Cleared bulb plants growing in a corner, binned those. Green bin out today.
Its good to hear of winter experience there LadyM and Nancy. I'm glad you both take care when out.

Re: The backyard - productive or otherwise - 2022
Yesterday I spent time in the garden when the sun came out. I continued with the endless mixing of compost with the soil. I do enjoy this mindless task and seeing progress being made. I also moved about a half dozen blocks to a half moon raised bed that is in the process of being created. I'm not sure what design I want so I add blocks then walk around it looking from various angles. Repeat repeat.

Yesterday I spent time in the backyard shoveling to get to the small potting shed needed a bucket to haul hot water to thaw ice off an outside faucet.
Today I took snow out of the birdbath. Took hot water out and scrubbed it out, and rinsed it out.

I sound like a broken record.....same-oh same-oh happening in the garden day after day. Since it is winter here, there is almost no time needed to take care of the plants. All my time in the garden is being devoted to compost & blocks.
More compost ingredients mixed in raised bed #4. This is done with a shovel using only my arms (no feet used). It is a good back & arms exercise.
More blocks moved, viewed, moved, viewed, and finally accepted their location. It is taking forever to create this raised bed because I keep changing my mind on the design which means every single block has been moved a half dozen times. On the positive side.....this is a good back, arm, and leg exercise.

Changing mine up a bit front yard snow shoveling!
Got a trail around the whole house now, cleared snow by the gutter spouts.
I have the big of snowbank I backed in to scrapped off and moved back a bit.
Got the crumbs from the snow plow out of the driveway.
Thinking of making a snow man but might wait to see if dgd shows up and she can help.

Re: The backyard - productive or otherwise - 2022
Yesterday I pulled a few tree seedlings from my driveway.
I'm using LadyM's - one a day is the goal, extras are wonderful, method.
ExCyclone Seth had brought us bands of downpours since about midnight.
I have my gardening long pants on, and boots, hopeful to get out pulling some of the unwanted from along a fence when weather permits. That could be in lieu of taking a walk. 20 min the aim. It might need to be intermittant.
Nancy - You have so many winter outdoor tasks to keep your household functioning smoothly and not be snowed in, or snowed under later.
LadyM - I hassard to say your legs are involved as you do those stationary jobs mixing compost and placing blocks. Don't downplay the effort your whole body makes.
I have a chance now at some weeding. Some could be done if not the 20min. pooof
Did 10 min - up to the palm tree. Lots of baby palms pulled up there. Wisdom would sweep up the seed pods.
The good news is the bulb plants that grow so out of control have mostly displaced 'bladey grass' in that part at least. It has runners, sharp edges and digs itself in more than the bulbs.
The bulb plants are more easy to pull out with the bulb.
Misty rain out.
I'll try for more, or a walk, later.

Re: The backyard - productive or otherwise - 2022
Finally got back to some weeding yesterday. Cleared a patch and today threw some grass seed heads on tp of the bare patch,
I had been pulling odd tree seedlings as I saw them in between.
Today pulled doc as much as I could that is seeding. Sometimes I get lucky and it doesn't grow back.
If I could do 20' in the garden each day I think that would do me and the garden good.

Re: The backyard - productive or otherwise - 2022
I walked around the back yard and saw the one area I thought had snow was melted. Half of it still has snow. I am SO glad I did the path when I was out shoveling before it is melted and the dog and I both use it. I saw that I needed to pick up after the dog so I did that at least where there was no snow.
My snow drop plants are not up yet.

This afternoon I picked up fallen old wood. binned some. tossed others back under the trees.
Mosquitos started eating me so I left the under tree area.
Pulled some more seeding weeds. cobbler peg and doc mostly. And a clump not grass from the grass.

Re: The backyard - productive or otherwise - 2022
Yesterday - found a board to sit on and set to weeding. strength training for my arm to pick myself up while I dragged the board to the next bit, as well as the digging roots and pulling vine. 2 tubs full. The weather has had certain weed vines go wild in a take over bid. On the way back from the bin made a start pulling the flowering bits off weeds on the way.
Mowing is needed, not that that stops the vines.
Mowing is like trimming a hedge.
