Quiet day in the village and quiet day for me too.

It was the area garage sale day so I was out for a 2 mile walk and bought tons of stuff. The first item bought from the 3rd place we stopped, was an 18" long toy plane so dh walked home with that and came back with a good sized cloth bag since the plane didn't fit in the backpack I had brought!

I got lots of planes and helicopters, a nice blazer for me (since all my old favourites are in the back of the car to be given away since they are too small), and some kid's complete set of Hot Wheel track and accessories (plus 2 Hot Wheels.)

At the last stop (which had been our first and still had something that dh wanted for 25 cents) we waited for neighbours below us to catch up and walked the rest of the way home with them. Then they invited us over for a visit. And we had a wonderful time.

Dh and I had a very late lunch and then I spent the afternoon shopping for and buying some of the things she had in her apartment. It is so handy when the apartments have the same windows etc.

Then we had a light dinner, and watched the last of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series.

Tonight I bought a camping cot bunk bed set to use for the grands. It means the spare room can be set up with that and I can keep my queen size guest bed. I bought the adult version so we have it in case of evacuation (top of mind lately with all the fires in NS, 10K out of their homes, plus the emergency preparedness seminar I did.)

So now I have a tent AND cots if I decide to start camping once again (on my own, no-way dh would do it!) The tent attaches to the car so I'd sleep in the hatchback of the car and the grands can sleep in the tent.

The cots are heavy (~32 pounds each) but I can carry the 34lb car seat so I know I can lift that.

The apartment is trashed from the grands yesterday and my inattention today but I think I really needed a rest after the extreme heat and babysitting duties. Today the apartment was a perfect temperature all day due to all the breezes coming through.

Was called away almost immediately after posting this morning, to go with HRH to visit dfil Joe's widow in hospital. Long trip, then verrrrry long walk through and around and up and down that old/new hospital, built in many stages over the years and quite a "follow the yellow brick road" winding trek.

Definitely used my conversational skill set there, as HRH wanted to stay a bit long, I thought, for a visit to someone not feeling well. He got the impression she was lonely and bored, and he does know her better than I do, so maybe we did right. He had printed out puzzles for her online before we went, knowing her enjoyment of those.

On the long way back, he was especially hungry (I had brought a banana for a snack but he had nothing), so we stopped to pick up lunch.

Back home, dd23 and the young man bopped in to cook Italian together. I think they enjoy coming here to do some cooking with each other and hang out. They made with meat, and a second batch without, bow tie pasta quite pretty. He had to rush away when a big thunderstorm came up completely by surprise, but we'd enjoyed him up until then and dd stayed.

Helped dd do an at-home Vitamin D status test. That was a slice of life. I was thinking in terms of like pricking finger and it is, but lots more blood needed, it seems.

Otherwise about skill set, the topic is just something I've been thinking about lately, determining to remember the various skills I've honed in my life and keeping up with them. For instance, something as ordinary as making the Dailies into the quickest work I can for morning, afternoon, evening. Or more adventurous or more unusual pursuits. Reading different things, practicing better debate skills, learning about types of exercise, gardening, stitchery.
