I napped and then puttered in the afternoon.
We went to DC's birthday dinner at a restaurant for 5:30. It was at least 90 minutes before we were served our food, partly because people didn't arrive on time and 2 didn't show up at all.
The food was disappointing as well. I went with a brisket sandwich. I thought brisket was beef cooked for a long time in liquid and thus very tender. I also expected it to be shredded. It was two 3/4" pieces of tough meat on a bun. The included sweet pickles weren't there, nor the bacon and cheese I ordered to be added. I eventually realized I could not bite it with my teeth so opened up the sandwich and used a knife to cut up the meat into smaller pieces. I could barely cut it with a knife. The onion rings sucked too.
So much for my $30+ meal.
It was lovely to spend time visiting with much of dgs' and DC's extended family.
DC's mom and dad were there, along with her mom's parents, her aunt, her 2 cousins who are being raised by her mom's parents, her two half-brothers, her half sister, her godmother, her step-mother, her step-mother's parents, her step-aunt and fiance, and ds, dh and I.
It reminded me of the scene from You've Got Mail, "We are an American Family."

I was interested that her step-mother's parents were there, then realized they are the same relationship to her as we are. And while I've met her Dad a couple of times, I finally had a chance to meet his two children by her step-mom for the first time. Dgs spends a lot of time over there (ds and DC's dad get along really well and hang out together a fair bit) and he adores both DC's half sister who is roughly a year older than him and her half brother who is just over a year younger. And he played well with his two cousins who are 4 and 7. So he had a very good time with "all his people."
Dh managed through the long evening but was exhausted and shook all the way home in the car. Thankfully it was only an 8 minute drive.
He's going to try to sleep in the waterbed tonight. He demonstrated he can get up off it safely.
I will get ready for bed now before the computer wakes me up too much.
My Amazon order of masks arrived just before we left. I opened them up when I got home and sure enough the company sent the wrong masks once more. I'm returning them but this time I reported the listing because this is the second time, 8 weeks apart, that I've been shipped the wrong product. The company is deliberately being misleading. To be fair, these masks are theoretically more expensive, but they are also coated with plastic so they can be used in the operating theater and impervious to bodily liquids. I'm worried that will change the way the mask breathes. So I'm passing on them.
Dee: that pulse oximeter was on the recommended list as well. Also not easily available in Canada. I have found one on the list, but it is 2x what the US price is. I could just do a border run and pick one up from Walmart or Walgreens. Instead, I'll probably just wait unless the hospital starts asking for his 02 stats.
