she is ready to leave. I came home and had lunch. No telling when she will be ready. Luckily I do have all day but I hate to start anything around here and have to stop. I swear, I spend a lot of time waiting on her. Just drives me crazy.

I am taking my paperwork and checkbook to work on while I am over there. The little girls will either be watching movies or playing Barbies. I'm also taking stationery so that I can work on letters to go in my Christmas cards.

About the Christmas shopping, I reminded her that next weekend is the Nutcracker plus grandma will be here. The next weekend is a few days before Christmas and almost too late to order what she can't find here. So she needs to get out today and buy as much as she can find, so she can then order what she doesn't find. Put that way, she realized she is getting low on time. I figured out how much I have left to spend on each of her kids. I'm giving her the list and told her to buy whatever she wants that fits in with what I have left to spend. At this point, I would rather babysit than shop on a busy weekend.

So we are now at 1 hour and counting.

Dh doesn't haul off my designated tools but he takes my heavy duty extension cords. The one he took last week has not reappeared. I wish I could find a pink or purple one, he might leave one of those alone.

bracket to hold up pressure fit rod (the cold/heat from window/radiator means it doesn't fit now that we are in the heating season),
suction cups (will need more next year)
and extension cords.

I've s2s. Have zapped my lunch. Got the nerve to weigh myself. I seem to be holding steady which is good news. Still 45 pounds overweight but not 52 pounds over weight so that's something.

Oh my gosh d Harriet I still think you should write a book on motherhood, family life, and marriage. Years ago I had read a book by a woman who had 10 children - she was so funny (not the har har type but clever, witty, and a wonderful humor in her writing which reminds me of you). I know I would buy it.

Currently my nice newish green extension cord, just the right size, that I use for Christmas decorations is missing, probably in the shop or in some truck. I am always replacing kitchen stuff, flour sifter (used for sifting powdered concrete dye) and at least 6 funnels (used for garden chemicals, oil, etc). It wouldn't do me any good to have pink handled tools, they'd disappear too. I once had a tiny tool box I used to hide in the house with my garden clippers and tools for lawnmower. I wonder what happened to that box???

Anyway, the pump is in. One bolt got stripped and used for another and that particular spot keeps everything from leaking. So DH is out a 3rd time - or 4th - getting those 2 bolts. We got done about 3:15.

I am waiting for him to get back, then we'll run it again and look for leaks, with fingers crossed. Then I'll get cleaned up and go out to stores to get the stuff for those dratted sandwiches. I swept the front porch between times of helping, I soaked a vegetable bin from the refrigerator. Yuck I need a shower.

Hello, everyone!
We were out yesterday to college town (basketball game). I had the weirdest thing happen. Just as I got in the car, I realized my hands were sticky. Tacky-sticky, like I had spilled super glue on them, but it wouldn't dry. I used some kind of wipe on them, but it was NOT the right kind of wipe, and it just made everything worse. So we stopped at dmil's office and I tried to rinse them off (no soap) and that seemed to help, but it didn't. Bought baby wipes when we stopped to fill up car, and that pretty much got rid of it, but not entirely. Washed with soap several times as the day went on, finally the stickiness was gone.
Then last night, when we got home, realized my hands are ITCHING -- for the first time since I saw the dermatologist. And today, they are itching worse. Dermatologist's cream/benadryl spray is not touching it. * sheesh *
I have no idea what I touched that was sticky, btw. Maybe hair gel? But they seemed fine when I left the bathroom, after putting on jewelry/etc (after doing my hair).

Add to THAT aggravation the fact that my stomach is REALLY bothering me w/this constant running to the bathroom. Finally took some immodium last night, and that helped, but I'm feeling really yucky in general.

I need to s2s and go to cvs. I guess that will be my Saturday something.

My dsis called and talked for ages.

I managed to get my walk on the treadmill done before and after her call. Piled the paperwork more efficiently during the call so the apartment looks a bit better.

I'm just finishing updating Quicken and then I change for the party.

I'm invited my sister to come visit next week. She can't come until Thursday and things are busy but she'll just come along or spend time alone here. She needs a change of scenery and to know that she won't be all alone in her old age.
